I worry about what might happen at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July. I worry for a lot of reasons. Donald Trump is one; Ted Cruz is another. But I worry as well because thanks to the Secret Service, the Quicken Loans Arena where the convention will be held is going to be a gun-free zone. |

The Seattle Times is reporting this morning about the updated Seattle Police investigation into the fatal February shooting of Che Taylor while in Washington, D.C. more information about yesterday's shooting at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center is also surfacing. If all the facts so far are correct, the two cases represent failures of gun control laws in the two Washingtons. While the District of Columbia is no longer a “gun free zone” for law-abiding citizens (it never really was for criminals), guns remain prohibited in places like the Visitor Center. |

Readying for oral arguments in June, attorneys for the state and Second Amendment groups are urging a full federal appeals court to uphold a 2011 Florida law that would restrict doctors from asking questions and recording information about patients' gun ownership. Attorney General Pam Bondi's office and the National Rifle Association filed documents Monday in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals backing the law, which has become widely known as the "docs v. glocks" law. Other Second Amendment groups, including the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, also made filings last week in support of the law. |

The City Council has added a proposal allowing concealed carry weapon permit holders to bring firearms into public buildings as an actionable agenda item to a future meeting. The date of the meeting where that vote would take place has not yet been announced. Despite the state Legislature’s having a similar bill on its plate, SB 1257, which would supersede anything the city does, council members have discussed this particular gun issue for several months now after backlash from some citizens who began seeing signs prohibiting guns at public buildings and parks.

The American commercial market for M1911 semi-automatic pistols is lively and growing despite being full to the brim with manufacturers. Populated by virtually every major gunmaker and a dozen, or more, smaller operations, it can be tough to stand out from the crowd. It’s harder still to target the narrow, and well-serviced, high-end/custom segment. But if you want to get noticed, offering guns proudly “Made in America” and wearing mammoth ivory stocks is sure to turn some heads. A case in point is Republic Forge, a relatively new builder of custom-grade M1911s out of Perryton, Texas.
