We saw two horrific examples of mass murder in the last few weeks. As usual, the initial news reports were wildly wrong. The news reports deliberately failed to mention how the existing 20 thousand firearms regulations again failed to protect innocent people from violent attacks. Despite the shocking failure of gun-control laws, Democrat politicians called for more of the same.
Unfortunately, the media and politicians are now part of the disease rather than being part of the cure to reduce mass public violence in the United States. |

A coalition of gun ownership groupsand three Wayne County residentsfiled suit last week against Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett, alleging Michigan's largest county is slow in processing concealed pistol license applications and renewals, even by pandemic standards.
CPL applicants in Wayne County have been faced with long waits of a year or more for an appointment, advocates say.
"We want the court to order the clerk to do her job," said Terry Johnson, a Detroit-based attorney for Michigan Open Carry, Inc., one of the groups bringing the suit. "The clerk hasn't stopped doing the functions required by her job, except for the processing of CPLs."

A Fairbanks man stopped an attempted robbery at a gas station by pointing his gun at the suspect and holding him until law enforcement arrived, authorities said.
Nick Moore said he was standing in line Friday at a Holiday store with his breakfast and energy drink when a teen walked in with a knife.
“I kind of backed up a little bit to see what he was going to do, but I kind of already had an inkling in my mind of what was going to happen,” Moore told Fairbanks television station KTVF.
His suspicion turned out to be correct; the teen told employees he was robbing the store.
“I put my stuff on the counter, snuck out the door, ran to my car, grabbed my pistol and came back up to the door,” Moore said.

Semi-automatic pistols seem to be firmly entrenched as king in the defensive handgun market these days. They certainly do dominate, especially as the number of models designed for comfortable concealment continues to grow. Some folks may go so far as to say the defensive revolver has gone the way of the Dodo, but that would be an incorrect assumption. Wheelguns continue to have a quiet but loyal following among modern handgun owners—and for good reasons. |

Modern lever-action shotguns like the Black Aces Pro Series L are few and far between, with pump-action models more prevalent. The reason for this, though, has far more to do with marketing than engineering.

The court has 129 petitions scheduled for review at its next conference, to be held on Thursday. The court will likely be paying special attention to two of them, which are this week’s new relists. The court will be considering them for the second time.
In District of Columbia v. Heller, the court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess firearms at home. Heller left unresolved the extent of Second Amendment protections outside the home. In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Corlett, 20-843, Robert Nash and Brandon Koch applied for New York licenses to carry firearms outside the home. |

Adopting universal background checks for gun purchases would not prevent any legally qualified American from purchasing or owning a gun. Nor would giving the FBI more time to investigate instances when would-be gun buyers are flagged in the background-check system. |

You mentioned several countries that enacted strict gun laws, but you did not include murder statistics from those countries. You could have included Mozambique, where over 100 defenseless citizens were slaughtered last week. Or you may have mentioned Chicago, with the most strict gun laws in the U.S., where 4,033 shootings took place last year, to include 875 murders. Would you seriously feel safer in a city with those statistics, under the most strict gun laws in the country? |

The en banc Ninth Circuit last week held that the Second Amendment does not extend to open public firearm carriage. The new in Young v. State of Hawaii complements the Circuit's en banc from five years earlier, Peruta v. San Diego, which held that concealed carry is outside the Second Amendment. According to the Ninth Circuit, carrying arms in public for defense is "not within the scope of the right protected by the Second Amendment." |

A few more Maine towns this month have declared themselves to be Second Amendment sanctuaries, following a trend in which pro-gun advocates are hoping to fend off possible gun control measures from Congress and the state Legislature.
In the past month, boards of selectmen in Harrington and Princeton have signed similarly worded resolutions expressing support for their constitutional rights to bear firearms and opposition to any laws that they say would infringe upon those rights. |

A measure that would prohibit state and local law enforcement officials in Montana from enforcing federal bans on firearms, ammunition and magazines is nearing passage in the state Legislature just a week after President Joe Biden urged Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
The Republican-controlled Senate voted Wednesday 30-20 in favor of the measure. They are set to vote on the bill for a third and final time this week before the bill heads to the desk of Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte, who has not commented on whether he would sign the bill into law. |

The West Virginia Senate has adopted a proposed constitutional amendment that would prevent counties and municipalities from passing legislation concerning firearms, ammunition or accessories that conflicts with or is more restrictive than state law.

Yesterday, the General Assembly adjourned sine die from its 2021 legislative session. During this session, the House passed House Bill 175 to prohibit financial institutions from discriminating against firearm businesses. Unfortunately, the Senate did not take action on this critical bill, resulting in it failing to pass this year.
As a small victory for the preservation of constitutional rights, Senate Bill 229 did not move along the legislative process at all. This “guilty until proven innocent” scheme would have allowed the seizure of an individual’s property and a suspension of their Second Amendment rights, based on accusations and without a hearing or other opportunity for them to be heard in court. |

A man who killed someone who was trying to rob him during the widespread mayhem in Chicago over the death of George Floyd last summer won’t face criminal charges, police said Tuesday.
A Chicago Police Department spokesman said the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office last week rejected charges against the man after determining he acted in self defense. A spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. |

We do not live in a lawless frontier, but you can’t tell that from the actions of Gov. Bill Lee or the Tennessee General Assembly.
Gov. Lee is pushing legislation, which has already passed in the Senate and in the House, that would allow anyone over 21 to pack a pistol, anywhere, anytime. Senate Bill 765/House Bill 786 allows permitless carrying of handguns for anyone over age 21, and for military personnel between 18 and 20.
According to police and some local officials across Tennessee, this is a bad idea. |

After this last election it looks like “Uncle Joe” and his socialist minions are in full control of the country. Like the biblical dog returning to it’s vomit, they are again revisiting extreme gun control and other devious methods of citizen control for our country.
One of the agenda items, again, is magazine capacity. As if those actual shooters with evil in their hearts are incapable of learning how to accomplish tactical reloads. Or, for the common folks, quickly switching an empty magazine for a full one to continue their carnage. Again, a law that only the law-abiding citizens will obey. |

Faced with 2,000 petition signatures and threats to retaliate at the polls, the Idaho County commissioners Tuesday declined demands that they immediately adopt a resolution declaring Idaho County a Second Amendment sanctuary county.
After an hourlong hearing in which nearly 50 people were packed into the commissioners’ meeting room, Commissioner Denis Duman said the board would take the petition and the request for a Second Amendment resolution under advisement.
The crowd was not happy about that. |

Alabama lawmakers have not passed a single piece of pro-gun legislation in six years. Other states are enthusiastically passing a variety of bills to protect and advance Second Amendment rights for the benefit of law-abiding citizens. Just this year, legislatures in Montana, Tennessee, Iowa, and Utah have passed constitutional/permitless carry bills. Recently, Georgia passed a bill to recognize carry permits from all states, and to also ensure that Second Amendment rights remain protected during a state of emergency. |
