... "Seven years ago, this Thursday (April 20), two teenage gunmen massacred 12 students and one teacher at my school, Columbine High in Colorado." ...

"So what exactly has changed as a result of all that despair, discussion and debate?"

"Virtually nothing."

"Colorado and Oregon immediately passed initiatives requiring background checks at gun shows. Today 32 states still do not require background checks on gun purchases at gun shows including Washington."

KABA Note: Which would have changed nothing, since the straw buyer was not a prohibited person.

"The Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired in 1994 and was not renewed, putting guns like Tech-9s [sic] back on the streets."

KABA Note: Which would have changed nothing, since the ban was in effect at the time.

"In 2005 Congress passed and the president signed into law a measure that, astonishingly, provides immunity from prosecution for gun manufacturers and sellers." ...
-------

KABA Note: Ummm, no, it doesn't. It provides immunity from civil lawsuits for law-abiding gun manufacturers and sellers.

"In last month's Firearms Tactics article, the 12 rules for off-duty conduct were explored. This month's article will focus on deploying the full-sized firearm."

"When choosing the off-duty firearm, the tenet 'carry the most effective weapon the wardrobe will allow' should not be taken lightly. Most experts agree the term 'effective weapon' usually refers to guns that fire cartridges generally used in the law enforcement field. Firearms that accurately deliver large, fast, heavy bullets should be considered first." ...

"Where does the federal government get its Constitutional authority to enact laws such as the National Firearms Act, which has been codified to Chapter 44 of Title 18 of the United States Code? Upon whom are such laws operative, and where? Since a careful reading of the Constitution reveals that the federal government has no specifically delegated authority to regulate firearms, from where does the federal government's authority to regulate firearms come?" ...

"Shrapnel rained down on James Aguilar as he furiously shoveled a foxhole in the woods of northern France." ...

"Clunk. His shovel hit something hard. Aguilar unearthed a strange package, quickly tossing it aside. It spilled open to reveal the dull gleam of a muzzle."

"Forgetting the bomb blasts for just a second, Aguilar pocketed a gun unlike any he'd seen before."

"Sixty-two years later, Aguilar sits in the living room of his east Stockton home and holds the diminutive weapon in the palm of his hand. And it's as if the bombs are exploding all over again."

"... the 81-year-old cabinet maker [now] finds himself seeking answers to its mysteries. Who owned it? Why did they leave it in the ground for a teenage soldier to unearth?" ...

"He's a household name and his famous creation has sold 100 million copies, but at 86, Mikhail Kalashnikov, father of the assault rifle that bears his name, is still a busy man."

"Blue eyes, grey hair, sprightly, he lives in the Urals town of Izhevsk and arrived yesterday in Moscow to hit back at criticism in the US of the sale of 100,000 Kalashnikovs to Venezuela."
