NC: North Carolina Votes in Favor of Freedom

Legislators in North Carolina recently voted to do away with the state’s antiquated permit-to-purchase system, as well as to recognize North Carolinians’ right to self-defense while attending a church with a school attached.

With the passage of S.B. 41, those in the Tarheel State will no longer need a permit just to purchase a firearm. As the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) pointed out, a permit-to-purchase system is “redundant and unnecessary.” The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is already used to conduct background checks on every firearm purchase at a gun store, and provides information to firearms dealers immediately.

The NRA will trot out that the problem is not too many guns or the type of guns but that there are not enough in the right hands. It will join a US Supreme Court in contending that the Constitution protects our right to possess guns (especially handguns) in our homes and perhaps on the streets for self-defense. Progressives will demand new gun control legislation, calling for bans on assault weapons, purchase delays, and background checks. Across these debates, facts take a backseat to myths.

Attorney General Paxton joined two Montana-led amicus briefs challenging New York’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act (“CCIA”), which makes it a felony to possess a firearm in any place of worship or a “sensitive location.”

After New York enacted the CCIA, several religious leaders—Reverend Dr. Jimmie Hardaway, Jr., Bishop Larry A. Boyd, and Pastor Micheal Spencer—sued, arguing that the law violated their Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. A district court then issued a preliminary injunction, which New York appealed.

According to Houston Police, at around 8:45 PM on Monday, the victim was inside the METRO downtown transit station on Main and Pierce Street. The victim, who is a wheelchair bound military veteran, was at the station waiting for a ride back home. An unknown male ran up to him, and tried to take a bag from him.

The victim drew a firearm and shot several times, striking the suspect. After being shot, the suspect ran away from the victim, where he collapsed on the ground with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was uninjured.

A woman armed with a pogo stick was shot in the chest in North Carolina, officials told news outlets. The injured woman was taken to a hospital after she was shot in self-defense, the Winston-Salem Police Department told WXII. Officers said they were called to a shooting at about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. At the scene south of downtown, police told news outlets they found a shell casing, handgun and a pogo stick — a toy that lets people jump up and down.

And now we have a law that seemed greased to go through the Republican Legislature and is now headed to Gov. DeSantis’ desk that would remove requirements for a permit or training in order to carry a concealed gun. The same lawmakers who don’t trust teachers to use good judgment when talking to kids about issues of race, sexuality or gender have no issue trusting every hothead out there with a concealed weapon and no training. That makes no sense.

Day three of testimony wrapped up in the murder trial of a rideshare driver accused of killing a protester in Austin nearly three years ago.

Sgt. Daniel Perry says he shot Garrett Foster in self-defense in July 2020 when Foster allegedly raised his rifle at him. A total of nine witnesses took the stand, including fellow protesters who were at the location Foster got shot, a medic and three Austin Police Department (APD) officers who responded to the shooting.

U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware Judge Richard G. Andrews denied the injunction in his 31-page opinion.

“I find that the [large-capacity magazine] and assault long gun prohibitions of [the Delaware laws] are consistent with the nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation. Plaintiffs have therefore failed to demonstrate a likelihood of success on the merits of their Second Amendment claim,” he wrote.

Andrews found that the plaintiffs failed to meet their burden of establishing likelihood of success on the merits and irreparable harm, noting that Delaware gun owners “retain ample effective alternatives” to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines for self defense.

The St. Augustine man who had manslaughter charges dismissed in a deadly shooting that was ruled justifiable self-defense will still be spending some time in jail.

On Thursday, Luis Casado was sentenced to 60 days in prison for carrying a firearm into a prohibited place with credit for one day served.

In December of last year, a judge granted Casado’s 'Stand Your Ground' motion in the May 2021 death of Adam Amoia outside Dos Gatos in St. Augustine.

As the riot of gun violence in America produces fresh massacres by the day, firearm fundamentalists refuse to acknowledge the blood on their hands, and their suicidal stance in the face of escalating carnage is that more guns are the answer.

But it’s worse than that.

Take a close look at the arguments that gun extremists advance and a dark truth emerges. They repeatedly put defense against tyranny at the center of their claim to unfettered access to firearms.

The Bible is a lynchpin of the pro-gun movement. In every corner of our country, purportedly Christian leaders lean into the narrative that bearing arms is a God-given right – one that should not be restricted in any way. So, as our nation reels from yet another mass shooting — this time, a gunman killed three children and three adults at an elementary school in Nashville — far-right Christian leaders continue to loudly and proudly lead the charge to funnel more guns into our communities.

ME: “Anti-Gun Bill Day” to be held on Monday, April 3rd

This hearing will include several dangerous anti-gun bills, including:

LD 22 is an overly broad bill that puts Maine out of alignment with federal law regarding the sale of antique firearms. This bill classifies these firearms in the same class as all other firearms, resulting in a conflict with how these sales are processed. This would put sellers who follow federal law in violation of state law.

