A gun shop here is going national with its fight against the federal government.
Ryan Horsley's family-run gun store, Red's Trading Post, is possibly the oldest gun shop in Idaho. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stripped Red's of its license March 5. A federal judge upheld ATF's decision last week.
Submitter's Note: The incressed[sic] numbers of gun shops being closed down by ATF is criminal. Now let's see if our lawmakers in DC have the guts to put the clamps on an out of control government agency. |

TROY, Michigan - A former accounting firm employee is suspected of shooting three people at the firm's offices Monday, killing one of them, officials said. Three hours after the attack, police believed they had the suspect in custody following a car chase.
Submitters Comment: If only one employee had been carrying a firearm at work, this may have had a better ending. |

"...textual analysis of the Second Amendment supports an individual right to bear arms . . . No similar clause is found in any other amendment..."
"...The right exists independent of the existence of the militia. If this right were not protected, the existence of the militia, and consequently the security of the state, would be jeopardized..."
"...Thus, a textual analysis of the Second Amendment clearly declares a substantive right to bear arms recognized in the people of the United States..."
"...historical examination of the right to bear arms, from English antecedents to the drafting of the Second Amendment, bears proof that the right to bear arms has consistently been, and should still be, construed as an individual right..." |

Lion Rifles, the UA Fort Smith air rifle club team, finished as the 9th best collegiate club team in the country in the collegiate club national rankings released by the National Rifle Association. The rankings were determined by team performances in collegiate sectionals fired all over the country in January and February, with the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith club team competing in the sectional at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. “Our students overcame a lot and performed well under pressure,” said Roy Hill, Lion Rifles coach. “We lost two good shooters from the fall semester, but the rest of the team really rose to the occasion.” |

Twenty-four years ago, Sgt. Roy Cheeks helped start Rhea County High School's first Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps rifle team. On April 28 this year's rifle team would like to help him celebrate his retirement with another state championship. Since the rifle team's founding in 1983, it has excelled, winning many state and regional competitions, so many, in fact, that many of them must be kept in storage because there is no room in the display case. The RCHS rifle team has lost only one match in the past two years, Cheek announced proudly. The team practices every Monday afternoon and two or three afternoons a week during the competition season. |

Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the "rabid, rabid Republican" who owns property across the street from her Orange County home -- and she doesn't want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.
Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way near his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.
"I wouldn't be nice to him, anyway," Edwards said in an interview. "I don't want my kids anywhere near some guy who, when he doesn't like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out. It scares the business out of me." |

Gun owners have been learning a great deal in recent weeks about the anti-gun record of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is currently polling as the front-runner among announced GOP presidential-hopefuls. Less attention has been given to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. But gun owners will ignore Romney at their own peril.
Few people outside of Massacheusetts are familiar with Romney. As such, he is trying to take advantage of the opportunity, much like Bill Clinton did in the early 1990s, to craft an image for himself that is most likely to draw votes in his party's primary.
But, as the saying goes, the truth will out. When it comes to Romney's record on guns, the truth is he is far from being what he now claims. |

"It's always better to have a gun to protect yourself, just in case," Haryah said.
Though he acknowledged that it is a constitutional right for a merchant to bear arms, Eanes would rather such confrontations be avoided.
"If a person comes in and it's a robbery, and (the suspect) is armed, and you have a firearm, there's a potential for that person to become apprehensive or antsy," Eanes said. "We don't ever want people to have a 'John Wayne syndrome'- I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it. Just give them what they want and let them go. It's not worth it." |

“I have had a permit to carry a weapon in Virginia for a long time,” he told reporters at the March 27 press conference, “…and if you look at people in the executive branch, look at the number of people who are defending the President and other members of the executive branch, there is not that kind of protection available to people in the legislative branch. We are required to defend ourselves, and I choose to do so.” |

First up, lethal self defense. Imagine a situation where an armed assailant breaks into the home of a properly-armed, 2nd amendment loving citizen and his/her family. The assailant begins swinging his weapon about and going after whatever it is that brought him to this residence (robbery, a sex crime, the pleasure of doing violence to innocent people, etc.) when said armed citizen shoots at him twice. The first shot misses him, but the second one hits him square in the chest and neutralizes him as a threat |

"...The absolute stupidity with which hoplophobes approach the issue of keep and bear arms is well known. They treat the gun as the source of evil, instead of the scum that wields it and hurts others with it. They treat freedom and the absolute right to defend yourself and your nation as nothing more than a government-granted privilege. But this... this is just beyond the pale." |
