Henrico School Board members will review a number of proposed changes to the Henrico Schools Code of Student Conduct at an April 18 meeting, including one that would clarify when a student’s actions would be considered self-defense.
The proposed change would add a clause allowing students to claim self defense as long as they were “without fault in provoking or bringing on the fight or incident, have reasonably feared, under the circumstances as they existed at the time, that there was an imminent risk of physical harm, and have used no more force than was reasonably necessary to prevent the threatened.” |

A recent video out of Tucson, Ari., shows us the right way to respond to a man threatening you with a sword. But, if you’ve never thought too much about how you’d respond to such a thing, it’s worth taking a few seconds to mentally run through that scenario, because misconceptions about blades and guns are all over the map in society.

As Louisiana prepares for a new law to go into effect that allows those 18 and older to carry a concealed handgun without a permit, a Republican-controlled committee pushed back Wednesday against bills seeking to restrict where people can carry guns.
Among the Democratic-authored legislation was a measure rejected along party lines that would have added child day care centers, early learning centers, developmental centers and nursing homes to the list of firearm-free zone. Places currently on the list include schools, churches, courthouses, police stations and the State Capitol.

Illinois State Rifle Association board member Mandi Ehler said gun control advocates seem to have forgotten what the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is all about.
“Every person that’s in government actually took an oath to uphold our constitution and all of them need to go back and reread it because they are completely misguided as to what can be restricted and what can’t,” Ehler told The Center Square.
On Thursday, the Illinois State Rifle Association and other gun rights groups will be in Springfield. Ehler said they expect thousands to arrive and lobby their legislators. |

More than thirty states across the country have put students safety in teachers' hands by arming educators; now, a lawmaker from Denham Springs is pushing for similar action.
Opponents worry stripping schools from their gun free one status will stir more harm than good.
Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Springs, says having teachers armed during an active shooting could save lives when police are minutes away.
"I think that the presence of a gun, the picture of a gun, the visual, it evokes a lot of emotion in people," Rep. Ventrella said. |

Does everyone remember Gaige Grosskreutz? He was the guy who testified for the prosecution in the self-defense trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, which didn't go as planned since he freely admitted to charging at Rittenhouse with a firearm pointed at him before he was shot by the defendant.
Well, now convicted felon Grosskreutz apparently goes by the name Paul Prediger - which ironically rhymes with predator.
Anyway, Rittenhouse has been on a speaking tour, and, of course, all the activists who don't care about facts or the truth have come out of the woodwork to protest Rittenhouse speaking on their campuses. It happened back in March at the University of Memphis. |

According to David Gutman at The Seattle Times, about the court case, State of Washington v Gator’s Custom Guns Inc., brought by the Silent Majority Foundation, “A Cowlitz County judge ruled Washington’s ban on high-capacity magazines unconstitutional Monday, but just minutes later the state Supreme Court issued an emergency order keeping the law on the books while the state appeals the decision.
“Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Gary Bashor ruled that Washington’s ban on the magazines, which hold more than 10 rounds and have been banned since 2022, violated both the Washington state and U.S. constitutions.” |

In a tense moment at a Kroger store in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the actions of Isaiah Ware, a concealed pistol licensee, have come under legal questioning and as a result, sparked a broader debate about the best way to respond in an altercation when you’re packing. The case serves as a warning to other carry permit holders or open carry practitioners on when the simple brandishing of a firearm to avoid a physical confrontation could land you in hotter water than a few thrown fists. |

“Every court in Washington and across the country to consider challenges to a ban on the sale of high-capacity magazines under the U.S. or Washington Constitution has either rejected that challenge or been overruled,” Ferguson said in response to the ruling. “This law is constitutional.”
The state is appealing Bashor’s ruling to Washington’s highest court and the ban remains in place.
Now Johnston will decide whether the ban remains in place until the full court decides.
“Those magazines are part of the firearm, and you just can’t go around banning guns like that,” Dave Workman with the 2nd Amendment Foundation said. |

When the Supreme Court issued its decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen two years ago, the Republican majority massively expanded gun rights by claiming that the Founding Fathers would have wanted it. Prior to 2022, judges evaluating the legality of gun safety laws were able to consider things like whether the government had a compelling reason for passing a given law. For the record, so far this year, there have been around 5,000 fatally compelling reasons for doing so. |

A federal criminal law prohibiting certain drug users from possessing a firearm is facially constitutional, the Eighth Circuit ruled Wednesday, saying the regulation comports with the US Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen decision expanding gun rights.
Judge David R. Stras said 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3), which bars unlawful controlled substance users or addicts of a controlled substance from possessing a firearm, is similar to historical US laws disarming the mentally ill and a Founding-era proscription on “taking up arms to terrify the people.” |

...passed a bill on Wednesday that would rein in the government’s ability to buy information about Americans from data brokers without a subpoena or warrant, with the vote coming in the face of intense backlash from Biden administration officials over national security concerns.
The Fourth Amendment is Not for Sale Act, a controversial bid to stop federal agencies from purchasing so-called commercially available information (CAI), passed 219-199, with both parties split over the measure.
The measure is staunchly opposed by the White House, which says it will hobble the intelligence community, but it has significant Democratic support in Congress. On Wednesday 96 members of that party joined 123 Republicans in voting for passage. |

New Jersey’s famously tight gun laws helped shootings dip last year to their lowest point in 25 years, but authorities say creative criminals have found a workaround that threatens to reverse that progress — they’re making guns at home.
Resourceful lawbreakers can bypass background checks and build guns from scratch in the privacy of their homes, using 3D printers, blueprints, and kits they buy online to create weapons that can fire quicker and unload more bullets than factory-made models, investigators and police supervisors testified Tuesday at a public hearing on illegal guns. |
