"Many of my friends like to say -- and I tend to agree with them -- that the Second Amendment should have been the First Amendment. It is upon the right to keep and bear arms that all our other rights depend. A right that we're not able or allowed to defend is no right at all."
"Throughout my life, I've made a habit of studying the Constitution and trying to understand it. Most especially, I've tried to see it through the eyes of the men who framed it and the men who made it possible. The Bill of Rights didn't happen by accident. It happened by intent. It happened after a successful revolution against the mightiest empire the world had yet known. And those who wrote and ratified the Second Amendment spoke plainly, fully aware of what their words meant..." |

"Constitutional rights came up against public safety yesterday at a public hearing on a bill to do away with the criminal penalty for carrying a loaded, concealed firearm without a license." ...
"The bill’s prime sponsor, Sen. Russell Prescott, R-Kingston, argued people should not have to pay a fee or obtain a license for something that is a constitutional right — the right to bear arms.
" 'It’s a matter of freedom. It’s a matter of removing an unnecessary restriction on freedom,' said Sam Cohen, a director of Gun Owners of New Hampshire, who was representing the national organization KeepAndBearArms.com. "Besides the cursory newspaper articles about how John has hunted since a child (a la Clinton in 1992), John Kerry espouses the belief that there should be reasonable controls placed upon gun ownership and availability. The only issue gun owners may have with this is that every restriction that comes along is reasonable to him. Like Clinton, the 2nd Amendment is about hunting. And like Clinton, he believes he should tell us what is reasonable and what we need."
"John Kerry presents himself as a common man. Inheriting millions and marrying hundreds of millions of dollars, he is anything but common. With all that that money can buy, plus Secret Service protection, it is unlikely that Kerry will ever NEED anything, except votes." |

"The Firearms Investigation Unit in Montgomery County, Maryland, which was established as a pilot program in 2003, is credited with uncovering hundreds of firearms in an April raid, the Frederick County Gazette reported March 24."
------- It's instructive how JTO and the liberal rag that published this report conveniently avoid emphasizing that this story is nearly a year old! This appears to be just another underhanded tactic the gun banners use to make the "threat" of "assault" weapons seem current and relevant.
The story doesn't specify that this "raid" took place in 2003, allowing people's subconscious to gloss over this fact and promoting it as "news." |

"The Bill of Rights is the essence of American freedom. It is what makes us original among the other nations and governments. A cursory reading of the Bill of Rights is enough to bring to mind the bitter taste that was left by the British rule and occupation of the colonies. As the process for rebuilding began, it became more and more apparent that the colonists were in fear of another despotic government and were very wary of providing widespread power to a central government. The Founding Fathers realized that a compromise would be needed before a new form of government could be adopted." |

"Lady Olivia was on the phone from Washington."
"And Sam Seder, a nighttime host on Air America Radio, the fledgling liberal talk-radio network, had a question about the clientele of his guest, who identified herself as a dominatrix."
" 'More Republicans or more Democrats?' Mr. Seder asked."
" 'Seventy-30,' Lady Olivia said.
------ How charming. It's not enough that the media skews liberal on a daily basis. It's not enough that a national survey of the Washington-based media commissioned by the Gannett media organization showed that in 1992, members of the media voted for Bill Clinton over George Bush by 89-7 percent; that by 50-14 percent they see themselves as Democrats over Republicans; and that while 61 percent describe themselves as liberal, only two percent dare claim they are "conservative."
Now there's an entire radio station that will spew nothing but socialist propaganda day in and day out. |

Border family saved by .45 (If guns kill, why can't they save too!)
------- "Upon hearing the urgency in her voice, John went for his .45-caliber sidearm just inside the house (he said he usually carries it all the time for protection, but leaves it inside if he's outside working and believes there may be a chance of knocking it around and having it accidentally discharge). After retrieving it, he immediately went back outside to find Heather, who had already grabbed up their daughter, yelling at him that a coyote – as immigrant smugglers are called – had just dropped off a group of men." ...
"As they approached, John says they could see he was armed. 'I had one hand up waving them off and the other on my weapon,' which was in plain view on his hip, he said. Still, they continued to advance toward him until finally, he says, he began to fear for his own safety."
"Finally, in desperation he says, 'I drew my weapon and laid down several rounds directly in front of the lead man's feet. It was close enough that dirt was hitting him.' But the men kept advancing and it was at that point, he admits, that 'I thought I may have gotten in over my head.' " |

Lawyers for the University of Utah are exploring the school's options in light of a new gun rights law that prevents public college campuses from banishing concealed weapons.
Board of Trustees member Jake Garn, a former US senator, says he believes guns should stay out of college dorms.
The bill's sponsor, Senator Michael Waddoups, has said he would consider banning guns from dorms if it can be shown that the residences need the same protection currently offered at courts and airports.
School district leaders have opposed bringing guns into schools. Under the new law, only private schools will be allowed to ban them from campuses.

