"Today the Institute for Policy Research at The University of Cincinnati (Ohio) released a poll (pdf) of 804 random Ohioans. This poll is both flawed and misleading to say the least. The title of the poll itself is 'Substantial Majority Continues To Oppose Concealed-Carry', yet the poll simply did not ask those being polled if they were in favor of or opposed to making it legal to carry a firearm for self-defense." |

The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, long the target of federal inquiries over suspected operation and management problems, was criticized in a new report outlining the agency´s inability to account for hundreds of weapons and thousands of computers.

The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) says that guns should be regulated for safety like any other consumer product. The consumer group is supporting legislation that would give the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regulatory power over firearms, such as the authority to recall or even ban guns and to set standards for trigger locks. |

John R. Lott Jr., senior research scholar at the Yale University Law School, wrote that the media emphasizes coverage of mass shootings but rarely reports on incidents where a citizen saved a life with a gun. "Few people realize that civilians use guns defensively to stop about 2 million crimes a year, five times more often than guns are used to commit crimes," said Lott, citing national surveys. |

The man who operated a gun show where the Columbine killers allegedly obtained several of their weapons has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed against him by the family of one of the wounded students. He sold the weapons legally to someone, who in turn and without his knowledge, transferred them illegally to the minors. |

Though law enforcement officials have traced three of the guns fired by Luther Casteel at JB's Pub early Saturday morning, their origin provided little information as to how the convicted felon came to possess the weapons.
The guns could have changed hands hundreds of times in the last two to three decades, officials said. But police do believe they were never stolen nor were they ever "legally" purchased from another gun store or gun show. |
