An intense road rage incident, from April 7, 2026, which was captured on a local woman’s dashboard camera, has now raised questions about self-defense laws in Nevada.
Despite being armed with a gun, Rosemary Martin did not fire her weapon. But local attorney and owner of The Gersten Law Firm, Joseph Gersten, says Martin may have been well within her rights to do so.
“That is a situation where we are really on that line as to whether or not the woman could have used deadly force. If you are in reasonable fear of great bodily harm or death you would be able to stand your ground. Based on the video, had she stopped it appears that she would have been within her rights here in Nevada,” Gersten said. |

The family of the man who shot and killed a motorist during a road rage confrontation in Emmarentia on Sunday has broken their silence, saying he acted in self-defence to protect both his own life and that of his wife.
In a statement issued to IOL on Wednesday, the family acknowledged that a life had been lost but said they stood by the actions of their family member, whose identity they asked to be withheld.
"We wish to state at the outset that we are not insensitive to the fact that a life has been lost," the family said.
"A family has suffered an irreplaceable loss, and innocent children traumatised by the events are also now without a father. |

The federal rescheduling of marijuana announced by the Justice Department on Thursday doesn’t change how the Supreme Court should decide a pending case on cannabis consumers’ gun rights, the Trump administration said in a new filing.
The court heard arguments last month in the case, U.S. vs. Hemani, that was brought by a man who is challenging his conviction for unlawful possession of a gun as a person who regularly used marijuana—with several justices appearing skeptical of the federal government’s legal defense of a law banning people who use illegal drugs from having firearms. |

The District of Columbia Court of Appeals granted the District’s petition for rehearing en banc in Benson v. United States on April 22, 2026, vacating the court’s March 5, 2026 opinion and judgment in the case.
The per curiam order states that a majority of the judges voted to grant the petition filed by intervenor-appellee District of Columbia. The ruling wipes the March 5 decision off the books and restores the case for a full rehearing before the entire bench.
Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby and Associate Judges Beckwith, Easterly, McLeese, Deahl, Howard, and Shanker will hear the case as a full court. Oral argument will be scheduled as soon as the calendar permits. Each side will have up to 45 minutes of argument time. |

Two AK-style rifles, one AR-15, a few Glock pistols and two Uzi submachine guns - one small enough to fit in a backpack.
These were some of the 98 firearms collected by volunteers from faith congregations and the Oakland Police Department on Saturday in an effort to cultivate new uses for the weapons - as garden tools.
The Guns to Gardens buyback program encouraged community members to exchange firearms - no questions asked - for Target gift cards worth up to $300, as well as garden tools formed from previous exchanges. The weekend event, held in the parking lot of At Thy Word Ministries in East Oakland, marked the faith-based group's sixth iteration of the program. |

Some rifles make an impression. Others make a statement. The Big Horn Armory Model 89 Spikedriver in .500 S&W Magnum does both — emphatically.
Built in small numbers by Big Horn Armory, this is a true custom levergun with craftsmanship that stands out immediately. The example shown wears collector-grade walnut with a hand-rubbed oil finish, complemented by case-hardened accents and “Hunter Black” hardware. It’s classic styling, executed at a very high level. |

We Czeched out the newest CZ P-10C Ported 9mm handgun at the NRA Annual Meeting 2026 in Houston and got all the details, including a new training partnership with AceXR for virtual reality shooting practice.
We recently reviewed a P-10C Ported and found it to be a great buy and a superior performer. We've also tested and fallen in love with the Aimpoint COA closed-emitter red dot on other platforms. So, bumping into the CZ/COA combo in Texas last week was great news. |

Elmer Keith’s shooting exploits were legendary. While most students of Keith are true believers of his sixgun prowess, some consider him to be full of bull $hit. How could a man be so beloved, be the impetus of the Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 rifle, the .338 Winchester Magnum, as well as the .44 and .41 Magnum cartridges, to name a few, and still be considered full of horse hooey by some? |

A pistol ban passed by the Maryland House and Senate, and that is currently being considered by Democrat Gov. Wes Moore, has drawn the ire of the firearms industry trade association.
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the misguided legislation would unconstitutionally infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Marylanders by prohibiting an entire class of lawfully-made and lawfully-sold handguns, should it be signed into law. |

