"Two recent home invasions in Ohio had two very different outcomes for the victims, and for the perpetrators."

"In Case #1, a 23-year-old Akron woman, Ms. Raysean Clark, was shot in the chest by Timothy D. Secession, after he forced his way into her home and began beating her. Clark is still slowly recovering."

"In Case #2, a Columbus homeowner used his gun to stop David A. Griffin when he crashed into the home in an attempted home invasion/robbery."

CA: California Assembly says, "Let them eat lead!"

"The worst possible nightmare for many politicians—and especially for California Assembly members Mark Ridley-Thomas and Paul Koretz—is that citizens actually start to pay attention to their everyday shenanigans. Several times now, socialist fiefs in California’s Assembly have tried to pass a statewide tax on ammunition. And although Californians consistently shoo them away, they continue to scratch at the screen door. Someday, they hope, no one will be paying attention and they will manage to scamper into the kitchen. But not today."

"Los Angeles Assemblyman Ridley-Thomas reintroduced the idea of an ammunition tax in February via Assembly Bill 992, this time claiming that the proceeds would benefit 'Trauma Centers' that treat uninsured gunshot victims. In California, words like 'trauma' sell, and two weeks ago the Committee on Public Safety approved the bill. And just in case the Assembly doesn’t approve it, notorious Hollywood Assemblyman Paul Koretz introduced a word-for-word identical bill labeled AB 602. So even if Ridley-Thomas has the door slammed shut in his face, these two persistent pests can keep on scratching."

"With all of the media focus on the war with Iraq, another war is quietly raging. In the two long years since the Bush administration was inaugurated, the war on drugs has steadily intensified. What is unusual about this particular intensification is that it is directly aimed at the least insidious of all illicit drugs, marijuana. 'It's more harmful than we thought' a recent high quality, TV ad warns, ironically inspiring independent (and anti-prohibition) minds to question the invasive methods and curious media the new anti-marijuana campaign employs."

"We might think of dollars as being 'certificates of performance.' The better I serve my fellow man, and the higher the value he places on that service, the more certificates of performance he gives me. ...In order for one to have a claim on what his fellow man produces, he must first serve him. Contrast that moral standard to Congress' standing offer, 'Vote for me and I'll take what your fellow man produces and give it to you.' "

"McGreevey's press spokes-man, Micah Rasmussen, acknowledged that the new policy, which is effective immediately, is the result of a special report by The Press of Atlantic City that examined how most New Jersey law-enforcement agencies sell used guns to dealers in exchange for a discount on the cost of new weapons."

"Gun rights supporters have moved one big step closer to requiring state sheriffs to give handgun permits to most law-abiding adults who seek them. The House attached the proposal to an innocuous D-N-R bill and passed it 88-to-46. The parliamentary maneuver was designed to force the DFL-led Senate to vote on an issue its leadership has been less-than-enthusiastic about."

"Staff at a police station in Fife were stunned when a man turned up at their public counter and said he wanted to hand in the weapon. It is believed the rifle, which was almost 6ft long and weighed more than a hundredweight, belonged to a member of his family who had served in the first world war."

"While in a poor state of repair, officers say the weapon could have caused 'carnage on a massive scale' if it had fallen into the wrong hands. They said the rifle was likely to be the biggest and most deadly weapon handed in under Scotland's weapons amnesty."

Full story below:

The National Rifle Association is considering opposing Rep. Ron Paul, a champion of gun rights, in next year's Texas Republican primary. Paul evoked the NRA's ire April 9 by opposing a bill that would order federal and state courts to immediately dismiss lawsuits against gun makers and gun sellers.

Paul always has defended Second Amendment protection for gun owners. However, he objected to Congress legislating against state rights. The bill carried, 285-140. Only three Republicans--Paul and two liberals--voted against it.

The gun lobby is split on Paul. While the NRA wants to challenge him, the Gun Owners of America are in full support.

"A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman added: 'This amnesty is designed to take guns off the streets and make the streets safer.' " ...

Apparently it hasn't been doing its job, and the report's headline is a lie. According to this story, gun crime is up despite the amnesty. This amnesty has not been shown to reduce crime in any way.

But it's always nice to know that the media is a willing accomplice in the disarmament and enslavement of British subjects.

More, this time from Dave Kopel, on Steve Levitt and the NAS gun study

"I'm not arguing (at least not in this post), that Levitt's statements are incorrect, and they are certainly not 'rabid.' But if a person selecting panelists for the NAS study were looking for panelists who might be expected to see benefits from reducing 'easy availability of guns,' it would have been reasonable to pick Levitt. There is nothing logically inconsistent with a scholar favoring gun control to address the very large problem of criminal homicide with guns, while also recognizing that the magnitude of the problem of fatal gun accidents involving children is not nearly as large as the media imply."

"The Truth About 'Assault Weapons' " is a new flash movie designed to take on the anti-gun lies against semi-automatic rifles and 'high-capacity' magazines. By illustrating what the 'Assault Weapon' ban is and how it effects law-abiding citizens while not effecting crime, gun owners and non-gun owners alike can see how the 'Assault Weapon' ban is a complete failure - but one that is a threat to our freedoms and is in danger of being renewed if we don't do something about it.
