A proposed federal law is seeking to force strong gun law states, including New York, to recognize conceal carry permits from other states. In New York, it's extremely difficult to get a permit to carry a gun in public for self-defense. However, in many other states, obtaining what's called a conceal carry gun permit can be relatively easy. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is aiming to level the playing field.

Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen wants to stop the General Assembly from enacting a law that would allow gun owners to carry their guns concealed or openly without having to get a permit, and he's enlisted area residents to help him get the job done. The department on Monday shared its official opposition for open carry of guns on social media and asked residents to call state senators and urge them to vote against it. An open-carry bill was approved by the S.C. House earlier this month.

Police confiscated 62 realistic-looking toy guns Monday from a Boardwalk store, which was violating a local ordinance meant to prevent the guns from being mistaken for firearms, police said. Officers patrolling the Boardwalk saw a sign in the Bags and Accessories store window advertising BB guns, police said. A 2014 ordinance prohibited the sale of imitation or toy guns. CMMG unveiled the new MkG45 Guard AR-15, a pistol-caliber carbine chambered in the big-bore .45 ACP cartridge. The new gun launched in five different models, feeds from Glock magazines and features the company's Radial Delayed Blowback system. "With the Guard, we set out to engineer an affordable, highly reliable AR chambered in .45 ACP that would use the widely-available Glock magazines," said Chris Reinkemeyer, CEO/CFO of CMMG. "In the early stages of design, we tested out a variety of different operating systems, including straight blowback and direct impingement, but none of those options gave us the reliability we were looking for. |

Georgia wildlife officials expect to soon be able to hire dozens of rangers and make other improvements to public sites across the state after Gov. Nathan Deal signed into law Tuesday the state’s first increase in hunting and fishing fees in 25 years. House Bill 208, sponsored by state Rep. Trey Rhodes, R-Greensboro, represents a big win for the state Department of Natural Resources, which has been working on the issue for the past two years after struggling to balance an increase in requests for better hunting and fishing experiences with stagnant license revenue. |

The right to bear arms is infringed. A right is a power you already have that you want the government to leave alone. Governments infringed our rights so badly that now tens of millions of us can’t get the required permits to bear arms. Politicians rationalize their regulation of self-defense by wrapping their restrictions in the cloak of public safety. In fact, that cloak has often been the white sheet of racism directed against minorities and the poor.
Sometimes the racism is blatant. Sometimes it is subtle. (900 more words) |
