The 16th Amendment: How the U.S. Federal Income Tax Went From Temporary to Political WeaponThe American Revolution was sparked in part by unjust taxation. After all, the colonists in Boston rebelled against Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” and summarily tossed English tea into the harbor in protest in 1773.
Nowadays Americans collectively spend more than 6 billion hours each year filling out tax forms, keeping records, and learning new tax rules according to the Office of Management and Budget. |

Comfortably asleep in their beds late at night, a married couple was awakened by the agitated growling of their dogs at the back door. The Warren, Ohio, couple then heard the unmistakable sound of someone breaking in. Springing into action, the homeowner grabbed his pistol and ran to take cover by the refrigerator. The burglar broke into the house and was confronted by the homeowner shouting, “I have a gun!” Ignoring the warning, the intruder came at the armed citizen, who shouted his warning again before taking aim and firing his gun, shooting the suspect in the arm. |

As I write this I’m sitting in a tree during Oklahoma’s late archery season, waiting for a whitetail buck or a wild hog. Hanging from a hook on my left is my bow; on my right hip hangs a sidearm. Whether I’m bowhunting at home or in the grizzly country of Wyoming—or driving to the quick-stop for chicken strips later—the sidearm remains constant. This one is a 16-round Springfield Armory XD(M) semi-automatic pistol chambered in 10mm Auto. And it makes me feel good.

Earth-shattering evolution isn’t exactly a hallmark of the firearm industry. Imagine if Ford’s 2019 releases included a Model T complete with GPS navigation, spinner rims and a flashy paint job. Sure, it looks kind of new and modern, but at its heart, it’s still a Model T. Many of today’s “modern” guns are, at heart, designs from 50- or 100-odd years past. So, the emergence of non-NFA-regulated, short-barrel, shotshell-firing firearms—an entirely new product category—is a rare opportunity to observe the development of a never-before-seen self-defense setup. In the new, semi-automatic Remington Tac-13, that system might just have reached its zenith. |

Down in south Texas, where the weather is wet but tolerable in February, Kyle Defoor of Defoor Proformance Shooting held a rendition of his two-day pistol curriculum. It was my good fortune to attend. Despite the name, the days were packed with a lot more than just pistol shooting. Ten minutes in, I could tell this wasn’t going to be Your Mama’s Pistol Class. The safety brief was presented in a way that makes sense for off-range encounters, with strong emphasis on “feel the steel,” Defoor’s term for where the trigger finger should be, in contact with the slide, except when firing. |

A surprising study released late February concluded that when physicians and other healthcare professionals contribute their own funds to political action committees, those committees, in turn, reflect pro-Second Amendment viewpoints. The study, completed by Jeremiah Schuur, M.D., and published at the JAMA Network Open — "open access medical research and commentary" — supported by the American Medical Association, compared political contributions during the 2016 election cycle (from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2016) to various House and Senate candidates running for office. |

Last week, Representative Eric Swalwell, who has in the past proposed an Australia-style “buyback” of certain firearms and who threatened to nuke gun owners who wouldn’t turn in their guns, claimed on Twitter that the NRA threatened Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Well, that was a lie and one that was quickly shot down in the wake of his tweet.

Late summer in Texas. A shirtless Mat Best takes a photo of himself gazing out from behind a desert-colored AR-15. He holds the rifle vertically so that it obscures, in a stylized way, half his tattooed chest and ruggedly handsome features. (Sky-blue eyes, Crest-white smile, beard.) If Abercrombie & Fitch did a photo shoot in Fallujah, it would produce something like this. |

Calling it a matter of constitutional rights, the House of Representatives voted to allow parents and others to drive onto school campuses with loaded weapons in their cars. The 31-27 party-line vote for HB2693 in the Republican-controlled chamber came amid pleas from some lawmakers, who said they feel safer for themselves and their children when dropping them off and picking them up. Rep. Regina Cobb, R-Kingman, said she can attest to that based on personal experience. |

This past week, Democrats in Congress again launched an attack on our Constitution and the rights we cherish as Americans. This time, they came after the Second Amendment and our right to bear arms. H.R. 8, the latest Democrat-led gun control bill does absolutely nothing to prevent criminals or violent persons from getting their hands on firearms. What H.R. 8 does do is violate the Constitutional rights of millions of Americans, ignores the mental health crisis behind actions of mass violence and limits the Constitutional rights of millions of responsible gun owners. |

A third Republican governor—Matt Bevin of Kentucky—will reportedly sign legislation generically called “Constitutional Carry” that allows citizens of the Blue Grass State to carry firearms without a permit.
If that happens, he will be the third governor to sign such a bill this year, the other two being South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt. All are Republicans. |

New York lawmakers voted Monday to require storing guns in a locked container or with a gun lock in homes with children under 16. The storage or locking requirement would apply to guns that are out of the owner’s “immediate possession or control.” There’s an exception for a rifle or shotgun when the young person in the house has a New York hunting license or permit.

The non-stop push by the American left to dismantle existing American time-honored and time-tested institutions is how they will force socialism and central control on the American people. They’ll continue to destroy the bedrock institutions of Western culture, such as religion, schools, family, capitalism, businesses, law and order, the Constitution including the First and Second Amendment, and the rule of law. When those pushing back surrender at the ballot box, the scales will tip, and the left will achieve their ultimate plan to destroy America.
