"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today congratulated Arizona attorney Sandra Froman on her election as president of the National Rifle Association of America."

"SAF Founder Alan Gottlieb met with Ms. Froman at the NRA convention in Houston, TX over the weekend."

"'Sandy and I have been friends for many years, and I think she will bring lots of energy and knowledge to the job,' Gottlieb stated. 'Her leadership skills will soon become evident, and her strengths include a terrific professional background, and deep devotion to the shooting sports.'"

"CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron called Froman 'one of the top leaders in the firearms rights community.'" ...

"An outrageous remark by a former official with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is 'nothing short of slanderous,' said leaders of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)."

"Gerald Nunziato, former head of ATF's National Tracing Center and now a partner in Crime Gun Solutions, an anti-gun consulting firm, told the Houston Chronicle Sunday, 'If it wasn't for criminals, there wouldn't be a gun industry in this country.'"

"CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb fired back: 'If it wasn't for remarks like Nunziato's, perhaps law-abiding American gun owners would not consider ATF an adversarial agency when it comes to Second Amendment rights. His comment is nothing short of slanderous. I guess in his opinion, we're all criminals.'" ...

"Gun banners claim that they don't want to ban guns, 'they just want to keep guns out of the wrong hands,' and 'if it saves just one child's life, it's worth it.'"

"The reality is, they DO want to ban guns. The 'wrong hands' are YOUR hands -- the hands of the law-abiding citizen who understands the original intent of the Second Amendment as well as the historical consequences of stripping away a population's most effective defense mechanism. They claim they want to 'save the children' while purposefully creating defense-free schools which has cost the lives of many of our young people." ...

... "Suddenly it dawned on me, [NRA members] were telling me that my right of free speech was dependent upon their right to bear arms. Right, like your average NRA member is going to fight off an invading army. Still, the gun people had a point that I should have picked up on long ago." ...

"If I support gun ownership, isn't it both logical and fair that the NRA should automatically oppose all attempts by the conservative left to regulate music lyrics, cable TV content, satellite radio and Howard Stern? If we support their rights, aren't they obliged to bring to bear their winning influence on all attempts to diminish the rights of Americans to express themselves freely, even during national flirtations with totalitarianism?" ...

"The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not list right-wing domestic terrorists and terrorist groups on a document that appears to be an internal list of threats to the nation’s security." ...

"Last year, following arson and vandalism sprees on both coasts attributed to radical left-wing groups such as ALF and ELF, the FBI made those movements its top domestic terror priority. But right-wing groups remained a concern, according to one FBI official."

"'That doesn’t de-emphasize our interest in other domestic terror groups,' stressed the official, who would not be named discussing the bureau’s counterterror strategy, during a phone interview Friday. 'For us, the right-wing patriot movement remains a continuing threat.' (The FBI considers militias, tax protesters, and anti-government groups part of the right-wing movement, the official said; the bureau considers violent anti-abortion extremists a separate movement.)" emphasis added] ...

... "Despite both aptitude and acquired skills, I never owned a gun, save for an ancient, New Worchester fowling piece, double-barreled and 16-gauge, inherited from my great-grandfather. After visiting the 5-acre gun show at the National Rifle Association convention here this weekend, I realized what a fool I've been."

"The pen is mightier than the sword, but can the same be said of a .50-caliber, steel-piercing sniper rifle with muzzle flash suppression and cheek rest? I would hate to be the guy with the pen." ...

"He's not alone. The number of concealed weapon permits is on the rise in Cumberland County. In 2002, the sheriff's department approved 353 applications and the next year it was up to 395. In 2004, numbers jumped to 636 and this year it's already pacing to exceed that."

"First, I would like to laud the author of 'Limiting gun access does not reduce crime' for applying logic, reason and intellectual honesty to the topic of gun ownership and gun usage (CT, April 13, 2005)."

"It's not often that logic, reason and intellectual honesty about guns appears in the pages of any newspaper anywhere."

"However, I think the author has made two fundamental mistakes. First, he writes: 'If gun owners are going to convince advocates of stringent gun control to ease up, they need to save the ‘it's my right’ arguments for the courtroom and respond to gun control proponents who argue on the basis of gun violence statistics.'"

"While I like the author’s optimism and enthusiasm, I think he is making a very 'collegiate' mistake here in actually believing that hardcore anti-gunners can be persuaded by mere logic, truth and facts." ...
