Here's another story Greg Truscott probably wouldn't want us to run, because it exposes him as a savage who would rather hide the fact that his country's gun laws terrorize and victimize innocents and sic lawyers on those who would expose that fact.

The UK gun ban still doesn't seem to be working Mr. Truscott. Will you try to silence the messengers who would broadcast this truth?

"For instance, Hemenway pointed out, 'all evidence' shows that a gun in the home increases occupants' chances of dying as a victim of homicide, suicide, or unintentional shooting. 'All the data' are consistent in finding that geographic areas and populations with greater gun inventories experience greater rates of gun death."

-------
Objectivity to Hemenway is what garlic is to a vampire or showers are to Michael Moore. You would think a Harvard researcher would better understand that he has repeatedly failed to establish a CAUSATIVE link. This is the same pseudo-intellectual who attempted to establish a link between suicide and gun ownership, but failed to explain why there are countries with low gun ownership rates but much higher suicide rates than the US -- and why there are countries with higher gun ownership rates than the US, but much lower suicide rates.

Was the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Conditioned on Service in an Organized Militia?

"Those who deny that the original meaning of the Second Amendment protected an individual right to keep and bear arms on a par with the rights of freedom of speech, press and assembly no longer claim that the amendment refers only to a collective right of states to maintain their militias. Instead, they now claim that the right, although belonging to individuals, was conditioned on service in an organized militia. With the demise of organized militias, they contend, the right lost any relevance to constitutional adjudication. In this essay, I evaluate the case made for this historical claim by Richard Uviller and William Merkel in their book, The Militia and the Right to Arms, or, How the Second Amendment Fell Silent. I also evaluate their denial that the original meaning of Fourteenth Amendment protected an individual right to arms unconditioned on militia service. I find both claims inconsistent with the available evidence of original meaning and also, perhaps surprisingly, with existing federal law."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A 14-year-old student has been suspended from his school after police received reports that he was waving a handgun from his school bus.

The gun turned out to be a plastic lighter. No one was injured.

According to East Providence police, a teacher driving by the bus early Wednesday spotted the boy holding what appeared to be a gun.

Police were alerted and officers boarded the bus.

When they approached the student, the boy said all he had was a lighter.

Police and school officials said the teen could face charges. He was suspended because of the school's zero-tolerance policy on weapons.

The teen is not being named because of his age. He attends the Watters School in East Providence.

"The decision lowering the suspension from 10 to six days came after the committee reviewed the 13-year-old boy’s case in a rare public disciplinary hearing."

"The sixth-grader’s mother requested the public review and restated that position to School Committee Chairman John F. Ward as the session began in the Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center media room."

And the mother was PLEASED with the outcome? The kid wanted to cut some fruit and was treated like a criminal because of it, and she's happy he received six days instead of ten?!?

"Yesterday was apparently 'Second Amendment Day' at CU-Boulder. Who knows their Constitution?"

"The right to bear arms seems to rear its debatably ugly head every few years at CU. Though the Colorado Attorney General found last year that the CU Regents' ban on concealed weapons on campus was legal, CU's College Republicans are hardly surrendering their belief in their right to carry a gun on campus."

"For their 'Second Amendment Day' Wednesday, the Republicans held a presentation at the University Memorial Center's Dalton Trumbo Memorial Fountain featuring speakers and informational displays about guns. CU Republicans contend that the Regents' laws banning concealed-carry are unconstitutional and are asking they be repealed."

Rod Blagojevich, who shares concerns by opponents of the bills who say they would undermine local authority on gun control issues."

" 'The truth is that HB 4075 has little to do with the situation in Wilmette. Indeed, it is a strategy by the (NRA) to undermine the local control of communities to regulate the possession and use of handguns,' Hamos said last week. "Now comes the new federal No Child Left Behind law's little known regulations, one of which mandates that students who are suspended or expelled for fighting or carrying drugs, alcohol or weapons at school must carry the record of their wrongdoings with them when they move to a new school." ...

"No one should be unfairly flagged. But information about what one did in the past certainly gives those in charge of our school system a heads up about the possibilities that could occur in the future. ..."

