... "With foreign imports growing to accommodate the already stretched supply of ammunition that has domestic manufacturers running operations around the clock, such a move would not only send an easy and immediate signal that would meet with 'progressive' political and media approval, it would also continue with a long-established tactic of the 'gun control' movement: punishing peaceable gun owners for something they are not responsible for." ...

"This past weekend, the Tennessee Law Review held a symposium on 'New Frontiers in the Second Amendment.' It was a follow-up, of sorts, to a symposium held almost 20 years ago, and boy, has a lot changed since then."

"In 1995, Second Amendment scholarship had been almost entirely nonexistent for decades, and what little there was (mostly written by lobbyists for gun-control groups) treated the matter as open-and-shut: The Second Amendment, we were told, protected only the right of state militias (or as former Chief Justice Warren Burger characterized them, 'state armies') to possess guns. Lower court opinions, to the extent they existed, were largely in agreement ..." ...

"The GOP majority in the Idaho House of Representatives passed a bill last week that would allow students to carry firearms on college campuses. This ruling marks the last hurdle for the bill before it is presented to Gov. Butch Otter to sign. The popular liberal response has been to condemn these measures as counterproductive to the interest of safety. Yet, the slow pace at which gun reform is introduced would suggest that such condemnations are not effective. Rather than remaining in staunch opposition to the possession of guns, liberals would do well to be conscious of how pervasive gun culture is in the United States." ...

"Other gun-grabbing states have crazy laws, but California is neck and neck with any of them, even New Jersey and Maryland. Need examples of crazy gun laws? California legislators want each fired case to have a unique mark called a micro-stamp. Stranger still is that the micro-stamping requirements don’t apply to guns used by law enforcement officers. In fact, most firearms restrictions don’t apply to the police at all. How crazy is that!" ...

"'Americans for Responsible Solutions,' the anti-gun group headlined by former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark Kelly, is in a tizzy over the fact that the Georgia legislature appears close to passing a bill that would, among other things, legalize the carrying of defensive firearms in the non-'sterile' ('sterile' meaning secured with metal detectors and/or other scanners, and by federal law off limits to armed private citizens) areas of airports in the state. "With the release of the pentagon's new, reduced U.S. Army strength figures, all the noise is about what the smaller army size will mean to our future national security."

"The real problem for those who are concerned with national security should not be based on the size of the force, but rather, on whom we will fight in the future. ..."

"For starters, we should be working on training scenarios that feature Red China, Russia, North Korea and Iran as potential adversaries, to name a few. What are we actually doing? Well, last year a unit of the Ohio Army National Guard spent valuable training time and resources on military exercises with a scenario in which the supporters of our Second Amendment rights were the enemy." ...

... "The prosecution claimed that Henderson was within a few feet of the paramedics (but not physically interfering with them), while Beck testified that he was approximately 35 feet away, quietly filming. That disagreement would have been resolved by the video itself, except that the sheriff’s deputies seized Henderson’s video camera, and the tape that it contained mysteriously disappeared."

"The prosecutor offered Henderson a plea bargain whereby he would plead guilty to a petty misdemeanor and pay a $50 fine, but Henderson refused, preferring to defend the case on First Amendment grounds. He received a free legal defense from a prominent Twin Cities law firm." ...

"Illinois State Police began mailing the first 5,000 concealed carry licenses today, marking the beginning of a new era in the Prairie State, according to the Chicago Tribune, and Bellevue’s Second Amendment Foundation is cheering because it was a SAF federal court case that forced the state into the 21st Century."

"SAF’s Moore v. Madigan, and a similar case filed by the National Rifle Association known as Shepard v. Madigan, forced the Illinois Legislature, over the objections of anti-gun Gov. Pat Quinn, to adopt a carry statute. Illinois was the last state in the nation to deny its citizens the right to bear arms in self-defense outside the home and had to be compelled by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals." ...

"But Marlene Hoeber, president of the Northern California chapter of the Liberal Gun Club, wants the world to know that lefty politics and a love for guns and gun rights aren’t mutually exclusive."

"'If the conversation about gun policy in the United States is limited to what the National Rifle Association has to say, the conversation is over, because not enough people want to listen to that,' said Hoeber, 43, of Oakland, Calif. 'Hell, I’m a gun person, and I don’t want to listen to that.'" ...
