Madelynn Bernau, 22, of Waterford has been aiming at this goal for several years.

Like the sure-shot she has proven to be, on Monday she hit it.

Bernau earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic women's trapshooting squad by outscoring all of her competitors in a tense four-day qualification event in Tuscon, Arizona.

Together with scores from Part 1 of the selection process held last fall, Bernau broke 481 targets and secured the second of two American slots for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Kayle Browning, 27, of Conway, Arkansas, placed first overall in the women's trap qualifying with a score of 493.

Bernau was in fourth place entering Part 2 of the qualifying process, held Friday through Monday at Tucson Trap and Skeet Club.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issued a public safety advisory Tuesday to all federal firearm licensed dealers (FFLs) in the state regarding a change in background checks.

In the letter, the ATF tells all Michigan FFLs that they are required to conduct a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) before selling a firearm to someone who doesn't hold an FFL, even if that person holds a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).

This changes a previous rule the ATF issued on March 24, 2006, saying that all FFLs could sell to someone with a valid CPL that was issued on or after Nov. 22, 2005, instead of running a NICS background check.

Senate Bill 47, sponsored by Senator Randy Price, creates a new statewide, uniform system to provide lifetime permits for qualified applicants at a cost of $200. For state residents over 65, the fee drops to $150.

Dont listen to the fake news being pushed by opponents of this bill. Most aspects of the current permitting process will not change. The application for the lifetime permit will collect the exact same information as the current permit. Also, like current permits, it will not be an endorsement on your drivers licenses or visible to anyone outside of Alabama. Individuals interested in obtaining a lifetime permit will apply at their local sheriffs office for a background check and to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

Mark Robinson's impassioned defense of gun rights to a North Carolina city council that went viral has catapulted the former furniture factory worker to the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor in less than two years.

Robinson, a first-time candidate, got the most votes among the nine-person field in Tuesday's primary. Unofficial results show his 32.5% total more than doubled second-place finisher Andy Wells and exceeded the 30% threshold to avoid a runoff.

House Republican Members today voted unanimously in support of HCR 2033, a concurrent resolution supporting the Second Amendment. The resolution was introduced by Representative Frank Carroll (R-22) and cosponsored by all Republican Members of the Legislature.

In passing the resolution, Members reaffirmed their oath of office to support and defend the rights and liberties of the citizens of Arizona as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and Section 26 of the Constitution of Arizona, including the right of citizens to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

On March 5th, the Oregon Supreme Court sided with NRA on several points in a challenge against Initiative Petition 40, finding the title and yes result statement inadequate to alert voters of the changes proposed to the law. It will now be sent back to the Attorney General for modification.

The Tennessee House this week passed two proposals addressing how state residents use deadly force. The first measure would allow a person to kill to prevent a sexual assault. Franklin Rep. Brandon Ogles sponsored the bill. He explained to colleagues on the House floor when the bill would allow deadly force.

Despite applications being down, Portage County issued the ninth-highest number of new concealed-carry licenses in Ohio in 2019, according to a report released from the Ohio Attorney Generals Office this week.

Portage County approved 1,389 new licenses in 2019, according to the report, down from 1,992 in 2018. Franklin County, the most populous county in Ohio with just over 1.3 million people, issued the most new licenses in 2019 at 4,740.

This week the NRA filed legal challenges against Initiative Petition 61 and Initiative Petition 62, which severely restricts and regulates commonly-owned firearms, making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

NRA previously filed a legal challenge against Initiative Petition 60 on Friday. The legal challenges assert that the ballot titles violate Oregon law (ORS 250.035) by not alerting voters of the changes in the law proposed in the measures.

Members of the Berks County Libertarian Party are not giving up on their call for county commissioners to join a growing trend across the country by declaring the county a Second Amendment sanctuary vowing to establish a local jurisdiction where gun laws they view as unconstitutional will not be enforced.

Jerry Geleff, chairman of the local Libertarian Party, once again urged the board at its meeting Thursday to pass a resolution proclaiming support for gun ownership rights. He made the same pitch last week with no success.

An Anderson County spokesperson said a working committee has been assembled to assist in drafting an ordinance to make the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The legislation in question covers both open and concealed carry. Tennessees present law mandates a permit for both types. Tennessee is currently ranked in 13th place according to Guns & Ammo magazines ranking of the best states for gun owners. Passing constitutional carry will assuredly go a long way in strengthening the states already pro-gun image.

The title of Deutschs legislation makes it seem like its about making sure that any 3D printed firearm is safe. The title of the legislation is a lie. The truth is that Congressman Deutschs legislation would render the legal cases moot by imposing a blanket ban on any publication of computer files that would program a 3D printer to make a firearm.
