"On Wednesday, when America marks the April 16 anniversary of the Virginia Tech tragedy, the anti-gun-rights lobby will stage so-called "Lie-Ins" for the purpose of 'lyin' to the American public about how to prevent such crimes,' the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."
"Seung Hui Cho murdered 32 students and teachers who could not defend themselves because Virginia Tech and hundreds of other college and university campuses are "gun-free zones" where law-abiding students and faculty have been legislatively or administratively disarmed and deliberately left defenseless." ... |

"On Wednesday, April 16, gun control and anti self defense organizations are planning a series of protests around the nation to commemorate the one year anniversary of the mass murders at Virginia Tech. Remember? This was a likely preventable tragedy, had university administrators not openly scoffed at the common-sense proposal to permit students, faculty and staff the means to defend themselves."
"Instead, a man opened fire on students in two locations, killing more than 30. ... Campuses where open thought and discussion are allegedly encouraged are shut down, and reasonable proposals and debate to enable students to protect themselves are dismissed out of hand with no comprehension of the unintended consequences." ... |

The retailer also agreed to run background checks on its employees handling firearms."

"I just don’t get gun lovers or the NRA. Yes, I am aware the second amendment explicitly allows for 'a well regulated militia' and 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms.' Yet, I need to remind people that this right isn't absolute. Recently a column in the Kansan addressed Kansas legalizing silencers, machine guns and sawed off shotguns. I decided to take a peek at kansan.com to see some posted comments. The emotional rebuttals were unrelenting ... Folks went crazy over their 'untouchable' gun rights."

"Mayor Bloomberg's national anti-gun campaign won a big victory at Wal-Mart on Monday - and inserted itself into the presidential race with a new TV ad."
"Surrounded by Republican and Democratic mayors from dozens of cities, Bloomberg announced that Wal-Mart, the country's biggest gun seller, will put tight new controls on firearms sales - including videotaping every purchase - to keep them out of the hands of criminals."
"'This partnership has the potential to set a new standard for gun dealers across the country,' Bloomberg said. 'We want customers and police officers to ask, does this dealer follow the Wal-Mart standard? And if not, why not?'" ... |

"Seven years ago, Keith Moum left college after a semester to join the Army. When he returned from Iraq in 2004, a new law had made it possible for people 23 and older who have undergone the required training to carry a concealed weapon."
"Always a gun rights advocate, Moum obtained his own concealed weapon permit when he turned 23."
"But he still wasn’t satisfied. A computer science student at Columbia College, Moum was unhappy that he couldn’t carry a weapon on campus because the law enacted in 2003 exempts certain locations from concealed carry provisions. Polling places, courthouses, airports, places of worship and schools – including colleges and universities — are on the list." ... |

"If you're buying a handgun, there may soon be a bullet with your name on it, or at least a number on the shell casing."
"That's because lawmakers are poised to mandate that semiautomatic handguns sold in New York be equipped with microstamp technology that marks each cartridge casing."
"Proponents say it would allow police to better match weapons and cartridges. But opponents maintain the technology is unreliable, potentially costly and would not affect stolen and smuggled weapons."
