"The president’s rejection of Kyoto may well be the most important result of the November election. The world now has a chance to avoid a U.N. global-energy czar and let the ingenuity of free people and free markets find ways to meet the world’s energy requirements with as little negative environmental impact as possible." --Henry Lamb |

"The newly released calls differ from tapes of three calls released earlier by the Heartland Fire Department. Calls that went to 911 were routed either to the fire department or the sheriff's department. The dispatch system was overwhelmed by the number of calls and lines were tied up, causing many callers to receive only busy signals, the sheriff's department said."

Declining gun sales have forced the closing of Creekside Gun Shop, a 43-year old, once-popular western New York weapons store & gun range.
And what says the owner?: "I never realized how many of our customers had criminal records. I doubt if we sold more than 1,000 guns last year." And: "The law has been good. It's keeping guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them."

"A gunman forced his way into a car early yesterday, robbed two Queens women of cash and jewelry, ordered them to strip and then stole the vehicle, leaving the victims naked and terrified at Kennedy Airport, cops said."
~~This is an interesting contrast to the carjacking that was stopped last week by a citizen who was armed (see previous Newslinks for story). |

You can't switch channels without seeing that school, the shooter's face, the shooter in handcuffs. You can't help but hear the experts, the so-called friends, the pundits, all talking about this deranged kid.
It makes the cover of Time and Newsweek.
And somewhere, in some little town, a lonely, angry, desperate-for-attention teenager is watching all this and thinking to himself:
"Hmm ..." |
