"The demise of Republican gun legislation in the Senate and a stalemate over renewing the assault-style weapons ban thrusts gun control squarely into the fall presidential campaign, both sides in the debate say." ...
" 'You can be sure it's going to be in the presidential campaign as a bona fide issue as to whether the American people want AK-47s, street sweepers and Uzis sold once again,' said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., one of the chief sponsors of the assault weapons ban." |

"First, the U.S. Senate voted to renew the Feinstein semi-auto ban. Then it voted for the McCain gun show ban. All this in addition to the 'Lock Up Your Safety' requirement that Senators tacked on to the lawsuit protection bill last week."
"You will remember that Gun Owners of America had warned senators last week to oppose S. 1805 if it was loaded down with gun control provisions. Thankfully, pro-gun senators heeded the call to kill the bill once it was turned into an anti-gun abomination. These senators were joined by their anti-gun counterparts who opposed the underlying bill because they still want to bankrupt the gun makers." |

"Over the past few years, a deluge of lawsuits have targeted firearms manufactures, claiming they should be held liable for damages done with a gun. Now Congress is considering a bill to shield the manufactures from frivolous suits."
"The goal of the anti-gun lobby is to throw up thousands of suits against the manufactures, hoping to put them out of business." ...
"In the short run, we need to pass the bill to shield gun makers from frivolous law suits. They will still be liable for defective products, or for selling a weapon to a known criminal. And in the long run, we need tort reform to stop such suits from being filed against anyone in such a manner. Freedom of business is at stake here. Because if one industry can be bankrupted in this way, yours could be next." |

"Here's a nasty little stat: Just 1 percent of gun dealers supply 57 percent of the guns used in crimes. These are dealers like Washington's Bull's Eye Shooting Supply, which supplied the assault rifle the D.C. snipers used to gun down their victims – as well as guns traced to 52 other crimes including homicides and kidnappings. But if this bill ever becomes law, the families of those murdered by Muhammad and Malvo would be denied the right to hold Bull's Eye accountable in court."

"A new study shows that Illinois has more 'post-ban' assault weapon manufacturers than any other state, according to the release of 'Illinois: Land of Post-Ban Assault Weapons' conducted by the Violence Policy Center, based in Washington, D.C."
"Although the federal assault weapons ban was passed in 1994, the gun industry has willfully circumvented federal law and created through a process dubbed 'sporterization' a new generation of assault weapons and re-named them 'post-ban' or 'after-ban' assault weapons. The gun industry has evaded the intent of Congress to get military style semi- automatic assault weapons off the streets by making minor cosmetic changes and producing 'clones' and 'knock-off' versions to continue to sell for profit at the expense of public safety." |
