"Despite recent school shootings, new research finds that many Americans don't view gun ownership as dangerous, but rather as a form of security like a seat belt or smoke detector.
Gary Kleck, a criminologist at Florida State University, conducted research to determine how often guns are mentioned, brandished, or fired in self-defense. His research found that guns are used for self-defense 2.5 million times a year." |

"In the wake of recent school shootings, several schools across the United States are practicing school-safety drills."
~~This is a sure way to make our children feel unsafe and unsecure: drill into their heads that they are in constant fear for their lives, and the only thing they can do is run and hide. While they are at it, they are obviously instilling in them fear of guns, as evidenced by this child's quote:
"Every generation has its creepy thing. This generation, it's guns," said Annalee, 15. |

Walter Williams: "During the '40s, when I attended primary and secondary school, one didn't hear of school shootings. Why? Did we have better laws banning guns in and around schools? Or hadn't guns been invented? ... Customs, traditions, mores and rules of etiquette, not laws and government regulations, are what makes for a civilized society. These behavioral norms, mostly transmitted by example, word-of-mouth and religious teachings, represent a body of wisdom distilled through ages of experience, trial and error." |

Sheriff's officials said the vast majority of the contraband came from the people who normally don't pass through the detectors. More than a dozen lawyers - and one unnamed judge - were seen quickly exiting the building after realizing their passes wouldn't work, Daly said. The list of confiscated goods included: dozens of knives and box cutters including a switchblade, brass knuckles, pepper spray and handcuff keys. Most of the items were legal to carry, just not into a courthouse.

"Two days before Kimberly Cunningham was killed, she told a Joliet police detective she had found her estranged husband in her basement with a hammer in his hand, threatening to kill her." ~~Yet in Chicago, you're supposed to count on the "law" to protect you?
