"In an often-lively debate, advocates for gun-rights told the Ohio Supreme Court yesterday that the state’s ban on carrying concealed handguns infringes on their constitutional right to bear arms."
"The state attorney general’s office countered that the Second Amendment, like the First Amendment right to free speech, is not absolute." ...
" 'It’s not an absolute,' said Supreme Court Justice Maureen O’Connor, an Akron Republican. 'The state, the legislature has the right to regulate that opportunity, that right to bear arms. The defenses that are laid out statutorily are an exercise of the legislative prerogative to regulate the carrying of concealed weapons.' " ... |

"The Ohio Supreme Court could take six months or more to rule on a precedent-setting case challenging Ohio's long-standing ban on concealed weapons."
"That didn't stop several of the justices from criticizing the lawsuit filed by four Cincinnati-area gun owners. They argue a state law that bars the carrying of concealed weapons, except for legitimate reasons, violates their state-constitutional rights to bear arms to defend themselves."
" 'The police, the state, the legislature have the right to regulate the right to bear arms,' Justice Maureen O'Connor said during oral arguments Tuesday. 'It's not an unfettered right.' " ... |

"Then along came the antigun movement, with the help of the liberal media. They have made people think that firearms are an evil and dangerous thing that cause good people to do bad things. All these programs that helped prepare our young with the skills needed to become soldiers and protect our country were slowly done away with, as they were no longer politically correct." |

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands National Peace Council has met the Police Commissioner to discuss issues including the disappearance of collected weapons stored at the Police Armory.
The council's Chairman, Paul Tovua, says it estimates there are around 200 high-powered weapons not accounted for.
Mr. Tovua says the weapons were collected during the weapons amnesty period.
He says gunshots can still be heard in some parts of Honiara, which is evidence that weapons are still at large. |

"I carry openly. I do this for political reasons-the same reason I make it a point to sit in the smoking section at restaurants when I go out to eat by myself, even though I don't smoke. But that's another story. I carry openly, precisely because it invites comment (it shouldn't, but such is the sad state of our society). Some of the comments are good, a few are bad, and many more merely serve educational purposes." |

"There's just one problem: Filmmaker Michael Moore's movies are a sham. They are not documentaries. The fat slob props up a camera and asks embarrassing questions from people he hates. He is his own event. Moore's propaganda films are sloppy interviews, nothing more (the main reason why his earlier film 'Roger and Me' wasn't even nominated). The Academy, desperate to push (its) anti-gun agenda, gave it the Oscar." |

"But riddle me this my fellow Belles; a driver's license is a PRIVILEGE but a firearm license is a RIGHT. Yet, only one of these licenses requires the background check, 3-figure investment and some bizarre need to behave like secret Druids. Why? To operate a far more dangerous, far more frightening and much heavier object like a car, all you need is a face and be of a certain age. (And where I live, the physical challenges of being able to actually see over the steering wheel is a non-issue...but I digress...)"
