The Oregon Firearms Federation (OFF) has called on state Senate Republicans to walk out in a Hail Mary move to stop Senate Bill 978, a sweeping gun control measure that, according to gun rights advocates, has a lot of problems for Beaver State gun owners.
“Virtually all Democrats support this bill,” OFF says on its website. “There is one tool to stop it. The Senate Republicans have to take a courageous stand, and WALK OUT.” |

A suspected home intruder was fatally shot in the head in Houston on Tuesday while trying to escape with two other culprits, police said.
Shortly after arriving at his southwest Houston home, a father was pistol-whipped by three suspects who had forced him to open the door, police said.
When the father’s wife and son arrived home, the suspects fled, the report said. As they were fleeing, the son retrieved a gun and shot one of the suspects in the head, reports said.
Submitter's note: It's good this happened in Texas and not NY or NJ. Victims have much more leeway to shoot a fleeing felon than almost any other state.

An attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old Phoenix girl on the way to school was scuttled when a witness intervened, knocked down the suspect and threatened him with a handgun, police said in a Monday report.
The unidentified suspect allegedly grabbed the girl as she walked, took her arm and placed it behind her back and then covered her face with his own arm in an April 3 incident.
Noting the situation, a witness reportedly knocked the man to the ground and told him to leave the girl alone. He then pointed the gun at the suspect and demanded he leave, Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix police said, according to Fox 10. |

It is often said that before the Civil War, the United States “are,” but after the War, the United States “is.” This is a reference to the formerly theoretically sovereign nature of each state as compared to “one nation, indivisible.”
More than just the theoretic sovereignty of the individual states, the territory now comprising the U.S. has a rich history of sovereign states outside the control of the federal government. Some of these you’ve almost certainly heard of, but a lot of them are quite obscure. Each points toward a potential American secession of the future. |

The NDSU Marksmanship Club air rifle and smallbore rifle teams traveled over 1,800 miles by van down to compete in the 2019 National Collegiate Championship Rifle Matches, hosted by the US Army Marksmanship Unit at their ranges in Ft. Benning, GA on March 23 & 24, 2019.
The 10 top Club teams from around the nation fired these matches.
Individually, Brandon Alexander won the overall championship with his combined score of 1151, fully 9 points ahead of the second place finisher. The tournament awards included recognition of the 1st Club Team All American Team and individuals determined by their scores in this match plus their scores in the Sectional championship |

In discussions regarding concealed carry, I often encounter interesting assumptions about whether full metal jacket (FMJ) or its close equivalent, total synthetic jacket (TSJ) ammunition is preferable for daily carry compared to jacketed hollow point (JHP or simply HP).
This article aims to inform readers on the performance of these major ammo types in lay terms, and hopefully put minds at ease about ammunition selection. |

The Castle Doctrine allows deadly force if someone comes into your home or a car you are in and if you fear serious bodily harm from that person. The law is designed to protect those who defend themselves in that situation.
Louisville Attorney Tom Clay, who’s not involved in the Elizabethtown case, saw the surveillance video and says he believes it speaks for itself.
“The video certainly should have been taken into consideration in any charging decision,” Clay said.
He said when he saw the gas station surveillance video, he was pretty certain he was witnessing something to which the Castle Doctrine would apply. Clay said it also appears police got it wrong when they charged Fort Knox Sgt. Kai Waters, 33, with felony assault. |

A medical assistant originally charged with murdering her boyfriend has been spared time behind bars after admitting she killed him in self-defense.
Stephanie Dawn Payan, 43, "is a survivor. She is not a criminal," her attorneys argued in court documents. They contend she is a caring mother who fired one shot out of fear in August 2017, killing Guy Wells Mecham after he repeatedly threatened violence and shoved her.
Prosecutors accused Payan of shooting Mecham in the back, in part out of anger, as he left his Duchesne house, but her attorneys said it's not clear he was leaving. He might have tried to retrieve a gun from his truck and hurt her or her teenage daughter, they argued. |

On April 9th 2019, the Oregon state Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve Senate Bill 978 with the -5 Amendment. This legislation is an omnibus gun control package that, among other things, would require firearms be kept unavailable for self-defense and would also expand gun free zones where law-abiding individuals would be left defenseless. I tend to think that we’re not far away from a time when the “normal” configuration for a carry pistol will include a red dot sight. Just like crotchety old cowpokes and saloon residents back in the day when rifle scopes were fragile, unreliable, and always having the batteries run out, the pistol optics naysayers are running out of excuses today. Modern pistol optics are more durable than ever, light, compact, and run for 75% of forever on a single battery change. |

When I was getting in all the pieces for the project gun builds for a new book, there were a lot of boxes. In the course of unboxing and then organizing the collections into their own plastic bins, I would hold up each part and describe it to a son with respect to its utility and, since it almost always applied, why I chose it and how it was better and how it was made and what it was made of, and then my son stopped me: DAD. You don’t really like guns. You like PARTS!
And he caught me. I guess that’s true. That, however, and with no doubt at all, is why I specifically like AR-15s. They are the sum of their parts, and those parts can be truly captivating. |

The National Rifle Association and its supporters wasted no time Tuesday suing Pittsburgh, the City Council and Mayor Bill Peduto following the mayor’s signing of three bills restricting military-style weapons within city limits.
Four city residents with assistance from the NRA filed the lawsuit in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, less than three hours after the mayor signed the gun ordinances into law. Other local gun owners vowed to file criminal charges on Friday against the mayor and council. |

Don Spencer, president of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association, or OK2A, said he knows Hubbard and that he thinks police overreached in how they handled the situation. Spencer said he doesn’t believe that Hubbard would point a gun at someone.
“I would find that completely inconsistent with his character,” Spencer said. “There’s just no way he would do such a thing. He was in legal, constitutional possession of a firearm, legally carrying it. It would appear the Broken Arrow Police Department has completely overreacted to a peaceful act.” |

Now that Missouri has a Republican governor, that state’s legislative body is trying again to pass its “Second Amendment Protection Act,” legislation that would nullify most federal gun-control legislation. Last week, a Missouri Senate Committee held a hearing on that bill that would ban any person in the state, including any public official or employee of the state, from attempting to enforce any “acts, laws, executive orders, administrative orders, court orders, rules or regulations” that infringe on the right of Missourians to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment. |

Following his stepson's death, Boquist teamed up with Salem's leading gun control advocate, Senate Majority Leader Ginny Burdick (D-Portland), to pass Senate Bill 941, which is what's called an "extreme risk protection order," or ERPO, law. The law allows a judge to order that guns be taken away from persons deemed an immediate threat to themselves or others. The bill squeaked through in the final hours of the 2017 session.
For Burdick, the law marked a big win after years of gun control advocacy. Second Amendment advocates, however, labeled Boquist a traitor. The Oregon Firearms Federation called him a "mercenary whose fortune is soaked in blood," called the bill "outrageous" and suggested he switch parties. |
