"...being a member of the minority party is no fun for a politician. Your bills usually go nowhere. ..."

"This is why Republican officeholders, especially those in leadership positions, make serious compromises, sometimes highly questionable ones, in order to be the majority party and control the key leadership positions. For example, this is the primary reason why the Republican leaders who dish out campaign funds to Republican candidates frequently support squishy, RINO candidates over solidly conservative candidates."

National Federation of Republican Assemblies conducting a survey:

"Would you feel more secure knowing that your airline pilot was armed to prevent a Hijacking?"

You are given a simple yes/no choice. As of 5:30 pm EST, the votes were overwhelmingly in the "yes" corner. 94.74 percent of respondents say they would feel more secure with armed pilots.

And they had to run a survey to confirm that blatantly obvious fact?

Judge Weinstein shepherds gun lawsuit (Blog)

"As if to confirm this website's worst fears (Mar. 31, 2003 and Mar. 24, 2003), federal Judge Jack Weinstein of the Eastern District of New York is permitting the City of New York to proceed with a "public nuisance" suit against the gun industry. If that theory sounds eerily familiar, it is because a Manhattan appellate state court threw out an essentially identical public nuisance lawsuit by the state of New York against the gun industry in the Sturm, Ruger case, noting that New York state law did not countenance such attenuated theories of liability (Jun. 30 and Jul. 4). The district court opinion is a marvelous example of how an unprecedented theory of liability lifts itself up by the bootstraps: the decision relies heavily on Judge Weinstein's previous opinions and the Ninth Circuit's unreasoned Ileto v. Glock decision (Dec. 3 and Nov. 20); while claiming that Sturm, Ruger supports it, the decision ignores language (and related precedent) in that opinion that would preclude the City's theory of liability."

last letter on page

The April 12 story, "Minneapolis woman shot dead; another suspected," was sadly familiar: One woman dead; another injured, allegedly by the same group of people who killed 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards.

Guns make it so easy to kill — whether the person being killed was the intended target or an innocent child, sitting in her dining room doing homework.

Each year, some 30,000 Americans die in gun violence. All the guns, and all the gun deaths, don't make us safer. That's why we Million Moms will once again march in Washington, D.C., on Mother's Day.

We need to send a message that we want an end to the guns that are killing too many people — and making even more people feel unsafe in their homes and neighborhoods.

The City of Warren proposes an ordinance, to ban concealed weapons from its city parks. The measure comes just days after Ohio's new law took effect.

City Council discussed the measure last night. Putting the ordinance into effect will be challenging because banning concealed weapons from certain areas is prohibited by the new state law.

Fonce says making changes to the wording of the law is worth it - since this would make people safer in the parks.

-------
Correction: it will make criminals safer in the parks, as they won't have to worry about being shot by disarmed prey.
