"Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) is putting his anti-gun spin on a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on firearms purchases by suspected terrorists during a five-month period last year to push his gun control agenda, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."
"Sen. Lautenberg announced that he will introduce legislation requiring the National Instant Check System (NICS) to retain records of gun purchases by suspected terrorists for at least ten years."
"'In Sen. Lautenberg's warped view, anyone who buys a gun is a suspected terrorist,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. 'Based on his past record, he is looking for any avenue to justify a back door gun registration scheme ...'" ... |

"Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN) will soon be reintroducing his national reciprocity bill that protects the right of citizens to carry their firearms into other states."
"Hostettler's language has a huge advantage over other reciprocity-type bills in that it does not punish states for being too pro-gun. His bill would not penalize citizens from states like Alaska and Vermont, because his proposal doesn't require a citizen to first get a permit to enjoy reciprocity in another state." ...
"Rep. Hostettler's bill, known as the Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act, is just what America needs. His draft would allow law-abiding citizens who can legally carry in their home state -- even without a permit -- to carry all across the country." ... |

"All this exposition brings me back to my main point about the rule of law and gun-control and police power as caprice power."
"The legal term police power is an ancient concept, one that under girds the primary and most important reason for government, that of the responsibility to promulgate law necessary for the health, morals, safety, and welfare of the populace. ..." ...

"The strange phrase "suspected terrorists with disqualifying factors" appeared yesterday in a government report. And truly frightening it was to read that suspected Al Qaeda types may arm themselves legally at U.S. gun shops - unless they're disqualified from buying weapons for other reasons."
"Thanks to the National Rifle Association, individuals on terror watch lists can buy, say, a semiautomatic or three as long as they're not also convicted felons, illegal immigrants or mentally ill. Only then would they be 'suspected terrorists with disqualifying factors,' as the Government Accountability Office put it so disturbingly." ... -------

Teachers and staff at Gooding Middle School had a lockdown for about 45 minutes Friday after school for what turned out to be a false alarm, Principal Teresa Jones said.
Jones received a call from a parent whose children said they saw a student carrying a gun to the school. The school was locked down while police investigated.
The weapon turned out to be a pistol-shaped BB gun that two students took to shoot fish in a canal. The two students did not enter school grounds and broke no laws or school rules, Jones said.
The police made a perimeter around the school and let teachers leave a few at a time.
"They took it very seriously," Jones said. |

"Police could not give further details Monday about a gun found early last week at a local elementary school. However, Burton School District Interim Superintendent Michael Arndt said the handgun was found March 1 in the Burton Elementary School parking lot at approximately 4:30 to 5 p.m. Initial police reports last week had the gun being found a day earlier. Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson says tomorrow he'll file formal charges against 35-year-old Louisville man Charles Boney, whose DNA was found at the couple's Georgetown home, about 15 miles west of Louisville.
Boney is expected to enter a plea to three charges of murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and being a habitual offender.
He denies any involvement or knowing David Camm, who currently is facing a retrial after his march 2002 conviction was overturned. |

Clayton County police have ruled out the father of Xavier Miranda, 2, as the shooter in the toddler's death last month.
Police Capt. Jeff Turner said Tuesday that tests show Xavier was killed by a bullet from a robber's handgun, either a .25 or .38-caliber, and not by the .45-caliber pistol fired by the boy's father, William Miranda, 22.
Police said an armed man kicked in the front door of the family's Forest Park apartment Feb. 10, held a gun to the child's neck and demanded a recently cashed $1,717 income tax refund check. When someone walked into the room the gunman was distracted and shots were fired.
Detectives think brothers Shawn Berry, 37, and Stacey Berry, 32, have information vital to the case but the pair has failed to surface. |
