As of last week, 24 states have decided to let law-abiding adults carry handguns in public without a license. That policy, known as “constitutional carry,” strikes critics as self-evidently reckless, while supporters think it improves public safety.
Both sides in the long-running debate about the practical impact of reducing legal barriers to public handgun possession can cite studies to support their position. But beyond that empirical question is a moral and constitutional issue that may render it moot: If people have a fundamental right to armed self-defense, should they need the government’s permission to exercise it? |

As it is right now, gun owners in Florida need to carry a license with them when carrying a gun. What some state lawmakers want to do now is ditch the license in a move they say will bolster the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution for the right to bear arms.
Constitutional carry was one of several topics Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis-rattled off that he'd like to see discussed in the upcoming Florida Legislature special session, which he called for Tuesday to sort out the redrawn redistricting maps that he vetoed. |

Chairman Barker’s responsibilities also include serving as the top House negotiator tasked with defending 2nd Amendment rights and preparing pro-2nd Amendment legislation for floor action. Representative Barker’s work on concealed carry and other firearm issues was crucial to passage of legislation lowering the age for law-abiding Kansans to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense with training and a permit from 21 to 18. His work on these important issues has been recognized by 2nd Amendment advocates, including a Presidential Award for Legislative Achievement from the Kansas State Rifle Association. |

It’s not every day that a gun surprises me – especially one that’s minding its own in the safe – but my six-year old Molot Vepr did just that recently. This is a little tale of why, as well as a cursory review. It seems timely, since “Russia, Russia, Russia” has been the theme that keeps on giving on corporate news channels for about as long as I’ve owned this fine carbine.
Molot, for those not familiar, is a Russian gun factory that’s been around since 1940. It’s located in a Kirov township that’s dedicated to industrial pursuits. According to the company’s English version of its website, the factory delivered “more than half of all assault rifles delivered to the front line,” as part of the war effort beginning in 1941. |

You arrive home after dark. You get out of your car and walk to the side door of your house. The door is locked, but you don’t remember locking it. You head to the front of the house to try the front door. That is when you see a man come out of your house and move toward you. He has a knife in his hands and he threatens you.
You back away from your attacker, but he can move forward faster than you can back away. You own a gun. You’re carrying concealed tonight. You present your gun and shoot your attacker one time. You continue to back up and your attacker stops chasing you. Now he falls and you call 911. |

Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted last year of all charges in connection with a shooting that killed two people and injured a third during a 2020 protest in Wisconsin, has slammed President Biden and the mainstream media while insisting he’s not a white supremacist.
Rittenhouse, now 19, joined “The Jenna Ellis Show” podcast Tuesday to voice his grievances at news organizations in the aftermath of his acquittal and called out the commander-in-chief for ignoring his requests to meet with him. |

Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday signed legislation banning people from openly carrying firearms at polling places or within 100 feet of ballot drop boxes.
House Bill 1086, called the Vote Without Fear Act, earlier passed the state Senate and House along strict party-line votes, with Democrats in support and Republicans in opposition.
Supporters said the bill will prevent voter intimidation as the nation's political climate becomes more and more tense. |

Yesterday, the House voted to pass Senate Bill 387, to ban Marylanders from building so-called "ghost guns." Unlike its companion bill, which is still in the House, SB 387 received amendments during the legislative process to avoid federal prohibitions for a possession violation. It will now go to Governor Larry Hogan’s desk for his consideration. Please contact Gov. Hogan and ask him to VETO SB 387.

A law firm that specializes in helping people protect their Second Amendment rights issued a warning to gun owners that could save them from receiving a knock on the door from the federal government.
Kirk Evans, the president of U.S. LawShield, discussed with the Washington Examiner how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said forced-reset triggers could qualify some firearms as machine guns. |

Many people think they know what the U.S. Constitution says about the rights of citizens, particularly in regard to the Second Amendment. A great deal of division has arisen due to interpretation. “The Second Amendment Bible” by Caleb Lee condenses and clarifies everything individuals need to know in a 45-minute read that’s easy to understand. The book is available in a physical and digital format.
“Nothing was more important to the Founding Fathers than the right to speak freely and defend yourself,” said Lee. “That’s why those rights are protected in the First and Second Amendments of the United States Constitution.” |

There is no legitimate sporting or self-defense need for someone with proper marksmanship training to possess a 10-plus round magazine for their firearm of choice. Moving to create a regulatory environment where the possession, sale and manufacture of such magazines could be legally phased out over time would be a substantial advancement from a harm-reduction standpoint. Such a move could include a multi-year plan where low-capacity magazines would be made widely available to law-abiding gun owners before anything was banned outright. |

Our modern age has brought alternative sighting via reliable electronics to handguns in a big way in the form of laser sights and now small, electronic red-dot sights fitted atop the slide. The downside of electronics is the use of batteries, but battery life is surprisingly long today. Besides, just like rotating out the ammo in your magazines, changing out the battery on a routine basis will keep your sight running like a top. Even though most batteries will last for years of modest use, it is a good idea to have planned intervals for changing them. |

The reason behind this is the Dickey Amendment. The Dickey Amendment, according to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), was passed in the 1990s after the Center for Disease Control (CDC) began to treat the growing gun violence epidemic in the U.S. as a public health issue. The National Rifle Association (NRA) was then able to successfully lobby to ban the CDC from using any of its funding to advocate for or promote gun control. While this seems reasonable on the surface the effect it had was it essentially made it impossible for the CDC to do any kind of meaningful research into the source of gun violence in America. |

The immediate prize would be an affirmative ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. If the high court sticks with tradition, a ruling in this volatile Second Amendment case challenging the Empire State’s highly restrictive concealed carry permit scheme will come down late next month.
If gun owners win, don’t gloat. A victory will put anti-gunners on the spot and will give you an opportunity to question incumbents running for re-election this fall, along with challengers hoping to replace. Here’s how to quickly tell the good guys from the bad guys: |

Mead had been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Maurice. Maurice died on June 24, 2020 at Spring Hill Apartments in Staunton.
The prosecutors argued there was premeditation, malice, and intent. Murder without premeditation would make it second-degree murder. No malice would make it manslaughter. For Mead to be found not guilty, the jury had to believe he was acting solely in self-defense. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
...If a man lies under oath or procures the lie of another under oath, if he perjures himself or suborns perjury, he is guilty under the statute law. Under the higher law, under the great law of morality and righteousness, he is precisely as guilty if, instead of lying in a court, he lies in a newspaper or on the stump; and in all probability, the evil effects of his conduct are infinitely more widespread and more pernicious. — Teddy Roosevelt - May 12, 1900 |
