"I'm sure we have all heard the plaintive cry from the 'practical' weak-kneed compromise apologists: I know XYZ isn't the best bill/ law/candidate but if we don't support it/him/her we'll get something/someone even worse! You hard-liners/gun-nuts are so unreasonable! A-yup; unreasonable is a pretty darned good way to describe me. Indeed I have written on this subject before and I undoubtedly will again and again until the Second Amendment (and the rest of the Bill of Rights) is treated as if it were actually the law of the land instead of a laundry-list of items the police state has to tiptoe around ..." ...

But jeez Louise, what else can you say about the Mayor of the largest city in the U.S. who thinks the Constitution, state and federal laws don't apply to him and his minions? We know from his 'gun show stings' that sending his Geheime Staatspolizei agents across state lines to commit felonies in support of his anti-Second Amendment agenda is old hat to Hizzonner; so why would anyone believe that he would respect any sort of jurisdictional boundaries when it comes to sending out his agents to violate the First and Fourth amendment rights of New Jerseyites?" ...

"To an overwhelming percentage of Americans, the constitutional question over DC’s and Chicago’s gun bans seemed simple enough. The plain meaning of the amendment was clear, and the Supreme Court agreed. In 2008 and 2010, Supreme Court decisions struck down gun bans and gunlock laws and decided that Americans have a right to self-defense. These were contested decisions, both being decided by close 5 to 4 votes. The four dissenting liberals claimed that there exists no individual right to 'self-defense,' and even if such a right existed, it could be overridden by the public interest of reducing gun crimes and suicides." ...

"My daughter just turned 14. That’s a happy thing. She’s growing from a beautiful child into an amazing young lady. It won't be long before she’s driving ... and in the not too distant future, heading off for the college of her our choice. And that brings me to the horns of a dilemma. Used to be, you’d pick a school based on just a few factors: the quality of the education, what it offered in the way of classes for a particular area of study, the cost of a 4-year degree, and the reputation for hard-partying (or lack thereof). But now, you have to add to that the relatively related concerns of the campus’s social bias and their attitude towards guns. I’ve got four years to figure this out. And that may not be enough time…" ...

"1) that the Second Amendment is not limited to the confines of one’s home, an issue not resolved in D.C. v.Heller or McDonald v. Chicago, and"

"2) the standard of review to be used by courts when considering Second Amendment restrictions. Justice Scalia said in D.C. v. Heller that the old, low standard of 'rational basis' was no longer a sufficient bar for governmental curtailment of this (now) fundamental right." ...

"Historically, there was no right to absolute ownership of real property. Real property rights were absolute only in the government. It is a modern secular belief that citizens have 'rights' to individual ownership and control of real property. Despite (or because of) the furore surrounding Glock's 'plastic' pistol—supposedly invisible to airport metal detectors—consumers and police departments were fascinated by the 'wonder nine.' When they shot a Glock the resulting revelation spurred sales to unimaginable heights. The original G17 was lighter than all-metal pistols of comparable size, held more ammo and proved to be as trusty as a canine companion. As Gen4 enters circulation, the question looms: has time been kind to the Black Labrador of pistols?" ...

'If we are ever able to offer meaningful help to troubled kids, we must better understand the factors that cause teens to be so alienated and enraged that they would engage in violence.' KABA Note: Sung to the tune of "Dancin' in the Bathtub":

Dancin' in the bloodstains, Dancin' in the bloodstains
Dancin' in the bloodstains, Bradys and the VPC
Celebrate the killin', Celebrate the killin'
Celebrate the killin' and we'll all be on TV
Pushin' our agenda, Pushin' our agenda
Pushin' our agenda, a world gone all gun free!

We don't care what the facts are, As long as blood is spilled
Give us a nice big corpse count, or children who've been killed
Then we can blame the gun-nuts, our cries will be so shrill
"We need to save the child'ren, so please pass our new bill"
Laws may not stop some nut-job, from killing folks that day
But one more law will do it, believe in what we say

(Chorus)

It won't affect the lawful, we will not ban their gun
But if it saves just one child, our work is well begun
We must now close this loophole, to end another threat
Oh here's another bill now, we are not finished yet
We'll keep on passing new laws, we will not take a rest
Until there are NO guns left, and we will all be blessed.

"Constitutional lawyers said Tuesday that a recent federal court decision overturning a portion of Maryland's gun-control law will likely be upheld on appeal and called the ruling groundbreaking given the liberalism of the state from which it came."

"The decision, made public Monday, relaxed state requirements for carrying a gun and broadly interpreted the Second Amendment's 'right to bear arms' as extending beyond the home. "As they praise a court ruling that dubbed a Maryland gun law provision unconstitutional, some local legislators are asking for immediate changes to the firearm permitting process."

"Requiring handgun permit applicants to show a 'good and substantial reason' for carrying a weapon clashes with the constitutional right to bear arms because the standard lacks definition, the judge decided." ...

..."And despite cynical suggestions from angry travelers that security officers keep the items for themselves, the TSA turns over the property to state agencies and commercial vendors, which cart it away to sell. Although public auctions yield a fraction of retail prices, dozens of states have found some revenue in the contraband."

"'It's kind of amazing what people will try to take on board,' says Troy Thompson, spokesman for Pennsylvania's Department of General Services, which takes some of the contraband. 'To them (passengers), it's an item that's not threatening, but in these days and times it is threatening.'" ...
