There are now 25 states with so-called “Constitutional carry” and Florida appears to be approaching permitless carry, which translates to more citizens soon being able to carry defensive firearms without having to jump through the hoops of a licensing process.
There is another translation: Criminals, be careful … be very careful. In fact, now might be a good time to reconsider your career choices and see if the hardware store is hiring. |

Sectional Density (SD) is a term that is becoming part of everyday gun talk. Sectional Density (SD) has been an important factor in caliber selection for more than 82 years. SD was often referred to as “knock down power” or “stopping power.” It was a common belief that “heavy and slow” was better than “light and fast” in stopping a threat. The comparison was hitting someone with a brick versus a cinder block. The downside was that heavy and slow had significantly more recoil than light and fast. Nowadays, this concept has shifted to light, fast, capacity and less recoil. |

The New Mexico bill from Democratic sponsors including Senate President Pro Tempore Mimi Stewart of Albuquerque advanced on a 24-16, party-line vote, with Republicans in opposition. House concurrence with recent amendments is needed to send the bill to supportive Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The bill would make it a crime to store a firearm in a way that negligently disregards the ability of a child or teenager under age 18 to access it. Criminal charges could be brought only if the minor later brandishes or displays the firearm in a threatening way, or uses it to kill or injure someone. |

Almost a year after an April 2022 shooting at the Snowslip Inn in Essex that left 36-year-old Jeremy McKenzie dead in the parking lot, Flathead County Attorney Travis Ahner has chosen not to charge the shooter following an investigation that raised “issues of self-defense.”
“We didn’t think it would be a successful prosecution based on self-defense,” Ahner told the Beacon. |

New York’s newly enacted restrictions on firearms in places of worship violate the constitution, according to a new legal brief filed by the Second Amendment Foundation in a case challenging the state’s new gun control laws.
The brief, filed in the Second Court of Appeals by the Second Amendment Foundation, urges the court to uphold a decision by the lower court in a lawsuit that blocked New York’s restrictions against firearms in churches, synagogues and other places of worship. |

In its response to plaintiffs’ groups suing to block Illinois’ gun ban and registry, the state argues the law is constitutional and restricts dangerous weapons.
Illinois banned the sale of certain semi-automatic guns and magazines on Jan. 10. The law also sets up a registry of weapons owned by those in possession of them before the ban.
Gun rights groups and individuals filed state-level and federal-level legal challenges. |

Kyle Rittenhouse has managed to raise over $200,00 in donations after pleading for help to pay his legal bills as he faces two fresh lawsuits related to the Kenosha shooting in August 2020.
By late February, Rittenhouse's campaign on Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo—whose goal is to raise a total of $500,000—had received just over $109,000. The campaign received a sudden boost in donations after the embattled 20-year-old appeared on Tucker Carlson's show on Fox News, asking for support in raising money for the legal costs he's currently facing. |

On Tuesday, March 7, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee is expected to vote on Senate Bill 1, a gun-control bill that would expand gun-free zones while leaving only law-abiding citizens defenseless. Senate Bill 1 is currently being redrafted a third time; based on previous versions, it’s still likely to be overbearing, trampling on the rights of law-abiding citizens and making it harder to carry for self-defense. Proponents have consistently failed to explain how disarming law-abiding, trained, and licensed individuals will increase public safety from criminals who do not obey the law. |

Last week, the city of La Verne, California, finally unveiled its application process for residents wishing to obtain a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license, nearly nine months after the Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. If the delayed rollout wasn’t enough, the city has decided to further dissuade its residents from carrying by charging nearly $1,100 for all first-time applicants. |

On Sunday, March 5, the Senate Health & Public Affairs Committee will hold hearings on two extreme measures that target law-abiding citizens and the firearms industry:
Senate Bill 427 by Sen. Joseph Cervantes (D-Las Cruces), imposes a 14-day waiting period on all firearm purchases, with an exception for concealed handgun licensees. Like House Bill 100, this measure will add nothing to the existing FBI background check process and will only delay your ability to exercise your Second Amendment right to defend yourself, your family and your property. Now, the appellate panel has given itself a do-over, releasing a new decision that manages to make matters even worse. In particular, the ruling includes an expanded concurrence from Judge James C. Ho that questions the fairness and wisdom of the law, known as Section 922(g)(8).
“Scholars and judges have expressed alarm that civil protective orders are too often misused as a tactical device in divorce proceedings — and issued without any actual threat of danger,” wrote Ho, who was named to the bench by President Donald Trump. |

With the recent release of the FN 510 Tactical, Fabrique Nationale has placed another brick in the wall of the contemporary 10mm pistol market. I first heard, or read, about the 10mm Auto as a kid—in the Tom Clancy book Rainbow Six. It was used by the fictional elite anti-terrorist unit because of its wide margin of power over the 9mm. The 10mm was nearly relegated to the pages of fiction itself after falling out of favor with the FBI but has leapt out of obscurity in recent years. It’s proven to be not just a high-powered option for two-legged attackers, but a balanced and effective cartridge for bear defense. |

Yesterday, arm in arm with members of a national anti-gun group, Governor Tina Kotek and Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced their efforts to further erode Second Amendment rights in Oregon, among them restricting home-built firearms, discriminating against young adults, and increasing areas where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless. Gov. Kotek has also requested a $750,000 appropriation towards prosecutors for just firearm related offenses, with no mention of whether that will be focused on violent offenders using firearms in commission of their crimes or for otherwise law-abiding gun owners caught up in victimless crimes. These three bills are now before the House Judiciary Committee. |

The project must start with a shift away from tolerance of gun extremists. Acceptance must cease of these murder-mongers in the media, government, public gatherings and the home next door. No longer can their fanaticism be indulged or their rigidity accommodated. Society must stigmatize them, and they must be rendered culturally odious. Only when gun absolutists become social pariahs can the nation start to establish comprehensive reform, allowing community members to attend schools, shop at grocery stores and visit nightclubs without fear of being torn to shreds in a blast of bullets. |

Michigan firearm owners and strong proponents of Second Amendment rights at a Thursday press conference threw their weight behind the gun reform bills introduced by state Democrats and urged lawmakers to cast what they said should be “an easy vote” in favor of the legislation.
“I can’t think of any other issue in this state where the citizens of Michigan are more united,” Jon Gold, president of the Michigan chapter of Giffords Gun Owners for Safety and a National Rifle Association-trained firearms instructor, said of the gun reform legislation moving its way through the state House and Senate. “This shouldn’t be a hard vote for anybody. This is an easy vote.” |

Gov. Ron DeSantis was recorded Thursday telling a member of a gun rights group that he supports allowing Floridians to openly carry guns in public — a measure that has been publicly opposed by some law enforcement officials and that would go further than any bill now filed for the upcoming legislative session.
Luis Valdes, Florida director of Gun Owners of America, said he asked DeSantis at a book tour stop in Jacksonville Beach whether he would support open carry and if he would have it added to current bills.
“Yeah, absolutely,” DeSantis is heard to say during a 10-second interaction recorded by Valdes and shared with the Times. “I don’t think they’re going to do it, but I would absolutely.” |
