Under HB320 if your local police chief decides you were "careless" the penalty increases. The only way you'd be safe from prosecution would be to store your guns in a locked compartment away from the ammo, or unloaded with a trigger lock engaged. Macomb County, MI, stopped accepting applications for NEW concealed weapon permits as of March 1. In July, a new state law takes effect that will alter the application process.

"This is not a roadblock, and we hope there's no public outcry. We just don't want people to have to go through one entire procedure only to be told they're going to have to reapply." said Bill Harding, chief of operation for the county prosecutor's office.
