When an aide to Sen. James Webb, D-Va., was arrested in the Capitol for possession of his boss' loaded handgun and two extra clips, it wasn't the first time a Democratic senator found himself caught violating the anti-gun laws of the District of Columbia.
There's an amazing story about Sen. Ted Kennedy in a similar predicament two decades ago. |

How to interpret the Second Amendment - a question raised anew by the March 9 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which many believe may prompt a High Court review - is a subset of how to interpret any provision of the Constitution. Happily, one of the Federalist Founders, Alexander Hamilton, provided a very handy guide:... |

It always was understood by everyone but excitable gun-rights advocates that the so-called "conceal-carry" law relaxing permit regulations for concealed weapons was a solution in search of a problem -- a great way for the National Rifle Association to plump both its membership list and its treasury but of limited impact, mostly negative, on day-to-day life in Minnesota. |

The Edwards County Deputy Sheriff fired in self defense when an alien smuggling vehicle tried to run him down in 2005 after he stopped it around midnight for running a red light. When the deputy, Guillermo Hernandez, approached the vehicle on foot, he spotted at least eight people lying down inside. He fired at the rear tires as the vehicle sped away after trying to run over him.
Ed.: Shooting at a fleeing vehicle isn't self defense. |

A Michigan City Police officer used self-defense to fend off a Michigan City man who reportedly attacked him inside his police car early Saturday morning.
Ed.: This is really off-topic, but I'm going to abuse my position just a wee bit, as this is an interesting little story, in my opinion. |

The new Bill will amend the criminal and the civil law in relation to the use of justifiable force by occupiers of domestic dwellings against trespassers entering with criminal intent. It will remove the requirement on occupiers to retreat in the face of a criminal trespasser before using force. |

AUSTIN — Country singer Billy Joe Shaver shot and wounded a man in self-defense outside a Texas bar and is cooperating with police, his attorney said Monday.
After Shaver left a bar in Lorena on Saturday night, a drunk, aggressive stranger with a knife followed him into the parking lot, said Shaver's attorney, Joseph A. Turner of Austin. Shaver shot him in self-defense, Turner said, declining to elaborate or say whether anything occurred inside the bar. |

Here’s an issue on which everybody is more wrong than right, including me.
I try not to think too hard about gun control, because when I head down that road I always end up somewhere I didn’t really want to go. My starting point is that I’m in favor of sanity and opposed to needless bloodshed, so having tough laws to restrict the availability of firearms — especially handguns — should be a no-brainer. |

A new nationwide poll shows strong support for gun owners by rank-and-file police officers, which means you'll never hear about it in the mainstream media. Police Magazine surveyed more than one thousand officers on various Second Amendment issues, and the results are a slam-dunk for gun owners. Eighty-eight percent said more gun control won't make people any safer. More than 60 percent of officers said they own more than four firearms for their personal use. Officers were also asked if they would take part in a gun confiscation in the case of a gun ban. The good news is that two-thirds of officers surveyed said they wouldn't confiscate guns that had been banned. The bad news is that a third of officers said they would.

Kimberly Shrum grips a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and aims at a target 25 yards away. A hot shell casing hits the floor, joining hundreds of others littering the concrete at Jackson Arms Indoor Shooting Range in South San Francisco. Shrum centers herself and aims again. The city's police superintendent said Monday he was stepping down as head of the beleaguered department, but he would not say what role two videotaped beatings involving off-duty officers had in his decision. Last month, prosecutors filed felony charges against an officer accused of beating a female bartender. Six other officers were removed from street duty after being accused of assaulting four businessmen in a bar. Superintendent Philip J. Cline took over in November 2003 and had been expected to retire later this year. On Monday, he referred to the highly publicized incidents only as 'these times of challenge.'

Where is the pro-gun grassroots exposure with the Red’s / ATF issue? Stop and think about this issue for a minute… This is a modern day David & Goliath story! A small, family owned gun shop is taking on the ATF. They are not only fighting for their survival, but for the survival of all FFL dealers. They refuse to roll over and give up like so many other shops were forced to. They want to prevent this from happening to other dealers. Red’s wants more than to win their case, they want reform within the ATF.

Who says the Florida Legislature doesn't look out for the working stiff? A bill (SB 2356) that so far is breezing through the Senate would stop employers from banning guns in their parking lots. Imagine the persuasive power of a worker (particularly if he is disgruntled) mentioning that his AK-47 is only a few steps away when asking for - no, demanding! - a raise. |

Lawmakers took shots at each other Saturday over a proposed gun-rights bill, the day after it was tabled by a committee Democrats control. 'I'm disappointed,' Rep. Jack Wells, R-Bozeman, said in an interview. 'The Democrats ... apparently don't support gun rights.' When told of Wells' remarks, Sen. Larry Jent, D-Bozeman, fired back that Wells was 'anti-law enforcement' and 'does not represent the interest of the safe community.' Jent said the bill was a bad idea proposed by a 'crazy fringe outfit.' 'I'm tired of a bunch of wingnuts from the Montana Shooting Sports Association thinking they dictate public policy in this state,' Jent said. 'And Republicans ought to stand up to the MSSA.' |

SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- A University of Washington researcher was shot to death in her office Monday morning by a former boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself, police said.
Officers found the two dead in an office on the fourth floor of Gould Hall, the university's architecture building, Assistant University Police Chief Ray Wittmier said.
The 26-year-old woman was granted a restraining order last month against Jonathan Rowan, according to court documents.
About six shots were fired, and a handgun was found in the room. There were no eyewitnesses, and no one else was harmed, Wittmier said.
How could this happen in a Gun Free Zone? Don't restraining orders come with protective 'force fields?'

When two policemen turned up unannounced at Alan Rawlinson's home asking to speak to his young son, the company director feared something serious had happened.
So he was astounded when the officers detailed 11-year-old George's apparent crime - calling one of his schoolfriends 'gay'. *-*-*-* They only sent four officers? I'd a-thought it'd take at least a dozen or more armed with spikes and pikes to subdue an 11 year old that spoke hideously out of turn!
Ed. Note: The article body states two officers not four, and they use "tackle" to mean "take care of". Wish the English would speak English. :-) |

Bernadette Headd says she doesn't regret taking out her 9mm handgun and firing it during a freeway run-in with another driver.
It was self-defense, not road rage, she said.
In an interview Thursday with the Free Press, Headd said she was overcome by fear when she flashed her handgun to try to scare off a driver she thought was trying to run her off I-94 last month. Then she said she fired the gun out of the window of her 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier to get that driver to back off. |
