Under a policy established after a mass shooting at a Florida high school last year, the New York lender no longer does business with retail stores that sell guns to anyone under 21 or whose inventory includes bump stocks or high-capacity magazines.

A national gun control lobbying organization on Tuesday made Nevada the latest Western state where it is trying to show that gun rights groups including the National Rifle Association are behind a “Second Amendment sanctuary” drive. The Brady advocacy group said it believes gun rights advocates improperly orchestrated resolutions by rural lawmakers and sheriffs who say they won’t enforce a new state law requiring background checks on all gun sales, including purchases at gun shows and on the internet.

Back on March 29, U.S. District Court Judge Roger Benitez struck down a California law that banned high-capacity rifle magazines. The Cuban-born Benitez, an appointee of President George W. Bush, wrote that “Individual liberty and freedom are not outmoded concepts.” California’s law, according to the judge, “turns millions of responsible, law-abiding people trying to protect themselves into criminals.” Benitez cited examples of citizens who ran out of ammunition defending themselves against home invasions by violent criminals.

It’s not about the guns — it’s really about mental health. That’s what the NRA and gun-rights advocates trumpet every time there’s another mass shooting in the United States or when confronted with the grim statistics of gun violence in this country. So, you’d think, given that rhetoric, that gun-rights advocates would be in favor of Colorado’s new red-flag gun law, which seeks to temporarily — not permanently — remove guns from mentally disturbed individuals deemed a danger to themselves and others.

Matt Windschitl, a Republican from Harrison County, said it's legal in Iowa for anyone older than 18 to carry a weapon producing a nonprojectile, high-voltage pulse designed to immobilize a person. He said it should not be prohibited at public colleges and universities. |

“Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable.” The Boris the Blade quote from the movie "Snatch" came to mind as I hefted the used 3rd Gen Smith & Wesson Model 5906 in the used showcase at Indy Arms Company. The pistol showed all the hallmarks of being a former police-issue sidearm: scuffs and wear marks, a small divot chipped out of the MIM hammer spur where the gun had been dropped or smacked into a cruiser door, and a crosshatched network of scuffs on the lower right portion of the wrap-around Xenoy plastic grips, right where they’d been worn smooth by hundreds of hours of being rubbed up against squad car upholstery. |

The Wyoming Supreme Court agreed to review prosecutors' appeal in a murder case that a Natrona County judge dismissed on the basis of a new Wyoming law. In a Tuesday morning filing in the court's public docket, the court agreed to take up a request filed by the Wyoming attorney general’s office in March. In that request, the state's lawyers had asked the court to review Judge Catherine Wilking's dismissal of the first-degree murder case against Jason T. John, of Casper, who shot and killed Wesley Willow in a north Casper trailer park last year. |

It's a pivotal time for the sport of hunting, especially among America's youth. Due to urbanization, endless activities for children, and the constant humming draw of electronics, kids are getting less exposure to the outdoors and showing even less interest in hunting.
Sadly, hunting has become a dying sport – and yet you can do something about it.
By taking a child hunting, you keep the sport alive and help them become a hunter you can be proud of – someone who is as writer Tim Ferris describes: "responsible, piercingly intelligent, ethical hunters who eat what they kill and who understand the subtleties of nature, including preserving the ecosystems around us."

Feinstein mentioned that the attack was handgun-based, then called for more gun control without mentioning what type of gun control she wants. Her go-to gun control for decades has been an “assault weapons” ban, and lately she is pushing for a ban similar to that in Australia and New Zealand. But such a ban would not have prevented the Virginia Tech attack, as the attacker used handguns.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. — Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53 |
