"'There's no rational reason we should allow people to possess semiautomatic assault weapons.' That 'assault' follows 'semiautomatic' is not by accident. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) is looking for a ban on 'assault' weapons. (See Michael Gaddy on this issue.) These people look for any opening to take away more and more of our rights. According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (or rather, the campaign to prevent self-defense), Eric Holder and Rahm Emanuel have become 'muted' on this issue. Of course, they have not abandoned the issue at all. Both of those fascist criminals have spoken loudly against the right to bear arms, however, there just isn't enough support for this in Congress ... yet." ...

"The answer is alarmingly simple, and nobody is going to like it."

"I have continued my conversations with my liberal family members and had an epiphany. I understand the mental construct whereby they have reached their positions on guns, and it is much like mine! All of us strive to allocate our scarce resources to the best of our knowledge, and to our best advantage. Most of us buy insurance because there is a chance of catastrophic loss of our house or car that would cost us more than the annual premiums for many years. We study and evaluate risk, seeking to achieve an acceptable level of safety at an acceptable level of cost. Socially and emotionally we do the same thing." ...

A new report from the Brady Campaign ... was also released today, making a forceful case that Brady checks should be conducted for all gun sales in America, including at gun shows."

"As my colleague, David Codrea, has already reported, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that state and local governments are bound by the Second Amendment. Since the advent of the Fourteenth Amendment, most provisions of the Bill of Rights have gained power over not only the federal government, as originally intended, but over state and local governments, as well. The Second Amendment was one of the few exceptions--and that has never made sense (and was clearly not intended by the drafters of the Fourteenth Amendment)."

"The FBI employees have been charged with [misdemeanor] conspiracy and committing [misdemeanor] criminal invasion of privacy. They were working in an FBI satellite control room at the mall when they positioned a camera on temporary changing rooms and zoomed in for at least 90 minutes on girls dressing for the Cinderella Project fashion show, Marion County Prosecutor Pat Wilson said Monday." ...

"The workers were described in a complaint as 'police officers,' but prosecutors did not say whether the men were agents or describe what kind of work they did." ...

"A man who died after Tucson police shocked him with a Taser stun gun has been identified as a resident of Kentucky."

"Police say Gary A. Decker died several hours after officers trying to subdue him shocked him with a Taser stun gun. They gave no city of residence."

"Officers were called to the 50-year-old's downtown Tucson hotel room early Thursday because staff heard loud banging and music coming from his room. Sgt. Mark Robinson says they used a pass key to get inside after he wouldn't open the door."

"They found the room ransacked, furniture broken and a nude Decker holding a toilet seat he had ripped from the commode. They used a Taser but it had no apparent affect and they eventually wrestled him to the ground." ...

The NYPD continues to sponsor gun buy-backs... and this "weekend, it's the Bronx's turn. Illegal gun-owners can swap their firearms, no questions asked, in exchange for $200 cash cards."

"REPORTER: Fernando Mateo with the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers says he's helping to spread the word where gun violence tends to happen -- like in bodegas and livery cabs."

"MATEO: They are the ones that every day of the year get either robbed, assaulted or murdered by a gun...we are basically the most vulnerable in terms of small businesses."

"REPORTER: Mateo is working with the Bronx DA to distribute flyers in English and Spanish to every bodega and livery cab driver in the Bronx. ..."

"Erie, Pennsylvania police Patrolman James Cousins II was off-duty and well into his cups the night of April 6 as he regaled bar patrons with tales of his on-the-job exploits." ...

"Cousins also bragged about using his cell phone to capture personal photos of the deceased. ..." ...

"Cousins ... apparently forgot that other people carry cell phones as well."

"... Orr uploaded the resulting video clip to YouTube shortly thereafter and then flew to Australia, where he presently lives ..."

"Within hours of the video being posted on YouTube, an internal affairs investigation was underway -- not of Cousins' behavior, but rather of the source of the video itself."

"That 'investigation' proved to be little more than an attempt to blackmail Orr's family into removing the clip ...

"Wisconsin citizens are legally allowed to carry firearms openly, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said in a memo to the state's district attorneys Monday."

"... according to Van Hollen, there is nothing in state law regarding citizens who openly carry weapons."

"'The Department (of Justice) believes that mere open carry of a firearm — absent additional facts and circumstances — should not result in a disorderly conduct charge,' Van Hollen wrote." ...

"Van Hollen did say, however, that the police may stop and question citizens who openly carry weapons if the officer has 'reasonable suspicion based on articulable facts of criminal activity,' based on the individual circumstance." ...

"Yesterday, Wisconsin Attorney General J.B.Van Hollen issued a long-awaited advisory memorandum making it clear that merely openly carrying a firearm, absent additional facts and circumstances, is protected behavior under Article I, § 25 Of The Wisconsin Constitution and will never justify a disorderly conduct charge absent other criminal behavior." ...

"... Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said he would advise his officers to question anyone out in public with a gun. He went on to say that 'If my officers see someone walking around the City of Milwaukee with a firearm openly displayed, it borders on irresponsible if I were to communicate to members of my community that they can carry that firearm with impunity.'" ...

KABA Note: So Chief Flynn is saying that it would be irresponsible following the law?!?

"When will our cops understand Open Carry is legal in Wisconsin?"

"County Sheriffs need to tell the local police chiefs that OPEN CARRY is LEGAL! SOMEONE needs to do this! OUR GOVERNOR says open carry is LEGAL!"

"NO one is listening. NO ONE is speaking out- not our Governor- not our County Sheriffs! Sheriffs have more power than local police chiefs. Think Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff, Joe Arpaio."

"In the meantime Wisconsin resident, Jesus Gonzalez will go to court against West Milwaukee for wrongful search and seizure when he was wrongfully arrested for open carrying in a Walmart store. His gun was in a thigh holster, in the open. Perfectly legal." ...

"We are in the midst of a national ammunition shortage. Provoked by an AP story attributing the shortage to military demand (i.e., Presient Bush), Bob Owens started writing about the shortage in 2007. Owens debunked the AP story ..."

"Owens revisited the subject in February of this year, reviewing possible causes of the current shortage. Sales of ammo are booming, making it what Glenn Reynolds calls 'an economic bright spot.'"

"Last month ESPN took a look at booming ammo sales ... The Google Trends chart supports the story's thesis that concerns over what the election of Barack Obama (and a Democratic Congress) portends for gun owners is the main cause for the inflated demand for ammunition." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Hundreds of gun rights supporters assembled in the state Capitol for a noisy Second Amendment rally that's become an annual tradition.

The Tuesday rally focused on constitutional protections for gun ownership in the state and national constitutions and what several speakers described as threats to those rights.

The crowd booed heartily at the mention of a proposal backed by Gov. Ed Rendell to limit handgun purchases to one per month.

National Rifle Association president John Sigler is warning that "the enemies of freedom are not giving up" and that too few gun owners understand that their rights are at risk.

"In response to Professor Wadman's suggestion that the United States amend the second amendment (apparently to ban guns, although no particular amendment is offered) to supposedly reduce the number of deaths by firearm."

"But if the good professor looked at the actual results of gun restrictions (as detailed in More Guns, Less Crime by John Lott, Jr.), gun restrictions appear to increase the number of violent crimes, including murder, where enacted, while liberalized concealed carry laws actually reduce the violent crime rates." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: To say nothing of the fact that the Second Amendment did not create a right to bear arms but rather protected an already existing right. Removing the words from the Bill of Rights will not remove the right.
