Last night, the Maryland General Assembly adjourned sine die from its 2022 legislative session. During this session, they continued Maryland’s attacks on Second Amendment rights by passing two more anti-gun bills. Senate Bill 387, to ban Marylanders from manufacturing their own firearms for personal use, became law without Governor Larry Hogan’s signature. Gov. Hogan vetoed House Bill 1021, to impose unreasonable burdens on gun stores and drive them out of business, but the General Assembly then overrode the veto.

Rising crime rates continue to remind Americans that they are their own first responder when it comes to their personal safety. Police work hard to protect communities but can’t be at all places at all times. That reality gained newfound importance at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. |

So now such violent rhetoric is often seen as de rigueur in MAGA circles, instead of dangerously irresponsible. Enter Pastor Greg Locke, a prominent MAGA preacher who appears to believe literal witches have infiltrated his church. Not only has he fought tooth and nail to stop COVID-19 from affecting his flock (sorry, I meant “COVID-19 regulations”; he’s a huge fan of the virus itself), he’s apparently willing to spill blood on top of the barrels of freedom phlegm he’s already oozed out into the wider world.

Today, Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 319, constitutional carry, into law. Georgia is now the 25th constitutional carry state, and the fourth to join that group in 2022. Half of the country now recognizes the right of a law-abiding adult who is legally allowed to carry a concealed firearm, to do so without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have the right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. Constitutional carry goes into effect immediately. |

Things are not always as they seem. President Biden said guns are causing crime. The President needs an excuse for the increase in crime while he has been in office. I have to wonder why guns didn’t cause crime before Joe Biden took office but are causing crime now, particularly in Democrat-controlled cities. This recent surge in violence isn’t a surprise to anyone but confirmed Democrats. The President needs to blame guns to distract us from his failed political decisions. Here is some perspective that the President hid from us.. or maybe he just forgot.

Teaching folks to defend themselves with a firearm goes way beyond the mechanics of shooting. And, while I’m not a lawyer and don’t have expertise in the details of the law in every jurisdiction, I also teach general principles of self-defense.
Sadly, some people have a poor understanding of the legal issues related to the use of deadly force or have fallen prey to myths and urban legends. Here are some of them, with advice – my opinion- on how they should be handled.

There were recently horrible mass shootings in Sacramento, California, and Dallas, Texas. Immediately, there were hysterical cries about “gun controls” and the need to put further limits on Second Amendment rights. There have been too many senseless shootings at the hands of people using firearms. |

While we may think of other models first — like their industry standard 10/22, Mark IV rimfires or the popular Vaquero series — Ruger is no stranger to Africa and African rifles. Founder Bill Ruger took Africa’s vaunted Big Five in the late 1950s on safari in Kenya where he met Charles Askins, Jr., and spent time with George Adamson of Born Free fame, from whom he even purchased a few rifles.

Sen. Tom Brewer's "constitutional carry" gun rights bill, which would have allowed Nebraskans to carry concealed weapons without a permit or currently required gun safety training, was trapped on the floor of the Legislature Monday and removed from further consideration. The bill encountered a filibuster led by Sen. Adam Morfeld of Lincoln when it appeared on the agenda for second-stage debate and a subsequent motion to invoke cloture, the procedure required to end debate, fell two votes short of the required number of 33, failing on a 31-9 vote. |

In the early morning hours of April 3, shooting erupted near the corner of 10th and K Street in downtown Sacramento, Calif. The shooting resulted in the tragic deaths of six people and the wounding of 12 others. Police are still investigating at press time, but the facts suggest multiple shooters were involved in the incident and that the shooting shared characteristics more in common with general street violence than the type of indiscriminate crimes typically used to promote gun control efforts.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ proposed rule that would regulate untraceable firearms known as ghost guns. “I support the Biden administration’s actions to ban untraceable firearms. Ghost guns have become the weapon of choice for criminals because they provide anonymity for the shooter and can be obtained without a background check – they have no business on our streets.

With the ever-increasing demand for polymer-framed striker-fired handguns a wide variety of new companies have decided to dive into the market and see if they can grab a slice of the pie. BRG is a perfect example of this, except they took a different approach. Instead of going toe to toe with juggernauts like Glock, Sig Sauer, Walther and others, BRG brought to market their BRG-9 Elite, which has an MSRP of under $400 dollars. |
