Saturday at the monthly meeting of the Shoals Republican Club, State Rep. Andrew Sorrell (R-Muscle Shoals) explained his opposition to a statewide universal database of concealed carry permit holders, an issue now being taken on by lawmakers in Montgomery. Sorrell is a proponent of constitutional carry, an argument that given the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to own and bear arms, an individual should not have to pay the government through the purchase of a permit to exercise that right.

A New Jersey gun owner is fighting charges for carrying a firearm for which he had a permit and ammunition state police have publicly said is legal.
Roosevelt Twyne, a 25-year-old African-American security guard, was arrested by Roselle Park Police in February after a traffic stop stemming from tinted windows on his car. Evan Nappen, Twyne's attorney, told the Washington Free Beacon that his client was then erroneously charged for illegally carrying a firearm and being in possession of so-called hollow point ammunition.
Twyne said he has not been able to work in nearly a month and his life has been turned upside down.
Submitter's note: Can't work and facing probably $5000 in attorney fees. |

Bans on so-called “assault weapons” have no direct impact on mass shootings, concluded the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in a study published in a February issue of the Criminology & Public Policy journal. Researchers looked at fatal mass shootings involving four or more victims in 45 states between 1984 and 2017 and at the firearms laws for those states. Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska and Montana were excluded from the analysis due to “significant gaps in reporting.” Additionally, all murders related to gang or narcotic activity were excluded.

Two unresolved pieces of Gov. Ralph Northam’s gun policy agenda have cleared the Virginia General Assembly as the legislative session nears its end. Legislation to require criminal background checks on all gun sales and restore the state’s former one-handgun-a-month rule won final approval Saturday in the state Senate. Democratic legislators had been negotiating the finer points of the proposals. On both bills, the House of Delegates agreed to more moderate approaches favored by the Senate. |

After a gunman killed 10 people and wounded 13 others at Santa Fe High School in 2018, school district officials will allow some teachers to carry guns on campus — rather than keep them under lock and key. Santa Fe ISD officials announced their plans Friday to implement Texas’ so-called Guardian Plan, which lets local school boards authorize specific employees to carry on campus at all times and determine their training standards. |

Remington designed their 6.8mm Special Purpose Cartridge (SPC) to have improved terminal performance over the 5.56mm NATO, which is the cartridge currently used by the U.S. military. Specifically designed to perform better when fired from carbines and Short Barreled Rifles (SBR), Remington collaborated with special ops troops and the Army Marksmanship Unit to develop the 6.8 SPC. Development began in 2002, and field trials took place in 2004. The military did not adopt the cartridge, but field trials did show an interest in returning to a larger caliber rifle for applications other than sniping. |

The Combat Master belt holster is a professional-grade holster constructed of the top 2% of premium steerhide available in America. The holster is hand-molded by Galco’s experienced craftsmen to fit specific handguns, which now includes the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield EZ 9mm. The holster uses a forward cant for concealment, and the high-riding pancake-style design places the belt slots on either side of the holster. This pulls the handgun tight to the body and makes defensive handguns disappear under even light clothing. The Combat Master for the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield EZ 9mm has an MSRP of $99. |

On February 29th, the West Virginia House of Delegates will be holding second reading on Senate Bill 96 to strengthen West Virginia’s preemption law. Please contact your Delegate and ask them to SUPPORT SB 96. Senate Bill 96 prevents municipalities from restricting a number of tools that law-abiding citizens carry with them every day. Preemption legislation is designed to stop municipalities from creating a patchwork of different laws that turn a law-abiding citizen into a criminal for simply crossing a jurisdictional line. |
