Matthew Askins sat in front of Kent County's gun board for an interview that turned into an interrogation.
The concealed weapons license applicant was questioned about allegedly hiring a hit-man to injure an ex-girlfriend in 1988, about various episodes of harassment and intimidation alleged by an ex-wife and about an ex-wife's personal protection order. The panel inquired about a suspected breaking and entering at an ex-wife's property, a suspected larceny from an ex-wife and a domestic dispute with a girlfriend.
The county flagged the application from Askins because of the history of police incidents. Gun board members called it the worst list they've seen. |

On Friday February 13 at 4:00 pm, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms released a proposal to ban commonly used M855 "green tip" AR-15 ammunition under the guise of law enforcement safety. The same day the proposal was released, on a Friday of a three day holiday weekend, ATF opened up a shortened 30-day period for the public to submit comments about the new regulation.
But it turns out, ATF has been working on a ban of AR-15 "green-tip" ammunition for quite some time and has already issued the ban in its new, 2014 Regulation Guide. For reference, ATF Regulation Guides come out approximately every ten years.

WINSLOW, N.J. (AP) - A southern New Jersey police officer has admitted shooting a gun at his own police vehicle last year.
Camden County prosecutors say 23-year-old Da'Shaun Carr pleaded guilty Wednesday to filing false reports and was sentenced to a year of probation. Carr also is barred from holding public office and will forfeit the gun he used.
Carr had been a part-time special officer with the Winslow Police Department for about a year before the shooting occurred Oct. 3 at New Brooklyn Park in Winslow
Prosecutors say Carr called in the shooting, and investigators determined the patrol car had been shot once through the front windshield. Bullet fragments also were recovered from inside the vehicle.

Few ask. Fewer still are approved.
That’s the bottom line on the number of people who have been allowed to take a concealed weapon onto a Nevada school campus.
It’s a hot issue at the Nevada Legislature where a third attempt is being made to allow people with concealed weapon permits to take their guns on college campuses and into other public and private buildings.
Current law prohibits a weapon on campus unless the person gets permission from the school president.

The right to defend oneself is etched in dozens of state laws but, as a number of high-profile cases across the country recently showcased, that right often will have to be defended in court.
Louisiana is one of 21 states with a “stand your ground” law offering citizens latitude to use deadly force over fleeing during an altercation. |

The decision focuses on whether a stun gun is designed as a weapon, like "firearms, daggers, stilettos and brass knuckles," or designed as a tool but used as a weapon like "pocket knives, razors, hammers, wrenches and cutting tools."
Citing the statutory definition, the court said it is clear that a stun gun belongs to the first category.
"The record demonstrates no evidence or argument that its purpose is for anything other than bodily assault and defense," Justice Francis Spina wrote for the court.

A smirking White House spokesman Josh Earnest couldn’t conceal his glee, yesterday, as he reveled in the trick Obama had played on the Second Amendment movement.
Think back to April 17, 2013, when the Senate killed the Feinstein amendment to ban the AR-15 by a vote of 60-40. This fell 20 votes short of the needed 60, even though Democrats controlled the Senate at the time. But now Obama is trying to effectively ban the AR-15 by “regulatory fiat” by banning the most common ammunition used in that firearm, M855 ammunition.

This week, Rep. Dan Schoen and Sen. Ron Latz introduced…well, we call it the Sign Away Your Rights & Rat Out Your Family Act. The Bloomberg bill, HF1361/SF1289, starts with the assumption that every gun owner is a ticking time bomb. The bill would encourage doctors to trick you into giving up your gun rights, and encourage your most anti-gun family member to petition a court to take away your Second Amendment rights. |

The Kansas Senate has approved legislation that would allow gun owners to carry concealed handguns without a permit.
Senate Bill 45 , approved by 31-7 vote on Feb. 26, has been sent to the state House.
Kansans can already carry an unconcealed firearm without a permit. Senate Bill 45 would eliminate the permit process to carry a concealed gun. For a permit today, applicants most submit to a state and national background check and complete an approved handgun safety and training course.
Under SB 45, concealed carry licenses would still be issued by the state, if a gun owner applies, but carrying handguns without a license, openly or concealed, loaded or unloaded, would be legal. |

While many eyes will be focused on today’s planned demonstration in front of the Thomas S. Foley federal courthouse in Spokane, an equally important, if not more so, story has unfolded over the past week in Olympia, where true grassroots action by Second Amendment activists put the brakes on what appeared to be a runaway train of gun control, and brought gun prohibitionists whining for money they don’t need in an e-mail appeal. |

Constitutional carry legislation, which would allow anyone who can legally carry a gun to carry concealed without a permit, is dead for the year, Republican legislators said Friday at a news conference. Idaho lawmakers instead plan to take up a bill to modify the state code on concealed carry and take away elected officials’ rights to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.

No evidence has so far emerged that the cop-killer bullets President Obama wants to ban have killed a single cop.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said earlier this week that the .223 caliber M855 ball, commonly used in the popular AR15 rifle, should be banned because it can penetrate an officer’s armor.
Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, stated: “We have not been able to find a single instance where a police officer has been shot from this type of handgun using a bullet that pierces his soft-body armor, and if the administration had any examples you know they would be pushing it in everybody’s face to further their executive action.” |

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says it wants to ban popular .223 M855 “green tip” ammunition because the bullets can pierce bulletproof vests used by law enforcement. Although the ATF previously approved it in 1986, the agency now says that because handguns have now been designed that can also fire the bullets, police officers are now more likely to encounter them. Some 239 members of the House have now put their names to the letter opposing the ban, which they say would interfere with Americans’ Constitutional rights. |

Some new bills proposed in both South Carolina and Georgia could change the concealed carry permit requirements, and whether or not the state will recognize them.
South Carolina House Bill 3025 would recognize concealed carry permits issued by other states, including those issued in Georgia. Right now, South Carolina does not recognize those concealed carry permits issued in Georgia.
Another bill proposed, Georgia Senate Bill 68, would add a required training class to the application for a concealed carry permit.

Instead of actually listening to the evidence and using the preliminary hearing as an opportunity to stop a bad case in its tracks, she played along with Reno911 and totally ignored Norrell’s rights under the Second Amendment and Nevada law to defend himself, his child, and pregnant wife from an uninvited painter who came onto his third floor balcony without the nicety of knocking on the door. No shots were fired, and nobody was hurt; and in fact, it was Norrell himself who called Reno911–for which he was arrested by a patrolman with two years of experience and an obvious lack of understanding of the concept of self defense.

The National Rifle Association is warning that the administration's plan to ban one type of AR-15 ammo is just the first step in taking away all hunting rounds, a backdoor bid to impose national gun control.
"He can [sic] ban their guns so he's going to ban their ammo," said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA, the nation's largest organization promoting the Second Amendment. |
