The flock of teal lifted off into driving wind and rain out of the northwest that had left the surface of the river choppy. The dozen or so birds gained elevation as they came straight to where Christine, Cheyenne and I hunkered down in our makeshift blind built around a handy driftwood stump.
In a couple of blinks of the eye, the feathered rockets were about to pass directly overhead at 50 yards.
Christine announced they were too far for her, and I thought, “This is this shotgun’s purpose in life,” and I slapped the front trigger. The lead teal folded at the shot, and I slapped the trigger instantly as the muzzles passed the second bird. Nothing happened.

Inside the Green Springs American Legion post, it's practice time for the marksmanship team. In just a year of being a together, they are sending several kids to the Junior Olympics.
"I said 'lets go try out for Junior Olympics but, I think it's going to be a long shot,'" said coach Matt Muzik. "We were practicing four or five days a week for four months. Last Friday we got the news not only one kid made it, five kids made it."

A hammer-wielding home invasion suspect was shot by a homeowner Saturday night, ending an attack on two people inside, police said. The suspect forced their way into the back of the home and started attacking the residents with a hammer, according to police. That's when the homeowner opened fire, hitting the suspect multiple times.
The suspect and two others were transported to hospitals, but their conditions weren't available Sunday morning.
The attack was at least the second incident in the Houston area overnight involving the shooting of someone suspected of a crime. A car theft suspect was shot by the owner of a car Saturday night in northwest Harris County. The suspect in that incident was in serious condition at a hospital. |

Weatherby introduced its over-under Orion I shotgun six years ago, and it has methodically gained the attention of sportsmen—for good reason, too. It features the distinctive Weatherby lines and look, and the performance to match. A visit to the company website indicates MSRP is currenly $999, a pleasant pocketbook surprise, since it wore a $1,099 price tag when it hit U.S. shelves in 2015.

“This is the last gasp of white gun extremists losing power and you’ll all soon to be replaced by women and people of color who will ensure you’re spotlighted in history books as the buffoons you are. And also will undo all of the dangerous things you’ve done,” Moms Demand Action’s Shannon Watts tweeted Friday. She was reacting to former Texas State Representative Jonathan Stickland’s reminder that “constitutional carry” is advancing in rebuttal to her contention that Second Amendment advocates are “losing power.”

The constitutional carry vote in Texas has ignited a conversation about the possible value of government-mandating firearms training in the gun community. While most gun rights advocates would be in lockstep agreement that mandatory training to exercise any gun right is an unconstitutional infringement, many gun owners and even some professional instructors feel that the benefits of mandatory training outweigh the negatives. |

A new national survey by McLaughlin & Associates just fired what amounts to a warning shot across the bow of anti-gun Capitol Hill Democrats currently pushing the far left gun control agenda.
The survey was done for the Second Amendment Foundation, and it revealed a stunning 58.1 percent of American voters are more likely to “support a candidate for Congress who supports the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms.” |
