"Seattle has been buzzing with talk about the gruesome murders on Capitol Hill perpetrated by Kyle Huff. Commentary from law-enforcement officials and opinion writers attacks Washington state's liberal firearms laws."

"'Not adequately restricting people from acquiring guns,' the argument goes, 'causes incidents like this one.' To the casual observer, this appears true and is adequate reason to ban firearms."

"But beyond casual observation, things are not so simple. In order to consider this issue, we have to accept a couple of facts:"

"First, guns are not going anywhere. ..."

"Second, no law will prevent people from breaking the law. ..."

"Third, crimes occur regardless of means. ..." ...

"CNN has some interesting video as well as a .pdf transcript from the flight voice recorder on United Air Lines Flight 93, the plane which crashed in a Pennsylvania field on 9/11. Obviously, this pertains to the ongoing trial of Zacarias Moussaoui, where the government just rested its case."

"40 brave people died in that crash. Reading the transcript reminded me that this entire incident could have been avoided if the government hadn’t stripped us of our right to self-defense while on an airplane." ...

"It's rather paradoxical that the rifle known as 'the gun that won the West' is actually one of the most popular whitetail deer guns of all time. Whitetail, you see, is a species of deer commonly found in the Eastern states."

"So when the U.S. Repeating Arms Company - maker of the Winchester Model 94 lever-action rifle - announced it was closing the doors to its New Haven, Conn., plant on March 31 after fabricating rifles and shotguns for 140 years, there wasn't much fanfare, at least out here in the West." ...

Three men, two armed with firearms, entered the beer garden of a hotel on Parramatta Road, at Burwood, in Sydney's west, about 11.30pm (AEST) yesterday and threatened a security guard before patrons were ushered inside the pub.

Once inside, one of the armed men watched the patrons while the other two men went behind the bar and removed a sum of cash.

As the three offenders left the premises, a shot was fired into the ceiling before they jumped a back fence and fled the scene.

Nobody was injured.
