"Last July, with Illinois poised to legalize medical marijuana (albeit just barely legalize it, under the most restrictive legal cannabis policy in the country), it seemed more than logical to assume that the intersection of the state's new, restrictive marijuana law and its historically very restrictive gun laws would be a ban on anyone benefiting from both the most effective means of self-defense and the therapeutic effects of marijuana. And indeed, in January, the Illinois Department of Public Health proposed a new system of rules that would do precisely that, and more. From the proposal:" ... |

"We’re friends with a lot of people who, just like us, test new firearms. And the view among those who we trust and know to be credible is that Remington’s new R51 has been a disaster. What we’re hearing now from those with knowledge of the situation is that buyers who have returned their R51s to Remington for repair, hoping that Big Green can fix them aren’t getting much satisfaction. After repeated calls to Remington asking when their guns will be repaired, Remington has reportedly stated that there currently is no time frame because . . ." ... |

"When Michael Bloomberg launched Everytown for Gun Safety, the former NYC Mayor touted his gun control group as a 'grassroots' anti-NRA org. The irony of that debut – unveiling a [supposedly] populist anti-gun movement financed by a single $50 million cash donation – was lost on the mainstream media. But TTAG readers responded with keen insight, posting comments that basically proclaimed 'I don’t think the word 'grassroots' means what former Michael Bloomberg thinks it means. Or wants it to mean.' Here’s more proof, if proof be needed, that Mayor Mike’s grassroots anti-gun group is actually a lush crop of freshly extruded Astroturf . . ." ... |

"Everyone knows at this point that Massachusetts’ gun laws are some of the strictest in the country, so that makes it that much more surprising to find out that almost half of the illegal guns seized and traced last year in Boston came back to Massachusetts as their point of origin. 509 handguns (not pictured) were seized in 2013 in Boston, some used in homicides or other crimes, and some simply possessed illegaly. 326 of those were traced to their original point of retail sale, and 46% of that number were originally purchased legally in Massachusetts. Even more interesting, despite the strengthening of MA’s already strict gun laws over the last 18 months, that 46% number is much higher than back in 2005 & 2006 when gun laws were weaker . . ." ... |