------- And how many criminals get their guns at gun shows? Less than 2 percent? Hmmmm? And why would that be? Maybe because the "loophole" exists only in the minds of frothing enemies of freedom! |

"Those who plan to apply for concealed weapons permits should expect a wait when turning in the applications."
"Ottawa County Sheriff Craig Emahiser said permit applicants will be held up with paperwork at least a half hour when they turn in their applications at the sheriff's office."
"The permit processing will include taking a picture and fingerprinting the applicant, the sheriff said. So, 'Don't show up when the office closes at 4:30 p.m. and expect to get the paperwork done.' " |

"We are going back to Washington because we are so opposed to assault weapons. We are saying to Congress, 'halt the assault,' says Shirley Lamson, a grandmother who decided to start a Cape Cod chapter of the Million Mom March after reading an article about Donna Dees Thomases, a mother who talked with others about the easy access children have to guns."
"Lamson says the mothers also are worried that the NRA supports legislation in some states that would permit people to carry concealed weapons."
------- Yeah, God forbid mothers be able to defend their children with the most effective tool available! We can't have that.

"Carrying a loaded handgun through airport security screening might not get you into as much trouble as you'd expect."
"A Utah businessman who told police he forgot about the loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol in his valise walked away from security at Denver International Airport on Friday without being charged."
"Colorado law says a person must have intended to carry a gun through security to face a felony. That makes it difficult to bring charges when the person maintains it was inadvertent." |

"The international club for the New Age gunmen, Single Action Shooters Society, is going strong with over 54,000 members. 'That's like the mother of all clubs,' Kaucky said. According to the official website, the society was made to protect its members' Second Amendment rights, as well as preserving the history of the Old West."
"Within the main society are branches of local clubs. There are several branches in Nevada. The shooters in Amargosa Valley and Pahrump combined to form Pahrump Cowboy Action Shooters Association." |

"To my left, carrying a borrowed over-and-under 12-gauge, was Kayne Robinson, president of the National Rifle Association and ardent bird hunter."
"On my right was David Keene, NRA board member and well-known Washington D.C. lobbyist, who had flown in from Honolulu the day before to join Robinson for the morning pheasant hunt."
"Filling in the gaps among us were Milford Hills Hunt Club co-owners Dan and Lloyd Marks, hosts for the morning's activities, which included a warm-up round of Sporting Clays before the actual hunt began." |

"The Illinois attorney general says the Legislature and governor are wrong to consider allowing 18-year-olds to get a firearm owner I.D. card without parental permission." ...
"Attorney General Lisa Madigan fears kids would get a FOID card and take those guns into school. Madigan said persons must be 21 to wager on a riverboat; why would lawmakers gamble with legislation allowing them to buy guns at age 18 or older."
------- So an 18 year old can die defending your freedoms in a foreign land, but not responsible enough to defend himself from the criminals you and your incompetent bureaucrats can't seem to keep off the streets, Ms. Madigan? |

After embracing a controversial plan to allow older teens to get a state gun permit without parental consent, Gov. Blagojevich on Tuesday threatened to scuttle the proposal unless the Legislature also bans semiautomatic weapons.
Attempting to walk a political tightrope on guns, Blagojevich also tempered his position on a plan to allow ex-police officers and former military police personnel to carry concealed weapons -- pending legislation Blagojevich vowed over the weekend to veto despite strong support from police unions.
Now, Blagojevich said he could support that concept so long as it applies only to retired cops.
------- In other words, Blagojevich is an elitist tyrant who wants 18 year olds who choose to exercise their rights treated like criminals and cops and retired cops treated like the privileged class. |

"58-year-old criminal Lewis Moran was ambushed at his regular drinking hole in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick. The pokies club was a favourite haunt for the underworld family patriarch."
"An associate who was with him last night was shot in the chest and is recovering in hospital. Moran's name was high on Melbourne's gangland hit-list, and already both his sons had been gunned down."
"Despite this he had refused police protection. Melbourne's gangland killings began as a fight over drug territory but appear to have become a bloody vendetta. Lewis Moran's murder comes just eight days after one of his underworld rivals, Andrew 'Benji' Veniamin, was shot dead."
------- What happened to all that gun control that was supposed to stop the violence? |