-------
With children getting disciplinary records for carrying lighters and keychains in the form of a gun, getting suspended for threatening to shoot a rubberband at another student or bringing a small knife to school to cut their fruit, is it any wonder there is hesitation about their "records" following them for the rest of their school careers?

With kids being disciplined for lending a friend Advil or asthma medication or even sharing a lemon drop and being prosecuted for it, is hesitation so surprising?

"The protest Wednesday at Clifford Pierce Middle School resulted in mass wardrobe changes, said Principal James Joiner." ...

"No students were disciplined for wearing pink, he said."

"Joiner said he understood that students might feel the policy is unfair, but he said the protest -- which included roughly one-tenth of the student body -- distracted from education." ...

"Superintendent Tony Lux said the policy had been misinterpreted as a ban." ...

"However, the wearing of any color when worn by groups of students to set themselves apart as an exclusive group ... will be investigated as possibly violating the student handbook regarding the wearing of gang colors."

Not only was the ban an asinine idea in the first place, but now the school administration is backtracking and claiming that there never was a ban, even as they continue enforcing it. Lessons from the Ministry of Truth:

Almost all of the women who worked to convince the kidnapped women to accept the groom and the marriage had been kidnapped and forced into marriage the same way."

"So from a libertarian point of view, I saw that when most of a society accepts the initiation of force to achieve their goals then it becomes a normal and accepted part of that society. In order to break that cycle then people have to refuse to submit and many times that is far more difficult than going along with a culture no matter how wrong it may be."

"Once someone submits to violations of their rights, then they are far more likely to encourage and participate in the same violations of another person's rights."

"Why is valid, conflicting, scientific information being ignored? Are the powers that be in academia, politics and the media afraid that if they give us both sides of this and other arguments, such as 'gun control', to openly study we might disagree with their cherished beliefs? Would access to conflicting information empower the 'little man' (us) and somehow threaten their perceived social and intellectual superiority? Would that be such a bad thing?"

"These are questions that need to be asked and, more importantly, answered. I chose to discuss climate change because of the obvious way that only one side is being discussed. That this is by no means the only subject this happens in is patently obvious."

"Man abducted at gunpoint."

"Two held in abduction of women."

"These are just a few recent local headlines."

"Would you know what to do if faced with a life-threatening situation?"

"Keith Boggs, owner of Broad Ripple Martial Arts, said concerns for personal safety are high."

" 'People want personal protection to belong to them,' he said."

"In his self-defense class, Boggs teaches his students to bring the fight to the assailant."

" 'You make the fight right there instead of waiting,' he said. 'If they take you away, chances are you're gonna die,' he said."

"And you don't have to be a black belt to learn."

-------
It would make much more sense to never let the assailant get close enough to touch you in the first place, especially if he is bigger and stronger than you are. "Bring the fight to him" at 20 feet by aiming your gun. Chances are, he won't get any closer.

"...Most political flicks, even the good ones, suffer from a seriously distorted concept of their subject. The most egregious case—setting aside Stand Up and Cheer—is probably The Contender (2000), another liberal fantasy. Writer-director Rod Lurie is so tone-deaf that he seems to think a popular, moderate, Midwestern politician would call for a draconian form of gun control; worse yet, he thinks that a potential vice-president's youthful sexcapades would be more of a political hot potato than her open atheism. It's at times like these that one hopes the candidates are smart enough not to take all their cues from the movies."

"Though on second thought, I kind of like the idea of Bush as a rapping socialist after all. Bring it on!"

"Anyone wondering how a newly formed local coalition opposed to gun violence feels about the National Rifle Association holding its annual convention in Pittsburgh next month need only look at the name of the organization's Web site: GoodByeNRA.org."

"Yesterday, the Confluence Against Gun Violence fired the first volley in what likely will be a battle of ideological banter with the NRA when it held a news conference in Shadyside and characterized the NRA as a violent, militaristic, racist, sexist and homophobic organization."

" 'We believe we have begun to turn the tide,' said Jim Sollo, president of Virginians Against Handgun Violence. 'We still have a long way to go, but we look forward to continued progress in the next legislative session.' "

"As signs of success, Sollo cited two bills that have cleared committees this year that previously failed. One would have banned most guns in airports, while another would have required background checks on all firearms sales at gun shows."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
