"You gotta love gun control advocates. Even though not many do. Yesterday’s Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America rally in Indianapolis was another in the long, perhaps endless lines of damp squibs. Despite the group’s deep-pocketed benefactor’s political juice and financial largesse, MDA couldn’t assemble the promised anti-gun throng. Only about 50 Moms gathered a few blocks from the NRA convention to protest, well, the usual. I think 'evil gun lobby' was the theme. Whatever. MDA jefe Shannon Watts’ bodyguards were the headline attraction . . ." ..."

"The Evil Princess and I took a pleasant spring day walk from the NRA meeting at the convention center in Indianapolis to the Veterans Park, where the Bloomberg-financed Everytown crew was holding forth. How ironic that they would speak for diminution of gun owners’ civil rights in the shadow of a monument to those who died fighting for those rights…"

"We couldn’t help but notice the guys straight out of central casting, burly fellas with black suits, Oakley style black glasses, and most with obligatory shaven heads. One confirmed to me that they were 'private security,' and 'three or four' in number. Didn’t look quite like the 300 protesters they claimed. ..." ...

"I have been reading (and occasionally commenting on) TTAG for some time now. I read with interest one of your entries from Friday 4/25, 'How can the NRA become less white?' Or perhaps more generally (and more accurately), how can the NRA become more non-OFWG? I decided to address this in an email rather than a comment, mostly because this response is going to be fairly long, but also because the comments seem to be running along the lines of, 'Diversity? We don’t need no steenkin’ diversity!' . . ." ...

"The Chinese authorities have chosen a rather unusual firearm with which to arm their police forces, a revolver that shoots 9mm. The Wall Street Journal says that several readers contacted them with doubts about the accuracy of the story due to the unusual configuration ... but the WSJ says that the unusual design is purposeful. The move to beat cops carrying guns is a recent one, and the choice of a revolver is to minimize risks associated with introducing handguns into a society that has little experience with firearms. Also, they chose nonstandard ammunition so in the event a police weapon falls into the wrong hands, it will be more difficult to feed it. Chinese authorities are going to great lengths . . ." ..."

"'When I signed on as an advisor to Everytown, I looked forward to a thoughtful and provocative discussion about the toll gun violence takes on Americans,' Republican ex-PA Governor and Homeland Security secretary Tom Ridge told The Daily Caller. 'After consultation with Everytown, I have decided that I am uncomfortable with their expected electoral work. Therefore, we have decided that we will pursue this issue in our separate spheres.' The New York Times is buying that explanation hook, line and sinker; it makes Everytown seem hard-core and Republicans (who served under George Bush!) wimps. I call B.S. . . ." ..."

"This wasn’t actually going to become a TTAG post, but I was inspired by our IGOTD winner, Dallas Archer, who chose to conceal an NAA Mini-Revolver in a very private place ... Rewind one year — almost to the day — and a new company called Speakeasy Briefs is generating funding on Kickstarter for their boxer briefs with a hidden (assuming you’re wearing pants) pocket on the front. "He's somewhat mistaken, of course. The NRA doesn't have any state-mandated obligation to hold an annual meeting1. What's more, the NRA has very little respect for the law. A half an hour later, at that very meeting, NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre exhorted the crowd to a morally obligated vigilantism. "Other pro-Astorino contributions are expected from Second Amendment supporters and firearms-industry executives, who strongly opposed Cuomo’s anti-gun-ownership 'Safe Act,' as well as from well-heeled social conservatives outraged over the governor’s claim that 'extreme conservatives' have 'no place in New York.'" ...

"Would greater controls on gun ownership save lives or simply limit freedom? It is the debate that renews after every mass shooting in the US."

"In August 2012 six people were shot dead at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin by a white supremacist."

"Frustrated by the lack of action in Congress and what he deemed insufficient attention to the massacre by President Barack Obama, the son of one of the victims is running for Congress on a gun control platform." ...

Submitter's Note: As a Sikh he believes he must at all times carry a weapon, a ceremonial sword or dagger called a kirpan.
One wonders how he can reconcile this with a demand that others be disarmed.

"The only conclusion an honest pundit can reach after reading this letter to the editor is that Sen. Franken's re-election is in trouble:"
"'I find the silence from Minnesota Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken disturbing over the recent Federal Government abuse of power by the Bureau of Land Management over the farmer in Nevada.'"

"Franken, who has prided himself in calling for the ban of 'assault weapons' on our streets, stood by like a drunk as the BLM had almost 200 agents pointing assault weapons at normal citizens and the farmer, whose cattle were grazing on federal land (our land).'" ...

... "Mr. Santorum, 55 and the father of seven, remains unapologetic about his pro-life, pro-family, pro-faith beliefs and his traditional values; indeed, he acts on them. At the height of his 2012 presidential run, Mr. Santorum suddenly bolted from the campaign trail to be at the bedside of his young daughter, Bella, who suffers from a genetic disorder and had taken ill. He has not shied away from Second Amendment issues either."

"'A well-armed family is a safe family. A well-armed America is a safer America,' Mr. Santorum told CBS 'Face the Nation' Sunday." ...

"Last week, two days before Gov. Nathan Deal signed into law the gun bill that has brought our state so much national attention, his Democratic challenger appeared before a friendly MSNBC camera."

"After the inoffensive preliminaries, interviewer Chuck Todd raised a most delicate issue for state Sen. Jason Carter and his still-young campaign for governor."

"When HB 60 passed the General Assembly last month, Carter was one of only four Democratic lawmakers to support the measure – and the sole Democrat in the Senate to do so. So why did he vote for a measure that puts more concealed weaponry in bars, churches, schools and many – if not most – government buildings?" ...

"On April 18 and again on April 25, the U.S. Supreme Court met in private conference to consider the latest crop of cases seeking review. According to the Court's docket, both conferences included discussion of Drake v. Jerejian, a Second Amendment case centering on the constitutionality of New Jersey's Handgun Permit Law. On May 21, the Court announced the results of its April 18 conference. There was no word on Drake. Today the Court announced the results of its April 25 conference. Once again, silence on the Second Amendment. With no action taken, the case will now most likely be re-listed for another round of debate at the Court's next private conference ..."

"The Third Circuit's opinion revives Byron Halsey's lawsuit accusing two cops of violating his Constitutional rights by bullying him into saying he'd tortured and killed two small children. "I have been with a variety of weapons, guns, knives, missiles, hammers and screwdrivers, just to name a few, my entire life. "A better title for Rob Huffman's article in Sunday's Free Lance-Star should have been: 'My Liberal Ideology Trumps the U.S. Constitution.' Mr. Huffman's understanding of this country's founding document and the history surrounding that document is dubious at best."

"Put aside all his skewed statistics, hand-wringing emotional regurgitations and 'bile rising' in [his] throat and examine the Second Amendment's pivotal phrase: 'shall not be infringed.' In legal circles there is an oft-used phrase: 'Let the statute speak for itself.' One cannot misunderstand the founders' intent with those four words." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Thanks to the government’s past record, it is unfortunately very predictable that, in spite of the severe penalties mandated, tens of thousands of people will not comply at all (with Bill C-68). A new class of criminal will be created among harmless citizens whose previous lawbreaking may have resulted in nothing more than parking tickets. — Lee Morrison, Canadian Mounted Police
