"The one thing that all of the acts proscribed by those 'reasonable' restrictions have in common is the fact that every one of them constitutes a clear, direct, and provable infringement upon the rights of others. Libel and slander violate one's long standing and universally recognized right to maintain one's good name and reputation. Shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater, when there is no fire, creates a legal fraud. In other words, since our rights only extend to the point where their exercise would begin to infringe upon the rights of another, neither libel, slander, nor falsely shouting 'Fire!' in crowded theater were EVER part of our freedoms of speech or of the press to begin with."

"Here is one example of the far-reaching harmful effects of these bills. Both bills would flatly ban the possession, sale, or use of technologies that 'conceal from a communication service provider ... the existence or place of origin or destination of any communication.' "

"I would advise you, the members of the entertainment industry to remove your collective lips from Mr. Moore’s anus. I would advise you to hold yourselves up to the same high standards as the people who awarded Michael Bellesiles’ fraud 'Arming America' the prestigious Bancroft Award and later rescinded it on the grounds that it was full of lies. But you have never been known for your integrity, Hollywood, so I won’t hold my breath."

" 'Lloyd George banned a book he never read,' Schiff argues. 'The government was claiming this stuff I say is frivolous, that 'He tells people to break the law.' The judge asked 'What book does that?' They said, 'The Federal Mafia.' He said he'd like to see the book. On the counsel table I had all the books I sell, plus five huge volumes of the regulations that execute the Internal Revenue Code, so I gave him the book, which to my knowledge is the first time he ever saw the book.' "

" 'There's a recess, he goes into chambers, he comes back within 10 minutes and basically bans the book. All he did was take the government's representations at face value. ... How can they ban a book without allowing me to cross-examine anyone? Here we are bringing democracy to Iraq and we can ban a book right here at home?' "

"Judge George did not return phone messages last week, asking whether in fact he had read 'The Federal Mafia' before he banned it."

"Always a popular topic in Augusta, the right of citizens to keep and bear arms is again on the legislative agenda, but most of the ideas miss the mark."

"Several bills have been introduced that aim to loosen existing gun-control laws in Maine, but the need for some of these changes is not entirely clear, even to groups that typically champion unfettered gun ownership."

"The most radical idea, proposed by Rep. Michael Vaughan, R-Durham, would allow victims of domestic violence to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, if they complete a gun-safety course. This privilege would not be extended to the public at large."

"The movie has a grip on our psyches unlike any other. It speaks to the fundamental truth that we all inherently accept. Gangsters and government, whether this socialized system that we have installed or the totalitarianism of national socialism or communism, are like two sides of the same coin. One can not exist without the other. They operate under a system of coercion to enforce their wills. That is the nature of all government. Our American system uses fear, no differently from the others and it is arrogant of us to think otherwise just because we elect ours. We are corrupt like the empires of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, the Corleones, Gambinos and our great national fortunes like the Carnegies, Kennedys, Rockefellers and Bushes. Our system's violence while far less pervasive, nevertheless is as complete in the ultimate threat that it holds over us for non-compliance."

"Public health professionals, police and victims continually try to remind us of the costs of gun violence. One study estimated the economic cost of gun violence in Canada at over $6-billion per year. From this perspective, the firearms program is an investment in public safety and not out of line with other public safety initiatives. For example, the federal government is spending almost half a billion dollars to widen a stretch of highway in New Brunswick where 47 people were killed over five years. During the same period over 5,000 people were killed with guns. Dr. Richard Schabas, former Medical Officer of Health for Ontario, said it best: 'Prevention is rarely glamorous. Gun control is no exception. The deaths and injuries prevented don't grab headlines. It is often all too easy for governments to lose sight of the benefits and to see preventive programs as a tempting target for cost-cutting. As the Government of Ontario learned from the Walkerton tragedy, you never stop paying for your 'savings' in 'prevention.' "

"Canada's gun control law is a long-term investment in our security, and one from which we shall reap the benefits for years to come."

-------
Just look at all those benefits being "reaped" in the UK, where the only people armed are the criminals and firearm crimes are nearly a daily occurrence.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the constitution they don't like. — Alan Dershowitz