LD 60 delays Second Amendment rights by imposing a three-day waiting period before an individual may receive a firearm that they lawfully purchase, with limited exemptions. There is no evidence that waiting periods reduce violent crime. Instead, this simply denies someone the ability to buy a firearm for urgent self-defense.

Sandy Hook is the mass shooting I hear mentioned most often when people talk about the moment they knew nothing would change.

A madman murders 26 people — most of them 6 or 7 years old — and Congress was still unable to pass substantive gun or mental health legislation. The assault weapons ban that Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced in 2013 was defeated in the Senate with 15 Democrats siding with Republicans in opposition.

For a lot of people, that vote 10 years ago was a clear sign that the National Rifle Association and the gun lobby had won. I believe that indication came 60 years ago with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

House Bill 1143 requires a permit to purchase a firearm and institutes a 10-day waiting period before a person can take possession of their legally purchased firearm, or longer if the state fails to complete the background check within 10 days. The state police will also maintain a “registry” of gun owners.

House Bill 1240 bans a provided list of rifles, including many used by millions of Americans for self-defense and hunting, and also goes the additional step of adding “features” of firearms that expand the list to hundreds more.

“If the world is dangerous, then you have to be dangerous back,” said Fin Smith, the organizer for Rainbow Reload in New Hampshire. What he didn’t say is that people on the left believe that only applies to them.

Rainbow Reload is one of a growing number of “pink pistol clubs.” These are clubs for LGBTQ+ people and people of color, where they can meet and learn about firearms and improve their safety. These clubs have been around since at least 2020. They serve a large group within the LGBTQ+ community. A recent study found 21.5 percent of LGBTQ+ people own a firearm, compared to 36 percent of straight people.

Taurus GX4 XL 9mm Striker-Fired Semiauto Pistol Review

With so many new micro 9mm pistols on the market it can be difficult to choose which gun is right for you, but one pistol that caught the attention of lots of folks was the Taurus GX4. The gun was a success right out of the gate, and it didn’t take long for the GX4 family to grow—figuratively and literally.

The GX4 XL, the newest member of the GX4 line, comes with a 3.7-inch barrel. That’s considerably longer than the 3.06-inch barrel on the standard GX4, but at 6.05 inches long, the new XL version of the GX4 is hardly difficult to conceal, and the extra barrel length is designed to extend the sight radius and help control muzzle rise.

It’s time to Infringe the hell of out of the Second Amendment

Well, I think it’s time that we infringe the hell of the Second Amendment, if that’s what it takes.

Christ said, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.” It should be no different with the laws that govern our society. Our laws should protect us, not endanger us.

How can it be that, alone among the developed nations, the United States meekly offers up its children to be slaughtered? For what purpose? A principle?

Other nations would not and have not tolerated that sort of carnage and they’ve put a stop to it.

Ask any parent who has lost a child what principle he would abandon, what sacrifice she would make, what freedom he would forfeit to save that child’s life.

The Florida Senate Thursday approved doing away with licensing requirements to carry a gun into most public places – but not into the Senate chamber where the bill was approved.

SB 150/HB 543 by Sen. Jay Collins, R-Tampa, passed on a mostly party line vote of 27 - 13 with Sen. Illeana Garcia, R-Miami, joining with Democrats to vote no.

The proposal had cleared the House a week earlier on a 77–32 vote, with one Republican voting no. The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has promised to sign the proposal, although it does not include an open carry provision, which he has also endorsed.

A bill that would allow people to sue gun makers cleared a key Senate committee Thursday.

Despite a federal law that protects firearms manufacturers and dealers, the proposed statute would allow people harmed by firearms to hold the companies accountable in state court.

Hawaii would join a handful of blue states, including New York and California, that have passed laws allowing legal action against gun makers for creating a public nuisance and unreasonable risk.

On February 23, Democrats in the state Senate introduced three bills they believe will help address the problem of gun violence in our state.

SB23-169 Increasing Minimum Age to Purchase Firearms, changes the minimum age to legally purchase any firearm to 21. Approved amendments to the bill have added exceptions to the minimum age of 21 for licensed hunting, sanctioned shooting training, active-duty military members, peace officers, and persons who are over 18 when the law passes, for firearms they would have been able to legally purchase under the prior law.

That decision was appealed to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2021. After sitting on the case for over a year—and after the Supreme Court ruled in NYSRPA v. Bruen—a three-judge panel of the court upheld the law. That panel ruled that the Second Amendment should be interpreted as it was understood in 1868, when the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified thereby incorporating the Second Amendment to the states, as opposed to 1791, when the Second Amendment was originally ratified. But the Supreme Court could not have been clearer in Heller and Bruen that 1791 is the more appropriate timeframe for interpreting the Second Amendment...
