Second Amendment activists across the country should pay close attention to the trial of a Des Moines Register reporter, scheduled to begin Monday, not so much because of the charges, but because of something the newspaper’s executive editor reportedly said that is important about rights.
At the time of her arrest, reporter Andrea Sahouri was covering a protest and clash between demonstrators and police last May 31 at a mall. She had left her press credentials in her car, according to published reports. She was following the protest when she was pepper sprayed and arrested, and faces charges of failure to disperse and “interference with official acts,” according to a report in her newspaper. |

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) warned Monday that Democrats are going to talk a lot about gun control this week but she would prefer to just rely on the Constitution. Her warning came on the start of a week in which House Democrats are poised to take up Whip James Clyburn’s (D-SC) “Charleston Loophole” gun control as well as Rep. Mike Thompson’s (D-CA) universal background check gun control. |

Gov. Kristi Noem is all that stands between South Dakota and a new "Stand Your Ground" law. Second Amendment buffs and firearms advocates are lauding the Legislature for giving final passage Monday to House Bill 1212, which calls for the repeal of South Dakota's century-old self-defense laws with a new statute that mirrors other states where the controversial law is already in effect. |

Gary Marbut is an underappreciated mover and shaker in the movement to restore the right to keep and bear arms in the United States, particularly in Montana. Gary was a primary force in the front lines and behind the scenes, working hard to reform legislation, write legislation, and to keep harmful legislation from being passed. It is doubtful anyone in Montana or in the nation, is more knowledgeable about the state of law, regarding arms, and the people’s right to arms, in Montana than Gary.

President Biden’s nominee to serve as United States Secretary of the Interior, U.S. Representative Deb Haaland (D-NM), is yet another cog Biden hopes to fit into his administration’s anti-gun machine. Perhaps it would be more newsworthy if we only reported on Biden nominees that don’t support gutting the Second Amendment, but then we might have nothing to say. As for Haaland, in her brief stint in Congress, to which she was first elected in 2018, she has made it clear she does not support the right to keep and bear arms. |

The number of National Instant background Check System (NICS) checks done in February of 2021 was another record for the month. The number of NICS done for firearms sales was the second-highest February ever. This shows the expansion of the NICS for uses other than firearms purchases is continuing. To find a close approximation of the number of NICS used for firearm sales in February, we add the number of handgun checks to long gun checks, to 2.5 x multiple checks, plus the other firearms checks. |

The .40 S&W cartridge was developed with two specific goals in mind – to have more stopping power than the 9mm Parabellum, and better handling and manageability than the .45 ACP. With these goals in mind, a team comprised of technicians from Smith & Wesson and Winchester built the .40 S&W cartridge.
The final result from the Smith & Wesson/Winchester team was a rimless, 10x22mm round that housed a .40-inch (10mm) lead bullet weighing between 105 to 200 grain (gr). |

Missouri's House on Monday passed a bill to allow guns on St. Louis buses, the Kansas City Streetcar and other forms of public transit in the state. The GOP-led chamber voted 124-32 to send the bill to the state Senate, which is also led by Republicans. If enacted, the measure would allow people with concealed carry permits to bring firearms on public transportation. Firearms still wouldn't be permitted on Amtrak. |

The breeze had stalled and the heat began to pound at the sweating men in the howdah. Their pith helmets were damp, hot and uncomfortable in the sun. The elephant’s gait jostled as they moved through the jungle trail. Sir Reginald Humphries, British Commanding Officer of Her Majesty’s troops in this part of India, his Batman, Wilkins and their mahout riding on the elephant’s neck were hunting tiger.

We write about the NICS report nearly every month, and have been doing so for quite some time. It’s an important story that needs to be told to reinforce Americans’ embrace of gun rights, but the story is even more interesting when every month brings a new record. Like last month, which reset the record for the month of February, with 3,442,777 total NICS checks.

Mossberg’s Patriot series of rifles has gained a reputation for accuracy, reliability and affordability among American hunters. I used one of the latest additions to the lineup on my Kansas whitetail hunt, the Patriot Predator Cerakote/Strata Camo, chambered in .308 Win. and weighing just 6.5 pounds. The rifle boasts several upgrades from standard Predator rifles. Its synthetic stock is covered in TrueTimber Strata camo, which pairs well with the Patriot Brown Cerakote finish that protects the barrel, oversized bolt handle and receiver from corrosion and wear. The 22-inch free-floated, fluted barrel is fitted with a ⅝x24-inch threaded muzzle. |

Just about everything involved in waterfowling is designed to separate your money from your bank account. It’s a gear-heavy pursuit, with equipment like boats and waders that spend a ton of time partially submerged and subject to any number of hazards. Beaver stumps, branches, and the gnarled roots of long-forgotten trees tear and snag and disrupt. Gasoline, hotels, food, guns, shells, decoys, and licenses all conspire to make every outing cost a little more than you’d planned. That’s to say nothing of the amount of time and thought invested throughout your year—especially in punctuated burst of insanity during season. |
