Elk hunting is a dream hunt for many of us and I am lucky enough to have had the chance over and over throughout the years. If an elk hunt is on your list of must-do hunts, I have put together my thoughts on the gear you wont want to be without when you go. Of course, a good gun and the right ammo are always the right start, but theres other gear youll also want to have on hand.

On April 10, disgraced Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed five pieces of anti-gun legislation into law. Those measures criminalize the private sale of firearms, ration handgun sales to one a month, create a "red flag" gun confiscation scheme, punish property crime victims who fail to hastily report a firearm as stolen, and restrict how Virginia parents may store and introduce their children to firearms. Northam sent two pieces of anti-gun legislation back, including legislation that erodes the Right-to-Carry and the state firearms preemption statute, to the general assembly with governor's amendments. The General Assembly enacted both items of legislation on April 22.

There are few ideas in American life more naive and irrational than that of the gun-free zone. As ever, it is imperative to move past the euphemisms and the rhetoric that pervade the debate, and to ask the material question: For whom? More specifically, it is imperative to ask: Of whose guns are we to be free? As we have learned time and time again, the unhappy answer to this crucial question is: The people whom we want to have the guns when something goes seriously wrong.

Despite the fact that revolvers are among the most recommended carry guns for new and female shooters, they arent all great choices. Dont misunderstand me, Ive owned and carried revolvers for years. While six-shooters absolutely have their place in a shooters arsenal, theyve often employed wrong. This isnt to say that theyre a bad choice when shoe-horned into roles they werent built for, but more so that a combination of factors have caused some of their most shining moments to eclipse. Paramount among these is the .38 special snub-nosed revolver. Compact, reliable and fool-proof, the .38 wheel-gun should be the perfect concealed carry option for new shooters but it's not.

The Supreme Court sidestepped its first significant Second Amendment case in a decade, dismissing on technical grounds a challenge to New York Citys now-defunct ban on residents transporting their licensed guns outside the city. New York City abandoned its contested restrictions, which made it unlawful to transport a gun even to a second home or shooting range outside the city, after the Supreme Court took up the case in January 2019. The decision said New York's decision to abandon the regulation gave the plaintiffs everything they were seeking in court, leaving nothing for the justices to resolve.

One of the more pernicious attacks on our Second Amendment rights is legislation that doesnt necessarily restrict rights so much as eases the road to getting restrictions later. There have been two approaches to this. One is the use of resolutions like S Res 110, which is intended to foreclose the possibility of Second Amendment-friendly (or at least non-hostile) solutions to problems like school shootings. H Res 702 takes a different approach: It ties attacking our rights as a form of justice.

Americans across the country are grappling with the new normal of COVID-19-related closures and the novel ways that anti-gun politicians capitalize on the pandemic to prevent the exercise of Second Amendment rights. For residents of the nations capital, though, the new normal is pretty much the same as the old normal, where local politicians treat lawful gun businesses with the same enthusiasm they have for the coronavirus.

It was at night. The officer at the door was in plain clothes at the time, had no warrant, and was developing a case of solicitation for prostitution on DeRossett's niece, Mary Ellis. The other two officers were in plain clothes and hid in the dark outside the house. The officers attempted to take Mary Ellis into custody, at DeRossett's home. The officers never identified themselves to DeRossett.

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee is lifting some restrictions from the states stay-at-home-order starting May 5. He announced Monday that he will be allowing hunting, fishing and golfing. He is allowing day use of state parks, day use of state lands and day use of fish and wildlife areas. This is not a return to normal today. The virus is too rampant to allow that. This is only the beginning of a phase to allow outdoor recreation, he said.
