... "... The line between freedom of political expression and sedition and conspiracy must always be adjudicated with an eye toward protecting rights, and if speech—no matter if disturbing, offensive or hateful does not cross it—the government must not be allowed to punish those engaging in it. Still, the parallels between this case and recent statements by the New Black Panthers about Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman should be noted: Is offering a reward to their followers to find and kidnap a man who has not been criminally charged protected free speech, or a violation of Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241, 'Conspiracy against Rights'?" ... |

"There’s an event coming up in April called the Silencers are Legal Shoot which is shaping up to be a gigantic gathering of suppressed shooting in the Dallas area. Most of the big names have signed on as sponsors including Silencerco, Advanced Armament, Surefire, Osprey, YHM, Gemtech and more. Attendees are welcome to bring their own guns to have some fun (and ammo vendors will be onsite to help you feed the beast), but be aware that you won’t be allowed to fire unless you have a can. Needless to say I’ll be in attendance (so drop me a line if you want to grab a beer). The only question at this point is whether my silencer will be ready in time. Make the jump for more info…" ... |

"MD Arms has patented an interesting magazine for the Saiga 12. "The patent illustrates the designs for a double-stack shotgun shell magazine, something that's generally believed to be impossible to make work. This magazine has a few tricks up its sleeve, though. The Firearm Blog found the patent application at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)."
"The problem with double-stack magazines for shotgun shells is the same as the problem with any rimmed cartridges. The rim at the rear of the case head sticks out farther than the body of the shell, and if the rim of the top shell is behind the rim of the shell below it, it can't be stripped forward out of the magazine, it is caught on the next shell. Rimlock." ... |

"How an American state could ever pass a law that legalized murder is a question we never thought we’d have to consider. But that, or something like it, has happened in Florida. A teenager is dead and the man who admits to pursuing and then shooting him remains at liberty, protected by the law. That law may have been misinterpreted—willfully or not—but the fact is that Trayvon Martin is dead and George Zimmerman is free." ... |

The public’s appetite for firearms of all kinds seems to be virtually insatiable so Majewski decided to open the eponymously named Woodbridge Firearm Trading Post in, strangely enough, Woodbridge, Connecticut. "When the wishes of the business and education communities clash with the expansion of gun rights, the business/education side just doesn't stand a chance. A bill now in the Tennessee Senate and steamrolling toward passage would allow gun owners to bring their firearms to work and leave them in their parked vehicles, even if the business owners have a policy against that."

"Amid rhetoric about 'legalized vigilantism,' national media rush to indict both George Zimmerman and Florida’s 'Stand Your Ground' (SYG) law. But even as editorialists call for curtailing such laws, Zimmerman’s own lawyer admits SYG probably doesn’t apply. In 2007, I wrote North Carolina’s first 'Castle Doctrine' bill (our version of SYG), shepherding it though countless iterations of eight different bills. Far from 'sloppily written,' as one editorial alleged, our law, effective December 1st, was vetted by legislators, legislative counsel and legal experts . . ." ... |

... "With all due respect to Mr. Martin, if it is truly justice he seeks, he should understand that justice is a double-edged sword. Florida authorities are bound by legal guidelines and investigative procedures, and they will consider all evidence directly related to the case, not just the facts as Mr. Martin may want to see them presented."
"If Trayvon Martin attacked Zimmerman as he claims, that’s a critical aspect of this case. If he was brutally beating Zimmerman and pounding his head against the cement, then it is just possible Zimmerman was in genuine fear of grave bodily harm or death, and therefore defended himself with ample force to stop the attack." ... |

"President Obama, Jesse Jackson, and others have chosen to personalize the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., highlighting the racial issues by expressing concern for people who look like they do or live where 'blacks are under attack.' Many conservatives and liberals have also already concluded that the shooter committed a crime. All of these reactions are premature." ... |

... "According to a CNN poll released on Monday, 73 percent of those questioned believe George Zimmerman, Mr. Martin's shooter, should be arrested. Construing this as moral authority, Democrats have rushed to motivate an element of their base, African-Americans, and advance one of their causes, gun control. When President Obama said, 'If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon,' he both inserted himself into a local police matter ... and identified himself with the Old Guard Trifecta of racial agitators: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan. When you add this to ... his Justice Department’s racial priorities and his allusions to racist elements in his critics, a pattern develops in moderate voters' minds." ... |

"If you were handed a can of bug spray, you might start killing a lot of insects around the house. And if you had reason to believe that the bugs were poisonous ... you might even become convinced that the little piece of lint under your bed was a nasty spider, curled up just waiting to bite you. Americans tend to overestimate both their risk of exposure to violent crime and their ability to judge dangerous situations with reasonable care. Unfortunately, these misperceptions are killing people, not insects."
