HB277 "Personal Protection Act" (Rep. Russel's CCW bill) is being held hostage by Speaker Ben Lujan. The bill was passed by both the House & Senate, but before it reaches the Governor's desk, Speaker Lujan must sign it. It appears that Lujan is going to keep the bill in his office until after the deadline, April 6. Any legislation not signed by the Governor at that time is pocket-vetoed. Redkey Officer Suspended After Children Find His Gun

A Redkey police officer has been suspended for losing a loaded gun that two children later found. The weapon fell out of Josh Beeson's police car earlier this month. Two boys ages 12 and 13 found the gun. The boys took the gun to a nearby restaurant that they knew was owned by a police officer and turned it in. The boys were commended for doing the right thing. The town council suspended the officer for one day without pay. A letter of reprimand will also be placed in his file.
