“You can’t own a bazooka, you can’t own a tank. You can’t own rocket-propelled grenades. We should put some limits in place and I think the American people are with me. I’m no longer intimidated by the NRA. The moms and the kids, they are behind us on this issue, and I think it just takes leadership in Washington,” he concluded. The California Democrat formally announced he was running for office last week on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” His announcement heavily featured his push on reforming gun rights nationwide.

Anti-gun activists seeking to infringe on our Second Amendment rights fail to realize that social media platforms such as Facebook have become marketplaces where criminals illegally buy, sell and trade firearms. While law-abiding gun customers purchase firearms from legitimate gun sellers and obey rules, others with deviant ways of thinking use social-media platforms to hawk weapons to criminals and other suspicious individuals. |

Just as the character Newly, in the TV Western series Gunsmoke, was the town gunsmith (turned deputy) in Dodge City during the settlement of the Old West, Ken Pacheco has been plying the same trade in the Dartmouth area for more than four decades. At one time, every town had at least one gunsmith, but Pacheco now is one of the few remaining full-service gunsmiths in the SouthCoast. He operates as The Village Gunsmith at 21R College Lane in Dartmouth, in a rustic shop behind his home, which also features new and pre-owned firearms, parts, accessories and ammunition.

Oklahoma lawmakers have introduced a bill that would allow school districts to have the choice of arming teachers. House Bill 2336 would allow school personnel with a valid gun license to carry a firearm on school property, a proposal education groups are speaking out against. Oklahoma Educators Association officials said the bill would water down the requirements for those who can and can't carry guns in schools and that they prefer how things are now.

Believe the hype. This is the first truly innovative pistol design in over 30 years, with the potential to advance the evolution of handguns as we know them. Mighty big talk for a one-eyed fat man? Not when you can back it up. This isn’t the first firearm Jan Lucansky, founder of Laugo Arms, has designed. After serving as a volunteer for the Croat HVO militia in the Bosnian conflict, he returned to his native Slovakia with a desire to make a submachine gun. So he did. That gun caught the attention of Czech manufacturer, CZ, who bought the rights to it and placed it into their catalog as the Scorpion — the rest, as they say, is history. |

Spring gobbler hunters are many things: tough, dedicated, stealthy, astute, but mostly they're bold-faced liars. When your boots hit the woods in the spring looking for a gobbler, you're out there telling every fib you can. While targeting all of the Tom turkeys within earshot, you're saying that you've got a girl for him and you hope he's dying to meet her. |

Legislation titled A02686A /S02450A was recently passed both the state Assembly and Senate, and it awaits Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signature. As written, this bill will effectively outlaw all youth shooting activities, competitions and training for those individuals younger than 16 who are not hunting. The second portion of the law prohibits the owner of a firearm from knowingly allowing any person younger than 16 to have access to their firearms unless the firearm is in their “immediate possession or control” outside of the home, unless said youth has a hunting license and is hunting.

The following relates to a relatively minor issue. You may think that’s fiddling while Rome burns and maybe it is. But then I’ve long felt that fiddling while Rome burns gets too much of a bad press. I mean, precisely what was the emperor Nero supposed to do while Rome burned? The implication is help put the fire out, but that would be pretty hands-on for a head of state. I’m not sure he’d have been much use, even if he wasn’t exactly like Peter Ustinov playing Nero in Quo Vadis.

“If we can’t do it legally, let’s just find another way.” That seems to be the motto that gun grabbers choose to live by. After years of having their efforts to ban firearms legislatively thwarted, they have moved to another arena, where financial pressure is the top strategy in the playbook. First, we’ve seen in by upstart chief executive officers—like Edward Stack of Dick’s Clothing and Sporting Goods—want only make business decisions based on nothing but their own beliefs. Now, we’re seeing the gun control crowd go further, working diligently to hit gun companies in the wallet on the financial markets.
