Livingston County medical staff are receiving face shields from an unusual source during the coronavirus outbreak - a local gun club.
Chris Sorgatz, 52, first thought of using his 3D printers to make shields when scrolling though Facebook a couple weeks ago.
"I'm home. I'm looking for ways to to keep busy around all the stress and depression of the virus," Sorgatz, an engineer for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said.
When he was told not only would the shields be accepted at facilities but that they were needed, "That was it," he said.
When Preddie, president of the Howell Gun Club, asked Sorgatz how much he owed him for the shields, the answer was nothing. |

Elissa Barron was eager to compete in the National Junior Olympics Championships for air rifle later this month.
Unfortunately, like most other sporting events, the USA Shooting Leadership was forced to postpone the event originally scheduled for April 9-11 at Colorado Springs, Colorado, because of the pandemic.
Despite the change in date, advancing to a national championship still comes as an impressive feat for the North Star sophomore.
“I was very excited (to advance),” said Barron after learning she had qualified. “I knew that I had placed well, but they had not sent out any invitations yet. When they did, it was an exciting moment because it was something that I wanted to strive for my freshman year, and I didn’t get it. |

It’s understandable that Sheriff Wayne Ivey is unhappy with the 5th District Court of Appeals’ ruling dismissing charges against John DeRossett, accused of shooting a Brevard County deputy during a botched arrest in 2015. I’d feel the same in his position.
Like Ivey, I also support the Stand-Your-Ground law — its original version and part of the current version. The District Court reached the only decision it could under the current statute. Under the original one, the court may have reached a different result. |

A shootout in a southwest valley shopping center left a man dead early this morning in what Metro Police are describing as a possible self-defense killing.
About 2 a.m., multiple callers reported gunfire in the 9600 block of West Tropicana Avenue, near Fort Apache Road, Lt. Ray Spencer said.
The victim was found dead in the parking lot, Spencer said. |

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today said the weekend rampage in Nova Scotia provided more proof that strict gun control laws will not prevent determined individuals from committing mayhem.
Authorities now say at least 22 people were killed, as more victims have been discovered by investigators. Many were apparently killed in their own homes while obeying “stay home” mandates due to the COVID-19 outbreak. |

The Horry County Council held a virtual meeting Tuesday night and passed an ordinance that declares Horry County a sanctuary county for Second Amendment rights, according to the Horry County Council.
Council members approved the third and final reading on the ordinance, which makes the county an independent republic and protects the citizen's right to bear arms and ensures the county won't have to comply if state or federal government change laws. |

Mr. Arthur and others believe that adoption of such a proposal would protect gun owners against an intrusive government and so-called red flag laws, universal background checks and prohibitions against semi-automatic long guns and high-capacity magazines.
Michigan has no red flag law, there are no universal background checks and no prohibition against so-called assault rifles. So if nothing changes, commissioners would be taking a bold stand against . . . nothing. |

For decades, the Corps of Engineers (COE) has infringed on the Second Amendment rights of people in the United States, by limiting the bearing of arms on Corps managed lands and waters. In the last decade, lawsuits have challenged these infringements. The Corps lost one, appealed, and appealed another. After the election of President Trump, the Corps agreed to settle the lawsuits in March of 2017. The proposed rule simply aligns the Corps of Engineers rules with existing law on other government-managed lands and waters. |

A judge declined on Tuesday to suspend a Georgia law that requires people to have a license to carry a handgun after a gun rights group raised concerns because licenses aren’t being issued during the coronavirus emergency.
The same day that Gov. Brian Kemp declared a public health state of emergency, the chief judge of the Georgia Supreme Court declared a judicial emergency and instructed courts statewide to “suspend all but essential court functions” to help stem the spread of the virus. Several days later, the Council of Probate Court Judges of Georgia issued a memo saying the issuance of weapons carry licenses would be temporarily suspended. |

Even during the current pandemic, some anti-Second Amendment extremists are looking for ways to attack our rights. This should come as no surprise, after all, Barack Obama’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, famously said that a crisis should never be wasted.
Well, unfortunately, Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) has stepped up in this regard. Loyal AmmoLand News readers would be familiar with this name, as a past piece of legislation he introduced, the Trafficking Reduction And Criminal Enforcement Act, also known as HR 4255, was discussed here earlier. This time, we are discussing HR 6453, a bill with no catchy title, but one that will be used to attack our Second Amendment rights indirectly. |

In the “Science Of Gun Policy,” a new analysis of research by the RAND Corporation on 18 types of gun laws, the non-partisan think tank found that evidence of these laws’ effects remains limited, leaving the public with a shortage of information on gun policies.
The report’s authors called for more research funding, concluding that “rigorous research” examining the effects of many state gun policies is “virtually nonexistent.” |

That’s right: an AK shotgun. Though a bit unconventional at first glance, once you handle one you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the balance and feel. Then when you shoot it, you will be totally sold despite its uncanny departure from traditional shotgun profiles.
The utility of a semi-auto shotgun is well known, but this configuration in the shadow of an AK-47 battle rifle might be a little more difficult to grasp initially. Chinese-made and imported by JTS (a buying group out of Rochester, New York of all places), the M12AK seems to be solely marketed and sold by big box Academy Sports stores from Texas. |

The trouble is some states have behaved as if the Second Amendment is not even in the U.S. Constitution. The District of Columbia (D.C.) was so blatant about taking away this right that residents of D.C. decided to sue the District for violating their rights. That case, a dozen years ago, made it to the U.S. Supreme Court as District of Columbia v. Heller. The high court ruled that the Second Amendment does indeed protect an individual right. This threw out D.C.’s most-egregious restrictions, but it was hardly the end of the struggle for freedom in D.C., as the District continued to use other means to prevent people from utilizing their rights. |
