The Secret Service is quashing any move to allow guns at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Some 45,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the Quicken Loans Arena, site of the convention, revoke its ban on the open carrying of fire arms. “This is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk,” the petition states. |

Friday Governor Butch Otter signed a bill that thankfully strengthened the Second Amendment in Idaho. Finally, all branches of state government recognized that Idaho Citizens have a right to protect themselves by concealing their weapons. Who made this happen? Was it the legislature? The NRA? Or was it the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance? The answer is obvious to me. As the endless parade of accolades resonates throughout the airwaves and social media, the credit for championing this bill and getting it passed goes to Greg Pruett and Seth Rosquist. These two young men only wanted to protect their families by exercising their second amendment rights.

Is it a joke? Or an effort to spark a serious debate about guns and public safety? An online petition to lift the ban on guns at the upcoming Republican National Convention certainly has people talking. Not gonna happen, says the Secret Service, and they’re in charge. But the petition calling for it has drawn close to 50,000 signatures, and re-ignited an old controversy: should public places like schools, movie theaters and convention halls be gun-free zones? |

Advances in 3-D printing technology make it easy for parties to access computer-assisted design files (CAD files) for guns online and to print tangible usable weapons based on those designs. United States export control laws have been applied to such 3-D printing of guns, and current litigation initiated by the organization, Defense Distributed, tests the scope of export control reach into 3-D printing. |

An online petition calling for the Republican National Convention attendees to be allowed to bring firearms into the event site has garnered nearly 42 thousand signatures as of Monday morning. “Though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue—the Quicken Loans Arena—strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises,” the petition, created on Change.org, reads. “This is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk.” |

At the dilapidated morgue in the northern Brazilian city of Natal, Director Marcos Brandao walks over the blood-smeared floor to where the corpses are kept. The South Umpqua School District has a new strategy for lockdown procedures and staff members are now practicing the drills. Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate: The training is called ALICE. South Umpqua High School teacher Laurie Collings says it's "a different way to lock down. It's not a passive lockdown, it's more of a I wouldn't say aggressive, but, definitely a safer way to lock down."
