A fully automatic machine gun has been reported missing. It’s a powerful weapon, and now no one knows where it is.

The gun was last seen at the U.S. Postal Service in Detroit.

"It’s next to impossible to lose a registered package. If they can’t find it, someone took it," said owner Steve Thompson.

Thompson is a licensed firearm dealer in Ohio, and he says tracking information went dark in February in Detroit while the Uzi was headed to a buyer in Florida.

"The odds of it falling into the wrong hands and making national news with my name attached to it, I’m not looking forward to something like that," he said.

A man who identifies himself as a "Second Amendment auditor" explains why he walks around the Treasure Coast with two guns in plain sight.

Several 911 calls were made over the weekend when people spotted Michael Taylor with what appears to be a rifle around his shoulder and a handgun in a holster on his hip.

"I do understand the concern and I want people to have a heightened alertness of things that are going wrong, if something is going wrong. But I also want people to understand that we have Second Amendment right and we do have the Open Carry law."

A Charles County judge ordered Dayton James Webber held without bond Wednesday following a bail review hearing in a high-profile homicide case stemming from a fatal shooting last month.

Webber, 27, of La Plata, was extradited back to Maryland on March 31 after being taken into custody in Virginia. He is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in a violent crime in connection with the March 22, 2026, death of Bradrick Michael Wells.

Carmona had his hand hidden in his jacket as he got closer and closer, DeMartino said. As he began pulling his hand out, Pizarro pulled out the community gun and fired two shots before the community gun jammed, DeMartino said.

Carmona fell and dropped his own gun. Pizarro picked it up and fired around 5 more shots, prosecutor Anthony Copani said. Carmona died from his injuries.

Pizarro is now on trial for second-degree murder.

The prosecution and defense agree on many of the facts of how the fatal shooting occurred.

DeMartino and Pizarro insist he acted in self-defense. Copani says the shooting was an “overkill” that constitutes murder.

A federal appeals court wrestled with whether it should rule on the constitutionality of a federal switchblade ban, or send it back to a trial court to decide.

A US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit panel heard arguments Wednesday on a Second Amendment challenge to the Federal Switchblade Act. US District Judge Mark Pittman in Fort Worth, Texas, last year found that the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the law and dismissed the case.

The trial court litigation spanned the last months of Joe Biden’s administration and the first months of Donald Trump’s second administration. The Justice Department ...

"In response to our Motion for Summary Judgment, the court requested additional briefing, which highlight multiple critical elements of our claim," said SAF Director of Legal Operations Bill Sack. "We are thrilled to have an additional opportunity to explain exactly why our claim is so strong. The brief highlights why SAF and our members have standing to bring this suit, and precisely how the merits analysis supports our position. As we always do, we make our positions as plainly and forthrightly as possible, and we post links to the entire docket for each case on our website so everyone can read the full arguments we are making on their behalf."

The backstory: Up until yesterday, Massachusetts had  29 different basic firearm safety courses that residents could take. But the new law — passed after a 2022 Supreme Court ruling expanded the right to bear arms — mandated that the state to update that list. The new courses are required to include material on disengagement tactics, suicide prevention and safe storage, as well as new live-fire training. The State Police released the list yesterday afternoon, just hours before the new rules took effect.

On Tuesday, March 24, Governor Kathy Hochul spoke at the Police Investigative Forensics Center in Albany, alongside officers from various municipalities, on the creation of 3D-printed guns or ghost guns. She also pushed for gun manufacturers to work to prevent easy conversion from handguns to automatic weapons.

The proposition initially mentioned back in January was to directly target the issue of the “plastic pipeline,” which is the term for the non-traditional manufacturing of weapons and conversion devices through 3D printing. These manmade weapons are harder to trace since they do not have identifiable serial numbers.

The federal government has accused state and territory leaders who refuse to sign up to its proposed national gun buyback scheme of “standing in the way” of efforts to get dangerous weapons off Australian streets.

Anthony Albanese’s end of March deadline to establish the biggest gun buyback in 30 years has now passed, with half of the nation’s governments refusing to join. There is no timeline for the buyback, announced in the weeks after the Bondi terror attack, and it remains unclear how costs will be split.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced it will publish a proposed rule this April 2 that would allow the mailing of legal handguns through the mail, a significant change in federal firearms regulation.

A proposal under development
The initiative seeks to modify current postal standards to expand the type of guns that can be shipped. If approved, legal handguns could be forwarded under conditions similar to those already in place for rifles and shotguns.

USPS will open a 30-day public comment period following the official release of the proposal.

Aidan Montgomery is soft spoken and by his own admission "non-political."

His new business, Santa Rosa Outfitters, might be located at the Milton-area commercial space previously occupied by Gulf Coast Guns and its outspoken and uber-political owner Chris Smith, but chances are extremely good any advertising Montgomery does won't grate on the nerves quite like a vintage Chris Smith production.

"We are an independent business not affiliated with Gulf Coast Guns," Montgomery said.

A proposed bill in the Rhode Island general assembly would ban the possession of particular military-style semiautomatic guns. The bill, introduced on Feb. 27, adds to legislation from last year that banned the manufacture, sale, transfer and purchase of prohibited firearms.

State Sen. Tiara Mack ’16 (D-Providence), the primary sponsor of the bill in the Senate, told The Herald that the Dec. 13 mass shooting at Brown and the Feb. 16 mass shooting in Pawtucket spurred a greater legislative push for stricter gun control across the state, though she noted that neither of these cases involved the use of assault weapons.

The gun rights group Grass Roots North Carolina is adding its support to a challenge of North Carolina’s law against felons possessing firearms.

The group filed a friend-of-the-court brief this week in the case State v. Ducker. The ACLU of North Carolina and Cato Institute also have filed a brief supporting defendant Eric James Ducker’s challenge of N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-415.1.

“Overcriminalization and overregulation have made the law endlessly more complex than it was at our Nation’s founding,” wrote lawyer Tyler Brooks while representing GRNC. Many commentators, including a sitting U.S. Supreme Court Justice, have remarked that it is now virtually impossible for an individual to be sure she has not run afoul of some law at some time.
