A Flint Township man has filed a lawsuit on claims he had to spend Christmas in jail when he was stopped by police while legally openly carrying his pistol.
Flint Township police argue the man's gun was concealed when he was stopped and the officer was within his rights to detain the man.
John Pierce, an attorney and advocate with Virginia-based OpenCarry.org, questioned the validity of the arrest, saying that it appears McMorris was arrested after the officer failed to notice that McMorris may have been engaged in legally open carrying of the firearm when the officer passed him the first time.

The Georgia legislature passed what many are calling the most sweeping pro-gun bill in America. The so-called "guns everywhere" bill, HB 60, is likely to be enacted once presented to Gov. Nathan Deal to sign.
The New York Times reports that the new law would make it easier for permit holders to carry their weapons in places like churches, bars, restaurants, and airports. |

The shootings prompted Greenwald to work on legislation that would limit the capacity of ammunition magazines. He is a primary sponsor of a bill seeking to curb that number from 15 to 10.
The bill (A-2006) passed the Assembly 46-31 last week. The legislation previously passed the Assembly in February 2013, but stalled after it wasn’t brought up for a vote by state Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney. |

“Purely a political gun-grab.”
That’s Sturm, Ruger & Company CEO Mike Fifer describing microstamping.
“It’s not a vital tool for crime fighting, it’s a vital tool for gun control.” Both Ruger and Smith & Wesson have stopped selling semi-automatic handguns in California as a result of the new law, and other gun manufacturers are likely to follow suit.

Odds are these recent student expression decisions won’t end the confusion, and in fact, might lead to even more litigation. New cases pitting students against school administrators pop up each week. A high school student in New York received a suspension this month for wearing a shirt that depicted the emblem of the National Rifle Association, an organization to which the outdoorsman student belongs. Second Amendment supporters will be happy to pick up the legal tab for this student.
Legal expenses are a major problem in these cases. Many families don’t have the resources to protect their students. School districts spend thousands of dollars that could be better used to support education. |

Gun ownership is a constitutional right -- and also a potent threat to public health. If public research about firearms has been "anti-gun," it's probably because reality itself is anti-gun. And as the controversy over Dr. Vivek Murthy shows, the NRA will choose guns over reality every time.
Reality: Guns are not a benign tool. When used as designed, they injure and kill. That is their only purpose. Period. In that sense, guns are little different from rat poison, though rat poison is usually sold with a warning attached. |

This November, Washington voters will have a choice between two, strongly opposed pieces of gun legislation. Initiative 594 would institute universal background checks for all gun purchases for all cases except transfer between family members, while Initiative 591 would eliminate Washington’s ability to pass and enforce gun control laws that do not originate with the federal government. As Seattle police have had to address increases in gun violence over the past several years, the contentious issue of gun control hits close to home for many of our neighbors. |

As a result, Second Amendment groups have endorsed several of Graham's primary opponents. "I’m flat-out fed up with Lindsey Graham’s betrayals," National Association for Gun Rights Executive Director Dudley Brown told The State on February 26. "That’s a major reason why the National Association for Gun Rights PAC just sent [Graham challenger] Lee Bright a fat check. We’ve also sent checks in smaller amounts to two other challengers.... But there’s no denying Senator Lee Bright has gone a step further and deserves special recognition." |

The would-be developer of a Frederick gun training center shot for the sky Thursday night, promising to pay for extensive utility and road improvements and even a hotel if his proposal gets the go-ahead.
"We are talking about a massive multi-million dollar investment," said Ron Abramson, managing partner of the Second Amendment Firearms Experience.
SAFE wants to build a firearms training center for law officers southeast of town, at a site north of Colorado Highway 52 and east of Weld County Road 17. No memberships would be sold, but classes would be available for civilians who passed a background check. |

In short, the bill would broaden the locations that lawful concealed carry is permitted. Acceptable locations would be expanded to include churches, schools (Adam Lanza would not only be unwelcome – he’d probably be shot), airports (federal restrictions would still apply), bars (no drinking while carrying, “duh”), and some government offices. The Left has dubbed the bill as the “guns everywhere” bill… Which I really don’t see as a pejorative. In fact, I’m kinda jealous that people in Georgia will have the protected right to defend their life anywhere they go. I’m currently at the mercy of California implants calling themselves “Denver residents” (ugh). |

With the election of the new Speaker of the House, Nicholas Mattiello, gun enthusiasts can rest easy.
Not only does Mattiello carry an A+ ranking from the National Rifle Association but the two Representatives that he has selected to head the House Judiciary Committee are likely to kill any anti-gun legislation on arrival.
Mattiello has appointed Representative Cale Keable, a lawyer from Burrillville to chair the House Judiciary Committee and in a bipartisan move he appointed Representative Doreen Costa, a Republican representing Exeter and North Kingstown, to be the vice chair. |

The state Senate Thursday passed legislation establishing a way for those who had been treated for mental health issues, and have recovered, to legally purchase or regain their firearms.
The bill now moves to the House.
Senate Bill 244 originally would have required those with court-determined mental illness to be added to the federal list of people prohibited from purchasing guns.
But after an outcry at a January public hearing by advocates for the disabled and gun rights groups, the bill was changed to set up a procedure for having a person's mental health records removed from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. |

Knives are arms protected by the second amendment. In 1958 the U.S. government banned the interstate sale of switchblade knives. It was a stupid law that accomplished nothing but to inconvenience law abiding people while setting another in a long line of incremental precedents toward unlimited federal power. In 1958, the federal government still recognized that the commerce clause in the constitution did not grant it unlimited power, so the ban was only on interstate commerce, not on manufacture or possession. Not surprisingly, its major proponent was a New York representative from New York City. |

Then there’s state Sen. Leland Yee of San Francisco. He used to go on Piers Morgan’s now-canceled CNN moonbat-fest and denounce the Second Amendment. He sent out tweets on the first anniversary of the Newtown massacre saying, “I’m still shocked & prepared to take steps to stop gun violence.”
Well, up to a point …
He, too, was arrested on Wednesday, for allegedly arranging deals to procure M16s and rocket launchers to be smuggled into California after being purchased from Muslim terrorists in the Philippines. Sen. Yee was working with a Chinese gangster named “Shrimp Boy.” |

About a year ago, 11 weeks after the Newtown massacre, a 7-year-old Maryland boy named Josh Welch was suspended from school for biting a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun. The story quickly became a minor sensation—generating coverage from outlets as varied as Fox and The Huffington Post—and several more followed in its wake. A 5-year-old Massachusetts boy got in trouble for building a gun out of Legos. Another child was suspended for making a shooting gesture with his finger. A third, a little girl in Pennsylvania, was sent home for bringing a bubble gun to school and accused of making a “terroristic threat.” |
