Attorney General Lynn Fitch joined a coalition of 22 states urging the Ninth Circuit to uphold the Second Amendment and once again declare California’s law limiting magazine capacity as unconstitutional.

“This California law oversteps Constitutional boundaries and threatens the rights of law-abiding gunowners,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “My colleagues and I ask the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the decisions of the district court and smaller appeals court panel, protecting the Second Amendment right to bear arms.”

Since ammunition is expensive right now and likely to stay that way for a while, one of the other things we can do to keep our minds engaged is read books. I know in the age of the internet and YouTube videos and character limits on Twitter, reading books isn’t really a thing people do anymore. At least, most people. If you do read books, or if you would rather spend that $30 slated for your next box of 9mm on something else, Mas Ayoob’s Straight Talk on Armed Defense should be jockeying for your ammo money.

Austin Daniel Rozdilski, 19, initially was charged with murder in the death of Dre’yon “Biggs” Browley and malicious wounding of Justin “JB” Barnett in May 2019, along with two firearms charges. The jury in his case returned one conviction at the close of his December 2020 trial — a downgraded charge of unlawful wounding.

New evidence that emerged during the summer backed defense arguments that Barnett was armed at the time of the incident, his attorney, Joseph Sanzone, argued Wednesday, lending credence to claims Rozdilski acted in self-defense and Barnett might have perjured himself on the stand.

On Thursday, by a 6-3 vote, the Texas House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety voted out House Bill 1911, by Rep. James White (R-Woodville), and House Bill 1927, by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), NRA-backed permitless carry proposals that would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a handgun without a state-issued License To Carry (LTC). It's time for Texas to join the 20 other states that have legalized this personal protection option!

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) today applauded Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds for signing House File 756, NRA-backed legislation that allows law-abiding adults to carry a concealed firearm without first asking the government’s permission for a permit.

“This law is a common sense measure that allows law-abiding citizens to exercise their fundamental right of self-defense in the manner that best suits their needs,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Jason Ouimet. “The NRA fights for these rights because we recognize that our freedoms are fundamental and natural, not government-given.”

What is particularly notable about gun sales since 2020 is the changing demographics of the buyers. Whereas increases in gun sales in 2016 and 2017 occurred primarily among existing owners, sales to new owners, primarily African Americans and women, accounted for nearly 40 percent of firearm sales through the first quarter of 2020, up from 24 percent in previous years.

According to Mark Oliva, director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, gun sales among African Americans increased a whopping 58 percent through September. “We have never seen a year-over-year increase that large in African-American gun buyers,” said Oliva in an interview. “It’s the largest demographic increase we’ve seen.”

On March 24th, 2021, the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals reversed an earlier ruling and upheld the effective ban on the open carry of firearms in the state of Hawaii. Coming in the wake of multiple high-profile mass shootings around the country, the case of Young v. Hawaii is likely to be a contentious development in the ongoing gun debate. To briefly recap, back in 2011, George Young, a resident of Hawaii County, unsuccessfully applied for a carry permit twice citing a need for self-defense. Young filed suit, arguing that Hawaii’s law was inconsistent with the Second Amendment.

On Monday, April 5, the Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Committee will hold a public hearing on LD 1015, which bans the use of traditional lead ammunition when hunting. Please contact your State Representative and ask them to OPPOSE LD 1015.

Legislative Document 1015 prohibits the use of lead ammunition when hunting. The use of lead ammunition is under attack by anti-hunting and anti-gun extremists who ignore science and misinform policy makers and the public on the effects of extremely small amounts of lead.

The conservative argument against guns

To gain traction with absolutists — especially those in Congress who continually bring the argument back to the sacred inviolability of the Second Amendment — we need to reshape the rhetoric. We need to amplify the words of conservative legal scholars who have unequivocally declared limits on the Second Amendment.

Those scholars include the late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative icon. Even as Scalia affirmed the individual right to gun ownership in the landmark 2008 Heller case, he asserted that the Second Amendment is “not unlimited.”