An Arizona trauma surgeon is headed to trial on felony charges that could put him behind bars for decades.
It all began late one summer night in 2022 when a man was looking around Kris Johnson’s front door. He went outside with his wife’s gun and saw flood lights from two vehicles blocking the entrance to his neighborhood and fired what he calls a warning shot in the air. He ended up shot in the back and facing prison time.
But, despite the court asking prosecutors to offer a plea deal to keep Johnson out of prison, top Maricopa County Attorney’s Office officials won’t offer anything less than five to 10 years in prison. And it’s all raising questions about Arizona’s self-defense laws and how they’re carried out. |

A couple of GOP lawmakers warned gun owners that the federal government is spying on them and Congress has "one week to get this right" in a Thursday op-ed for right-wing outlet Breitbart.
"Federal agencies are buying your personal data," Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Eric Burlison (R-MO) cautioned Second Amendment enthusiasts. "The data for sale includes your location history — every gun store, range, and sporting goods shop your phone went near. Your financial records — every ammo purchase."
The two Republican members of Congress wrote that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, will spy on gun owners through "queries" and under the guise of monitoring terrorist activity. |

A group of gunowners lack standing to seek an injunction against Colorado’s 2023 ban on the 3D printing of gun frames and receivers, a 10th Circuit panel has ruled.
Even so, those gunowners may seek relief against prohibitions on possessing and acquiring unserialized gun parts, the panel court said Thursday in a ruling that partially reversed a lower court. They also said the law “unambiguously” did not ban the practice of making guns from parts kits.
In 2023, Colorado lawmakers passed a law aimed at preventing unmarked homemade firearms or “ghost guns” from being used to commit crimes. |

The North Carolina Senate is eyeing a sweeping new gun bill that would sharply curb access for people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, bring in universal background checks for many firearm transfers, and revive the state’s old pistol-purchase permit system with a new twist for parents: an annual safe-storage signoff tied to the school year.
The package, carried by Sen. Woodson Bradley, has already cleared an initial Senate reading. Supporters say it is designed to plug enforcement holes that opened after lawmakers scrapped the permit law in 2023. |

Jamaica’s strict firearms regime is set for a significant rethink, with the government moving to soften penalties for imitation or replica guns under legislation that has drawn sustained criticism for treating fake weapons the same as real firearms.
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says amendments to the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act, 2022 will be tabled this year, opening the door for more discretion in sentencing—especially in cases involving children or the use of replica weapons in artistic, educational, or performance settings. |

A new bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives would give some military veterans and active-duty military members the ability to protect themselves from danger anywhere in the nation.
On April 20, Rep. Democratic candidates running to unseat Rep. Stauber took part in a candidate forum at UMD Thursday evening.
Seven candidates addressed several topics, including universal health care and restrictions on guns. Here’s what each had to say about gun reform:
“Firearms, guns, is an issue I’m going to hold a neutral position on,” Bob Helland said. “I’m a Boy Scout; I’ve become a father of children, so there are going to be considerable arguments on both sides.”
“If we want to take these guns out of people’s hands, how do you do it? You raise the prices,” Debra Topping said. |

Upset with the Trump Administration over what sometimes seems like only lip service to the Second Amendment, 33 U.S. House members have sent President Donald Trump a letter urging him to live up to his promise of restoring the Second Amendment and outlining what the next attorney general should do to win back gun owners’ support.
Led by Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Georgia, the Republican lawmakers called on Trump to take three specific actions: immediately cease enforcement of Biden-era gun rules and secure permanent—not temporary—relief, stop defending unconstitutional gun laws in court and rein in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and reform the agency’s culture. |

In the ongoing study of the effectiveness of handguns as a defense against bears, there are over 200 documented cases. Of those, 184 involve only handguns. The others are combination situations where other deadly force was used in addition to handguns. Of the 184 cases, 161 include information about the number of shots fired. In 23 cases, the number of shots is not known.
Ed.: Dean has been tracking this for a long time; this is his 4th update. Pretty much any common semi-auto handgun is effective for bear defense: the key is often how many shots are fired. |

TO REMEMBER |
| America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821) |
