Few of us act like criminals. Even fewer of us think and act like mass murderers. I’m grateful for your restraint. Most of us think like honest citizens and that lack of imagination has deadly consequences. Ignoring evil gets us killed.
Do plastic signs stop criminals and mass-murderers? Consider these two points of view and judge for yourself.

An amendment to the latest bill allowing Nebraskans to carry concealed handguns without a permit won support from several law enforcement agencies, but a few prominent police officials remain opposed.
And the bill (LB77) continued to face opposition from lawmakers like state Sen. Jane Raybould of Lincoln, who led a filibuster Wednesday during the first day of debate on the legislation. A vote is not expected until the end of the week at the earliest. |

We have some lawmakers who apparently think just about anyone ought to be able to carry a sidearm, not have to have their concealed weapons permit at the ready to show law enforcement and just about go anywhere they want with a gun on their side, even where they’re not supposed to, such as in businesses that have a no-carry sign, church and even bars and restaurants. The caveat is that persons who carry where they were not supposed to can get a lesser penalty if they did not “knowingly” carry. Yeah, right. |

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) lost her bid for reelection Tuesday after receiving only 17% of the vote, placing her third out of all the candidates.
Her tenure was marked by numerous anti-Second Amendment actions, a sharp uptick in crime and her “protection for me, but not for thee” attitude toward her constituency.
Under her leadership, crime has risen 52% since 2022 and over 100% since 2021. When Chicago voters were polled earlier this year about how safe they felt, more than half said “not too safe” (28%) or “not safe” (33%). Only four percent replied they felt “very safe.” |

Senate Bill 171, which would have prohibited the manufacture, transfer or purchase of all automatic and semi-automatic weapons, including handguns, was derailed Monday by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Lawmakers from both major political parties voted to table it after debating whether any such ban would violate Second Amendment rights.
“I don’t think the bill would remotely stand a constitutional ruling,” Sen. Joseph Cervantes, D-Las Cruces, a lawyer, said during the discussion. |

Lots of outdoorsmen carry a gun with them when they’re in the field. Whether it’s for self-defense, pest control, or just some fun, a small, light gun is generally what they choose. In the early 20th century, small frame revolvers in rimfire calibers fit that bill. Before polymer and aluminum frame firearms, these smaller calibers were the best compromise. |

The recent movement towards “constitutional carry” rests under the assumption that the Second Amendment mandates that neither the federal government nor state governments can limit citizens carrying firearms. This would have been odd to Tennessee lawmakers and jurists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who interpreted the Second Amendment as a right against federal interference against state militias and not as an all-encompassing individual right. In 19th-century jurisprudence, a state’s constitution and laws, not the Second Amendment, governed how and when a state could regulate publicly carried firearms. |

Times, and gun ownership, are changing. Much to the chagrin of those who oppose lawful gun ownership, it is becoming increasingly difficult to paint the stereotype of today’s gun owner as pale, male and stale.
The firearm industry has always said it: the Second Amendment is colorblind. The right of law-abiding Americans to buy and own firearms is for everyone. For many in the media, that notion is unthinkable. If they were paying attention instead of projecting an antigun agenda, it wouldn’t be surprising. |

According to police reports, Jones was driving aggressively, speeding, and cutting off drivers on State Route 45 at Rio Vista Drive. Jones came to a stop at a traffic light and approached another vehicle behind him, banging on the vehicle window while holding a pistol. The 36-year-old man and his wife were stopped behind the vehicle Jones was threatening and tried to verbally intervene.
Jones then turned his attention to the 36-year-old and started to walk with the weapon in hand towards him. The 36-year-old yelled for Jones to stop, warning that he was also armed. However, Jones continued to approach until he was at a close distance, causing the 36-year-old to open fire in fear for his and his wife’s safety. |

President Joe Biden pledged in a speech late Wednesday to ban “assault weapons,” but critics were quick to push back.
Biden made the statement during his remarks at the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference.
“I know I make some of you uncomfortable, but that little state above me, in Delaware, is one of the — has the highest rate — one of the highest rates of gun ownership,” Biden said. "But guess what? We’re going to ban assault weapons again come hell or high water.”
Biden also called out “high-capacity magazines.” Those comments sparked pushback from critics who pointed to their Second Amendment protections. |

Yesterday and today, committees in both chambers held public hearings for a number of anti-gun bills. Despite these being “public” hearings, the committee chairs manipulated the hearings in order to make it seem that public sentiment is one-sided in favor of the bills. A large crowd of Second Amendment supporters took the time out of their schedules to show up, but the House Judiciary Committee cut off testimony after hearing 2.5 hours of just gun control supporters and told anyone else wishing to testify to “come back next week.” |

Officials in one California city have not attempted to enforce their novel requirement that gun owners buy specialized insurance.
San Jose has yet to issue a single citation to any of its 52,000 gun owners for failing to buy insurance since the ordinance went into effect at the beginning of the year, according to a report from San Jose Inside. The city has defaulted to an “honor system” for the insurance mandate. And officials have no idea whether anyone has actually bought the insurance they’ve mandated. |

Gov. Jim Justice signed Senate Bill 10, the Campus Self-Defense Act, during a March 1 signing ceremony.
The bill allows law-abiding West Virginians, who already have a concealed carry permit, to carry concealed on the campus of a state institution of higher education beginning July 1, 2024.
“I’m proud to sign the Campus Self-Defense Act which will strengthen Second Amendment protections in West Virginia,” Justice said. |

On March 1, 2023, F-rated Ohio Democrat Sens. Hearcel Craig and Catherine Ingram introduced what may be the world's shortest piece of legislation. It is also arguably the dumbest.
Senate Bill 78 seeks to repeal ORC 9.68, Ohio's preemption law. This would vaporize everything gun rights advocates have fought for over the past 20 years and allow every city, village, and township to enact their own set of firearms laws. That would create a patchwork of confusing and conflicting laws around the state. |

“Gun Owners of America is proud to endorse Sen. Risch's legislation to eliminate ATF's bureaucratic loopholes in the already unconstitutional National Firearms Act. ATF has deceived Congress and the American public with inaccurate NFA approval estimates for far too long. It shouldn't take a bureaucrat any longer than 90 days to process paperwork, and ATF certainly shouldn't be denying approval to make or transfer a firearm on day 88 just to skirt that deadline because they didn't finish a background check on time,” said Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affairs, Gun Owners of America. |

Peter F. Rose said the Second Amendment bars states from outlawing gun possession by nonviolent ex-convicts, because no similar restriction existed in the United States either when the amendment was ratified in 1791 or when the 14th Amendment extended the right to the states in 1868.
Such an historical analog would be necessary for Maryland’s restriction to be constitutional under the U.S. Supreme Court’s June decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, said Rose, an assistant Maryland public defender. |