Yesterday, the Mississippi Legislature dropped the final gavel for the 2021 Legislative session, adjourning for the year. This year saw multiple pro-gun and pro-hunting measures introduced to protect our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage. Unfortunately, both Senate Bill 2107 and House Bill 1231 were unable to make it out of conference committee just before the finish line.

Senate Bill 2107 Sought to enhance Mississippi’s preemption law by adding state agencies to the list of entities that are prohibited from restricting the Second Amendment rights of Mississippi citizens.

The state House of Representatives have passed Senate Bill 5038, legislature to prohibit open carry weapons at both the State capitol and public demonstrations. The bill passed out of the House, 57 to 40 and stirred debate about the second amendment amongst legislators.

“I think a number of us feel it is clearly unconstitutional, but there is a real definite push,” said Representative Keith Goehner. “It also precludes people that are gun rights activists. They come to the Capitol fully displaying weapons. That would preclude them from having that second amendment demonstration.”

Tyranny can only be prevented by an armed population

Most items in the Constitution’s original Bill of Rights – especially freedom of speech, press and exercise of religion -- have been the subject of many clarifying cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Remarkably, the right of the people to keep and bear arms has not received the same expansive judicial scrutiny.

The reason is simple – the Second Amendment has historically been considered by lawmakers and the public to be clear and unassailable: citizens individually have the right to own and use firearms for self-defense, and they have a collective obligation to be proficient in their use as a bulwark against invasion, insurrection and tyranny.

It is a little after lunchtime on a weekday. You hear banging at your front door. You recognize a voice outside so you keep your door locked. You present your firearm and retreat toward the back of your house. You call 911 and say you have an attacker beating on your front door. Police arrive and your attacker runs to the back of the house before the police arrest him.

Your attacker was beating against your front door with a two inch square metal pipe. You have a restraining order against your attacker, so the police could take him to jail. The police did not list your name in their public report, but they did mention your restraint in not shooting your attacker.

Sure, there were lots of rehashed memes that always circulate on social media on April Fool's Day, such as HK finally making a commercial MP7, Glock making an M1911, and the HK GP11 "Kraut Space Gun" actually entering production – all of which you can hold your breath on.

The Nez Perce County Commission will consider a Second Amendment sanctuary proclamation Monday similar to those passed or being considered by local governments around Idaho.

Commission Chairman Douglas Havens said the idea was first raised a few weeks ago by fellow Commissioner Douglas Zenner, who could not immediately be reached for comment. County Prosecutor Justin Coleman has been working with the commissioners on a draft of the proclamation, which basically reasserts the right to bear arms included in the Bill of Rights and pledges that no county resources will be used to enforce any new federal restrictions on gun ownership, Havens said.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, in an en banc panel, has found there is no “Right to Bear Arms” in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. The majority opinion was written by Judge Bybee.

The case is the long-delayed Young v. State of Hawaii. It will undoubtedly be appealed to the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS). Whether SCOTUS will grant a writ of Certiorari is unknown at this time. SCOTUS has refused to grant a hearing to nearly all Second Amendment cases for over a decade.

On 15 June, of 2020, SCOTUS refused to hear ten pending Second Amendment cases.

We often wonder what politicians think about us voters, but with Governor Bill Lee we now know the answer: he doesn’t care..

Otherwise, he would not inject the threat of gun violence into all of our daily lives with his permitless handgun carry law.

His gubernatorial legacy is now clear: none of us are safe anywhere.

Well, except for him.

Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor and 15 other governors filed a friend of court brief against the State of New York for its attempt to shut down the National Rifle Association. The AGs called it an abuse of power.

New York attorney general Letitia James is abusing the power of her office in her targeting of the gun-rights group and attempts to prosecute the group in New York.

“The statements made by the New York AG are nothing short of startling,” the attorneys general wrote. “The New York AG’s promise to ‘take down the NRA’ if elected, coupled with her description of the NRA’s advocacy as ‘poisonous’ and ‘deadly propaganda,’ makes it clear that the NRA’s message is the impetus for the New York AG’s dissolution request.”

If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government — and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws. — EDWARD ABBEY
